Just Passing Through...

Who: The Interceptors… And You!!!
Broadcast: Yes -- ONLY over the private, non-Atroma network!
Action: Planetside
When: Network contact is RIGHT NOW, any planetside action begins ICly 2 days later at least.

[ Well, Fleet, long time no speak -- when it comes to addressing anyone, anyway. ♥ On the exclusive network, safely away from Atroma, an audio message appears, from your faraway pals! And on the other line is the very obvious voice of one particular Interceptor super scientist lady. ]

Drift Fleet Twelve, this is the Interceptor fleet. Based off our own trajectory, we're predicting that you guys are in the RR-0451 Aquilae system and - more importantly - near Libuscha IV. Can you confirm? A crewmate and I are in a shuttle right now, and we've got some... digging we'd like to do there.

[ There’s a new voice, one that Drift Fleet Twelve hasn’t heard before, in the background. And he sounds amused? ]

That’s one way of putting it… [ Can you just see the smirk now? The scientist continues as if there’d been no interruption.]

I'm attaching a file with some notes we've taken on a particular metal alloy that's naturally occurring and very abundant on that planet. It's apparently not that hard to find once you get far enough below the surface, and we have intel that there are vast cave networks. Have any of you guys seen those by chance?

And, uh… before we leave, we're probably gonna need to refuel while we're at it.

I told you we should have gotten gas before we hit the road, but did you listen to me? Nooooo...

Anyway! Since we'd be in the neighborhood - literally - we thought it might be a good chance to swing by and say hello, maybe share some stories, exchange some presents… [ Hey, someone mentioned ribbons to them - and they're happy to share this metal alloy, so… win/win? ] Discreetly, of course. What would Big Brother think if he knew, after all?

(( You can directly respond to this post if you wish to speak with the Interceptors over this newfangled secure network you created!! If you have a preference as to who responds, let us know somewhere in the comment or subject line.

If you wish to join them planetside to scour the caves for metals, help them restock and refuel, or just to try asking them some questions, each will have their own toplevel comment soon. And if for any reason you want to use this post for mingle purposes amongst yourselves, feel free to do so! ))

[Tim has heard the transmission via the ship's network; apparently it was new and the only way to hide from those who had taken them so he was instantly interested but all set to sit back and follow the current 'contestants'? leads. That was until when on his first trip off the ship he heard a voice that he swears he also heard on in the background of the transmission. He may be wrong but after tailing the fellow teenager he decides to take a risk.

Force of habit means he's silent as he slides up behind Duo.]

Are you here for the dig? or perhaps to refuel and share some stories.

[He refers back to the words of the transmission.]
divine_braid: (Heh Heh Heh)

[personal profile] divine_braid 2018-12-09 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Okay... props to this guy. It was hard to sneak up on Duo, and, to his credit, he didn't outright flail in response, but he definitely looked surprised.

He smirked at the question, though.]

Oh, definitely. I heard there's some interesting stuff down in those caves. [He crossed his arms, amused look on his face.] Refueling's important, though. It's tough when your partner insists you have enough gas, and then suddenly you don't.

[So, yeah... definitely the voice Tim heard.]

[personal profile] permanentlyexhaustedbird 2018-12-09 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Tim smirks, he doesn't always sneak up on purpose but he will admit it's always a little amusing when pulls it off, even after all these years.]

I will admit, I'm new so refuelling hasn't exactly come up yet but I can't imagine it's a good habit to acquire when the alternative is being stuck in space. It's not exactly comparable to a car running out.

I'm Robin by the way.
divine_braid: (Ahahahaha Yeah Sure)

[personal profile] divine_braid 2018-12-09 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Nah... I think, in this case, that's just my ship.

[Duo smiled... a very knowing smile.]

I'm Duo. [He held out his hand in greeting.]

So, when'd you get here?
permanentlyexhaustedbird: (confusedbird)

[personal profile] permanentlyexhaustedbird 2018-12-09 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Tim shakes Duo's hand]

A few days ago, I was stuck for a little while on the big ship. The Marsiva? It was very.. boring to put it lightly.

How long have you been in space? Your ship doesn't appear to be part of the usual fleet. How does that work?

[God he's full of questions.]
divine_braid: (Secret Smile)

[personal profile] divine_braid 2018-12-09 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it can be. Not the biggest place to explore...

[Duo shook his head a bit.]

I was born in space, but, if you're referring to this space, specifically, I've been here a while. Longer than anyone currently in the Fleet.

I'm not from Drift Fleet... at least, not in the sense you guys are. [He looked around for a second, and then nodded to one side, indicating a small café with booth seating.] Why don't we grab a bite to eat? [It would get them off the street.]
permanentlyexhaustedbird: (readingbird)

[personal profile] permanentlyexhaustedbird 2018-12-09 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Tim nods and heads towards the small cafe and finds them a seat where he can sit facing an entrance. He waits until they've both ordered before continuing.]

So you're not from Drift Fleet but you run with a crew that sometimes runs into them?
divine_braid: (Pensive)

[personal profile] divine_braid 2018-12-11 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Something like that.

[Duo settled down, though he was no less aware of his surroundings. If "Robin" hadn't taken the wall seat first, he certainly would have. Instead, he sat somewhat sideways to the table for now.

As he started, his voice lowered in volume, and his demeanor shifted to something much more serious than the casual laidback attitude he had on first meeting.]

We're part of a group called the Interceptors. We've been trying to help you guys get free of the Atroma, but without the problems we had during our attempt. We were successful, relatively speaking, but not without some major losses.
permanentlyexhaustedbird: (chattybird)

[personal profile] permanentlyexhaustedbird 2018-12-12 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Tim talks at a quiet but conversational level, keeping his expression like they're just having a casual conversation]

How did you go about doing that anyway? How does this show even end?
divine_braid: (Huh?)

[personal profile] divine_braid 2018-12-12 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It didn't... for us anyway.

[Duo frowned a little, but then waited because he'd spotted an approaching waitress. He ordered whatever the equivalent was on this ice ball of a planet for coffee, and then they waited for Tim. The waitress left after Tim either ordered or said he didn't want anything.]

As far as us? It wasn't easy. We've been poking at other ideas since, hoping to find something better for you guys to use. Sometimes, certain nebulas can interfere with the signals Atroma's using, but... [He shrugged.] It causes a lot of problems. We've had heavy losses.
permanentlyexhaustedbird: (businessbird)

[personal profile] permanentlyexhaustedbird 2018-12-13 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Tim will ask for the same. Or as he puts it 'whatever has the most caffeine in it' and something that looks like a muffin which when it arrives he just starts to pull apart.]

I'm sorry for your losses. I can understand not wanting to repeat that experience especially since the fleet doesn't appear to be in immediate danger. Although someone did mention cannibals and pirates.
divine_braid: (Srs Bsns)

[personal profile] divine_braid 2018-12-17 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but those were things you ran into through the travels. It's not something Atroma throws at you. Atroma doesn't seem to be out to harm anyone specifically... but, kidnapping people for entertainment is pretty sucky all around. My guess is that they ran out of willing participants for their little game here, so they salvaged it by forcing people to be in it.

There's still a lot we don't know, though. A lot they've managed to keep secret.

[Duo dumped a load of this planet's equivalent sugar and half-and-half into his drink before even attempting to see if it was too hot, yet. A little... so he'd wait a few more minutes before really drinking it.]
permanentlyexhaustedbird: (businessbird)

[personal profile] permanentlyexhaustedbird 2018-12-17 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Tim drinks his coffee black and steaming hot. There is a content noise at finally getting some though]

I suppose not actively wishing us harm is better than the opposite. I wonder why they kidnap though; even a cursory glance at television programming on my world would prove that they'd get hundreds of willing participants if they asked.

I suppose I'll have to keep up some information gathering from the inside then. Is the new network a safe way to contact your ship for verification and information exchange?

Tell me about this metal alloy we're going digging for then?
divine_braid: (Relaxed Smile)

[personal profile] divine_braid 2018-12-17 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
It's pretty useful, actually... for a few reasons. It's durable, so it makes great armor plating on spaceships. And, there's a chance that it'll react to magic, but we haven't been able to confirm that one, yet. So, we're in the process of rebuilding a few things ourselves, and looking to upgrade our ships in the process. We figured this was a good place to get some of that metal for that purpose.
permanentlyexhaustedbird: (bikebird)

[personal profile] permanentlyexhaustedbird 2018-12-17 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
How flexible in use is it? You said it can be used on the ships but how small can you go? and react to magic can go in so many directions? cancel it out? absorb it? have magic imbued in it? or even just detect it.
divine_braid: (Some Srs Discussion)

[personal profile] divine_braid 2018-12-17 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That's one of the things we're hoping to find out once we get our hands on it. So far, all we know are rumors and heresay. We're going to be testing it before we do anything serious with it.

[The sciency types in their little rebel Fleet liked to do that.]

[personal profile] permanentlyexhaustedbird 2018-12-18 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I have a bad habit of wanting all the information as quickly as possible. Sometimes I don't stop to consider how it sounds.

Will we be able to take some back to the main fleet? I'd be interested in seeing what we can get from it.
Edited 2018-12-18 05:21 (UTC)
divine_braid: (Ooohh...?)

[personal profile] divine_braid 2018-12-18 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see why not. Share and share alike, right? We came here asking for you guys to help us get it, so it's only fair we let you take some of it for yourselves. Besides, if it turns out to be useful enough, it could help both our fleets against Atroma.

[Duo finished off his coffee.]

So, you up for helping dig?
permanentlyexhaustedbird: (Default)

[personal profile] permanentlyexhaustedbird 2018-12-19 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Would you like another?

[Tim will call back the waitress and order another for both of them]

And yes I'll be there for the dig, if you'll allow it.
divine_braid: (Content Smile)

[personal profile] divine_braid 2018-12-21 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll grab one to go.

[Duo gave the waitress a nod of thanks.]

Of course. It's just me and the Mrs Doctor, so we'll some help if we want to keep our stay short. Don't need Atroma tracking us down, you know?
permanentlyexhaustedbird: (strawbird)

[personal profile] permanentlyexhaustedbird 2018-12-23 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Well you can definitely count me in if only to sate my own curiosity about this alloy. I suppose you'll be in contact with details?
divine_braid: (Wave)

[personal profile] divine_braid 2018-12-24 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Duo nodded, giving "Robin" a casual salute.]

You can count on it.

[He got up, putting down a few credits to cover his part of the bill.]

I'll see you around.
