▹▹ ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS

[ Jim hasn't been in the fleet long, and hasn't really gotten to know a whole lot of people, but still, he jumps at the idea of gift giving. Even if he only gets presents for a handful of people, it'll still be worth it. And of course, this is the first year he celebrates Winter or any sort of Christmas-like season with Victor, so that asks for something a little more special too.

Dressed in winter gear from head to toe (including a beanie, gloves and a thick scarf), Jim strolls through the streets, carrying a few more bags as the day goes on. He's easily lured closer to some of the street stands, and he takes a break every so often for a tasty snack or a hot drink. Otherwise he can be found in a variety of stores, possibly looking like he's having an internal struggle about two different presents for someone, or maybe struggling with the bags he's carrying when it draws nearer the end of the day and he's carrying far too many presents. Oops. ]

▹▹ LET IT SNOW

[ Winter is definitely not Jim's season. He likes warmer and sunnier weather for sure, but still, he doesn't get really grumpy about it, and the novelty of snow holds at least some charm.

At some point he decides to indulge, because why not? He'll be strolling straight through the snow, feet sinking into the deeper parts, grinning and chuckling even though he's probably getting soaked all the way up to his knees. He'll also try to build a snowman, though that proves to be far more complicated than it looks in movies and TV shows. He keeps trying, but for the life of him he can't figure out how to get the snow into a round shape, and he groans when his latest attempt just falls apart and turns into a pile of snow instead. ] Oh, come on! How can this be so hard?

▹▹ BABY, IT'S COLD OUTSIDE

[ Exploration and hiking will always hold a special place in Jim's heart. Maybe not so much on this planet, simply because of the temperatures, but he does have a very specific destination in mind: the hot springs.

The walk is a little long but absolutely worth it, Jim decides as soon as his eyes land on the surface of the glowing water. Grinning already, he strips down and hops into the water quickly, where the scars of stab wounds on his stomach are well hidden, and the bite mark going around his arm, shoulder and chest only show partially.

He sighs in relief and absolute delight, his whole body relaxing as he leans back, head resting against the edge, eyes closed. He can already feel his muscles unwind, a well-deserved rest after that walk. ] Now, this is the stuff.

[ The scars right now are a dead giveaway, unfortunately they're usually covered. But he is wearing a blue bracelet and an engagement ring, both of which he never takes off. Those are a little more difficult to notice, but they're easier to spot when one's looking for them. ]

Pleasure to meet you, Shin-Ah.

[ He reaches out, wiggling a finger at the squirrel. ] What about your buddy there? Is he friendly?

[He could have been looking but he's still getting to know the both of them to see the differences. For now, he settles for nodding. Hi. It's nice to meet you too.

Ao sees she's being played with (at least she thinks so) and she chirps before grabbing onto his fingers like she plans to swing from them.]

Ao just wants to be friends.

[ Jim's a little surprised when the squirrel reaches out to grab his fingers, but there's no biting or scratching, so he takes that as a good sign. He laughs softly, fingers wiggling slightly, trying to pet her head with his thumb. ]

Is that so? Well, good, because I love making friends too.

P-kyuuu!

[Grabbing him, she flips herself onto his hand before jumping to his shoulder. Where she baps his cheek because apparently she's decided she likes him.]

Ao likes you.

[ Jim looks absolutely delighted by all this. Smile wide and eyes bright, he chuckles as he tries to tilt his head and get a better look at the squirrel poking at his cheek. ]

Think it's safe to say I've just made a new friend.

[She makes some more chirping noises before settling in to just sit on his shoulder. She lives here for now.]

Mm. If you don't mind.

[He doesn't seem to but you know it's better to check.]

[ Jim settles back against the rock, happy to let Ao sit on his shoulder for as long as she wants. ]

Of course not. I love making new friends, it's one of the things I love the most about my job.

[ Well, that and getting to have a really cool ship. ]

Your job?

[Suddenly he's putting his knees up and wrapping his arms around them, looking so eager to hear stories. At least he thinks he might get to hear stories. Having a job isn't something he's that familiar with honestly but it seems other worlds have so many things he hasn't heard of before. Shin-Ah's been slowly learning that he wants to hear all about them.

It probably comes from having lived so many years alone in a cave. Now he wants to learn all about everything beyond it.]

[ If Shin-Ah has been on the Fleet for any relevant amount of time, then maybe Jim's job won't be so unheard of to him. After all, every ship on the Fleet has a Captain, though from what he's been able to tell so far, their duties are somewhat different from what Jim did. ]

I was the Captain of a starship. Bigger crew, though, around a thousand officers on board. We explored the galaxy, visiting new planets, meeting new people, making friends.

[Those jewel like eyes of his widen at the mention of a thousand officers. He's not sure how many that is other than a lot. And from the way he describes it, it sounds...amazing. Bigger than what they do here but similar at the same time.]

Like things we do here. But big.

[It's...amazing.]

[ Jim lets out a soft chuckle at the way Shin-Ah tries to make sense of his words. There are a lot of differences between this place and his own universe, of course, but there's no need at all to get too much into the details, so. ]

Yeah. Exactly like things we do here. And of course, we weren't always trying to find our way home, and there was no silly TV show going on or anything.

Mm.

[He looks down, lost in thought for a moment. When he does speak, his voice is as quiet as ever. No matter how you look at it, this young man is just a gentle soul.]

I lived in darkness, deep in the caves of my village for a long time. There was no light. After Yona took me out, I got to see how big the world is. This place showed me it's even bigger than that.

[ Jim curls his legs up closer to his chest, arms wading through the water as he listens to Shin-Ah's story. ]

Sounds lonely. [ He offers a sympathetic look. ] Why did you live in the caves? Couldn't you just stay in the village with everyone else?

The village moved to the caves when I was small. To hide me away from the world. My room was in the deepest and darkest place to protect themselves from me.

[ He frowns a little. Sounds particularly cruel, even though he doesn't have all the information. ]

Why would they need to protect themselves from you?

My eyes can kill. I didn't know how to control them then.

[ Jim's eyebrows raise in surprise, but he takes the information in stride. ]

That's... complicated. [ That's one way to put it. ] But I'm glad you learned to control that ability.

Seiryuu of the past were able to help me when one possessed me.

Seiryuu? [ Jim tilts his head, curious. ] What's that?

The Blue Dragon. [A pause and then...] Me.

You're a dragon. [ That's... what he's getting away from this, at least. ]

Yes. [No hesitation. Yep. That's what he's saying here.]

Wow. [ Jim closes his mouth, processing that bit of information. ] I... alright then. That's a new one, admittedly.

[ He's met a dragon before, but not a dragon who could look human, too. Given all the things he's seen so far, though, it's not as shocking as it could've been. It's kind of exciting, really. Though he won't ask Shin-Ah to show him his dragon form for now. Assuming he has one, anyway. ]

[He's not sure if the man's reaction is a good one or not. So he shifts a little in the water, suddenly looking unsure of himself.]

I...won't hurt you.

[ Jim smiles and chuckles a little, shaking his head. ]

I didn't think you would. But thanks for the reassurance.
