▹▹ ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS
[ Jim hasn't been in the fleet long, and hasn't really gotten to know a whole lot of people, but still, he jumps at the idea of gift giving. Even if he only gets presents for a handful of people, it'll still be worth it. And of course, this is the first year he celebrates Winter or any sort of Christmas-like season with Victor, so that asks for something a little more special too.
Dressed in winter gear from head to toe (including a beanie, gloves and a thick scarf), Jim strolls through the streets, carrying a few more bags as the day goes on. He's easily lured closer to some of the street stands, and he takes a break every so often for a tasty snack or a hot drink. Otherwise he can be found in a variety of stores, possibly looking like he's having an internal struggle about two different presents for someone, or maybe struggling with the bags he's carrying when it draws nearer the end of the day and he's carrying far too many presents. Oops. ]

▹▹ LET IT SNOW
[ Winter is definitely not Jim's season. He likes warmer and sunnier weather for sure, but still, he doesn't get really grumpy about it, and the novelty of snow holds at least some charm.
At some point he decides to indulge, because why not? He'll be strolling straight through the snow, feet sinking into the deeper parts, grinning and chuckling even though he's probably getting soaked all the way up to his knees. He'll also try to build a snowman, though that proves to be far more complicated than it looks in movies and TV shows. He keeps trying, but for the life of him he can't figure out how to get the snow into a round shape, and he groans when his latest attempt just falls apart and turns into a pile of snow instead. ] Oh, come on! How can this be so hard?

▹▹ BABY, IT'S COLD OUTSIDE
[ Exploration and hiking will always hold a special place in Jim's heart. Maybe not so much on this planet, simply because of the temperatures, but he does have a very specific destination in mind: the hot springs.
The walk is a little long but absolutely worth it, Jim decides as soon as his eyes land on the surface of the glowing water. Grinning already, he strips down and hops into the water quickly, where the scars of stab wounds on his stomach are well hidden, and the bite mark going around his arm, shoulder and chest only show partially.
He sighs in relief and absolute delight, his whole body relaxing as he leans back, head resting against the edge, eyes closed. He can already feel his muscles unwind, a well-deserved rest after that walk. ] Now, this is the stuff.

Yeah, it does help to match up to what people want from back home, or as close as we can get. Still tryin' to find mead for those who were wantin' it.
Thing be, it really shouldn't make sense. With how big this all be, we shouldn't be comin' 'cross stuff that tastes like bourbon or vodka. Shouldn't be the same stuff here that makes up drinks that Earth got. Or maybe there be only so many make ups of plants in the universe. [Also, Remy may not be up on advance sciences, but he did love himself some sci fi. And this... was all just sci fi brought to life for him.]

No, it's still... weird. Even in our corner of the galaxy, we saw a myriad of different liquors, with different appearance, taste, and manufacturing process. Oh, do the drinks have the same names, too? Beer, scotch, wine...? Because if that's the case, then it can't possibly be a coincidence.
no subject
Not that 'm complainin', always nice to get hands on a good scotch when I can, so glad to find don't have to do without that. [Then a chuckle.] Or a cheap scotch when just drinkin' to get drunk, rather than savorin' one.

[ Still. Wine implied that there were grapes of some sort, and that the people here also thought of the same way to treat them to make an alcoholic drink out of them. Either that, or there were connections to Earth that they couldn't even begin to fathom or explain. Not when they were so far away from home. ]
Guess I still have some catching up to do on drinks around here. You should give me some suggestions, sometime. On the good stuff, preferably, I don't really drink to get drunk anymore.

Ah, funny ya should mention that, [As he said this, Remy twisted and half pulled himself out of the spring, reaching back to grab the bag he had brought with him for the trek.] I had made up some hot chocolate for the trip, 'nd of course, added alcohol. [Again, for him and Jim, but he was sure his lover wouldn't mind him sharing.
And even if he did, too bad. There was plenty to go around.]
no subject
Sure, why not? Sounds delicious. [ He waited until Remy was settled back in the water again, peering at the bottle. ] Assuming you're offering to share, that is.

Pulling the top cup of the thermos he had brought while on the planet (ice planet, it made sense they would have ways to store hot drinks) he poured Kirk a drink before offering it over to him.] 'nd don't worry, I didn't go over board on the alcohol. Want to add to it, not risk drownin' from gettin' drunk. [Water and alcohol did not mix.
Both being in the water, and watering down drinks.]

[ Jim narrowed his eyes a little, smiling playfully. That much he could figure out about Remy, even when he knew him only for a short time.
He accepted the drink with a thanks, tipping his head before he brought the cup to his mouth and took a small, tasting sip. ] Mmm, that's good. Not that I'm surprised. You're good at mixing drinks.

Guess that's all the more reason to stock up during these stops then, right? Not that I'd know what to do with those ingredients, honestly. I'm a terrible cook. [ He was learning very slowly before coming here, but he was still far from passable. ] Replicators would've come in handy, true. Deep space travel without that kind of alternative makes things very difficult. Limits our options greatly.
no subject
If ya ever feel a want to learn, be happy to share some of m' knowledge. Ain't like don't have access to a decent size kitchen to try it out. [A bit of a smirk with that as Remy rested his arms back up on the edge of the pool, leaning back against the wall of it.]
no subject
[ Advantage or handicap, as it so happened. Now, Jim really wished he knew how to cook. Which was why he perked up visibly at that offer. ]
Really? Well, I'd like that a lot. I've learned some basics, but there's a lot I still don't know.
no subject
Ya always welcome to pop 'nto the Bar when 'm workin' then, though maybe not durin' one of the meal rushes, hein? That or at the Twin Roses, I do keep a collection of stuff there to cook with as well.
no subject
Alright then, I'll take you up on that. And I'll let you know before showing up unannounced, so if you can let me know if you happen to be too busy.
no subject
[There was a tip of his head in acknowledgement to the agreement as Remy sipped at his drink.] Maybe smart, don't think can get 'way too often molestin' ya due to mistaken identity. [As it was pretty common for Jim to be on Remy's ship. Though Remy had gotten better looking out for that ring Kirk wore.]
no subject
[ That just wasn't him, though. Before Riverview, he hadn't even known how to boil pasta. Even making tea for the first time had been a minor success for him.
Jim laughed, nearly snorting some hot cocoa up his nose. ] Yeah, and I'm not sure how many times I'd believe that excuse. [ He grinned and winked teasingly at Remy. ]

No. You'll just have to decide for yourself for how long you want to take your chances.

It honestly was a mistake Remy had no plan of repeating.] I would say how do I win a bet on this, but I feel this is takin' the metaphor a step too far 'nd is threatenin' to fall 'nto the category of 'cheesy'.

However, think will save that for poker tables or whatever we get like it next stop. Not that ya ain't a grand prize cher, but someone's already won ya.
no subject
Thank you, [ He tipped his head. Both for being called a grand prize, and for Remy respecting boundaries. All the more reason for him to feel comfortable around Remy. ] Let me know if you do go for a round of poker, though. It's been forever since I've played.
