▹▹ ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS

[ Jim hasn't been in the fleet long, and hasn't really gotten to know a whole lot of people, but still, he jumps at the idea of gift giving. Even if he only gets presents for a handful of people, it'll still be worth it. And of course, this is the first year he celebrates Winter or any sort of Christmas-like season with Victor, so that asks for something a little more special too.

Dressed in winter gear from head to toe (including a beanie, gloves and a thick scarf), Jim strolls through the streets, carrying a few more bags as the day goes on. He's easily lured closer to some of the street stands, and he takes a break every so often for a tasty snack or a hot drink. Otherwise he can be found in a variety of stores, possibly looking like he's having an internal struggle about two different presents for someone, or maybe struggling with the bags he's carrying when it draws nearer the end of the day and he's carrying far too many presents. Oops. ]

▹▹ LET IT SNOW

[ Winter is definitely not Jim's season. He likes warmer and sunnier weather for sure, but still, he doesn't get really grumpy about it, and the novelty of snow holds at least some charm.

At some point he decides to indulge, because why not? He'll be strolling straight through the snow, feet sinking into the deeper parts, grinning and chuckling even though he's probably getting soaked all the way up to his knees. He'll also try to build a snowman, though that proves to be far more complicated than it looks in movies and TV shows. He keeps trying, but for the life of him he can't figure out how to get the snow into a round shape, and he groans when his latest attempt just falls apart and turns into a pile of snow instead. ] Oh, come on! How can this be so hard?

▹▹ BABY, IT'S COLD OUTSIDE

[ Exploration and hiking will always hold a special place in Jim's heart. Maybe not so much on this planet, simply because of the temperatures, but he does have a very specific destination in mind: the hot springs.

The walk is a little long but absolutely worth it, Jim decides as soon as his eyes land on the surface of the glowing water. Grinning already, he strips down and hops into the water quickly, where the scars of stab wounds on his stomach are well hidden, and the bite mark going around his arm, shoulder and chest only show partially.

He sighs in relief and absolute delight, his whole body relaxing as he leans back, head resting against the edge, eyes closed. He can already feel his muscles unwind, a well-deserved rest after that walk. ] Now, this is the stuff.

Oh, no. Victor gets concerned talks about himself. People don't usually worry much about what I might be up to, but they are pretty quick to wonder if he goes around digging up graves and putting body parts together to build a new Creature.

[ Some people should definitely worry about what Jim might be up to, though, just saying. He can be something of a handful when he's hellbent on getting himself into trouble. ]

[Tim looks off in thought for a moment]

See now I can just imagine; just going by the depiction of you in my world that Victor could be warned of many things. In my world the fictional you could be seen as a bit of a ladies man for one. [He smirks in a teasing manner] That you suffer from wanderlust or just simply that you're a jump first, think about consequences later kinda person.

I have a high school friend who'd just be appalled you and Spock didn't get together.

[ Jim can’t help snort at that. But also... he can’t really argue on most of those. Though he does point out: ]

I was a bit of an everyone man, not just ladies. I’ve always liked to keep my options open.

[ As for the rest, however... ]

I’ve settled down a lot. Even before I met Victor, I think... in any case, I get to travel with him now, so it’s a win/win situation. [ A pause. ] And Spock was insufferable when I first met him. I was a cocky asshole too, but he really had it in for me. Can’t imagine a reality where we’d just hit it off from the start.

Yeah but Star Trek came out in the 60s where I'm from. It broke a lot of conventions but showing that it's leading man might be interested in anything but men, was still not something it was going to be allowed to do.

[Tim's has his hands full now but looks content to just continue the conversation]

Well, you're going to settle down, settle down now and I think I've already been shown today that I shouldn't make presumptions. I just find the differences between worlds interesting when they're not terrifying.

I'm pretty sure the appeals was the fact that you weren't best friends straight away. I've heard a lot of rants but I will admit to tuning them out after a while.

Too bad. I can assure you, though, even your Kirk dipped his toes in plenty of oceans, and not all of them were filled with beautiful, human-looking women.

[ Adjusting the bags in his own hands, he starts on his way down the street again at a leisurely pace. ]

Same here. For what it's worth, Victor was all too aware to my fast and loose tendencies when we got together. But I'm not the cheating kind. If I didn't want to commit, then I simply wouldn't have. [ He can't really understand why anyone would be in a relationship only to cheat on their significant other. Might as well just split up and be single. ]

Really? Didn't your friend think we were too different to just get along right away?Spock's a tough crowd too. I warmed up to him, sure, but it took some time.

[Tim snorts in amusement] Not something I was actually worried about, to be honest?

[He'll follow along, weaving around children and other residents as needed.]

I wasn't implying that you would be unfaithful, just that if someone were to be warning him about you that that could be a possible nitpick that would come up. Just a hypothetical situation.

[He shrugs] I was not having this debate with him. As the saying goes, I did not have a horse in this race so there wasn't really any reason to argue over it.

I've just heard a few rants, I believe this kind of thing is called a 'slow burn' and there being a lot of 'UST' [He rolls his eyes]

Nor should you be, so I'm glad to hear.

[ People like who they like, after all. It should hardly matter to other people. ]

Okay, fair point. Guess it's a good thing no one has tried to warn him. I'd be devastated if he broke off the engagement. [ Said teasingly because he knows Victor wouldn't, really. ]

Oh. Yeah, I... heard that before, too. [ He huffs a chuckle and shakes his head. ] Not with me, at least. Spock's a happily committed man in my world, and very much in love even if he might not admit to it.

Yes, I can clearly see you're terribly worried about that happening. [Teasing back, he can do that, right? It's not weird.]

It seems you're both happily committed men at this point. Lucky for my friend, my memories are likely to be wiped if I ever return home so I can't use this information to break his brain.

You never know. He might one day realize he's too good for me. [ An exaggerated sigh, then he chuckles. Just kidding, they're just perfect for each other. ]

Maybe. Or maybe you will remember. I've kept all the memories of the last place I was in, for instance. Guess you won't know until you do go back.

Yeah please do not have the conversation with me have you getting insecure and panicky because I am not equipped to handle that.

[More teasing but seriously, he might just hide under his cape if this turns that way.]

I had been told by someone who has been taken and returned a couple of times, as well as a family member having the same experience. They said no time passes and you remember nothing. I honestly don't know what I hope is true.

[ Jim laughs and shakes his head. ] Don't worry, you're safe.

[ Even if he was feeling insecure, which he's sure he never will, he wouldn't dump all that on someone he's just met. ]

I hope to remember. [ For obvious reasons. ] If not, then I'd rather settle down on a planet somewhere, instead of going back.

[There's a visible sigh of relief.] Thank you. Seriously, you want a criminal caught, mystery solved or someone hacked I will help you out. Just, not the other stuff.

[He's not as allergic to emotions as Bruce, but that doesn't mean he gives good advice]

I hope you get what you want then.

I want to remember but I don't want my family and friends to worry about me suddenly disappearing. I also worry that knowledge learnt about me could be taken back to a parallel world and used- poorly.

[ Jim nods, then gestures to Robin's outfit. ] That's what the suit's for, I take it?

[ He's met superheroes before, he knows how this goes. Superman? They were totally best friends, a long time ago. ]

I hope so too. [ He gets that, though. He struggled with that a lot, too. It took him a while to get to the point where Victor was just too important for Jim to ever leave him behind. ] I hope you also figure out what you want.

[He'll nod] I'm trying to find what a need for a more comfortable alternative. These are not made to be worn all day every day.

Are you guys planning to get married while on the fleet? I heard something about there being a wedding happening with some other passengers?

You should look around while we're still here. I'm not sure how much longer we'll be sticking around.

[ The Fleet could leave at any moment, after all. And in Jim's own experience, it could be months before they stop again. ]

Oh yeah, I heard about that one. Werewolves, actually. They're getting married pretty soon. And honestly, I want to get married as soon as possible, but we might wait a while so there aren't two weddings following so close after each other.

Oh, I have been, it's how I ran into you, to begin with.

[Okay maybe he got distracted by looking for materials for gadgets instead but it's how the trip started]

Werewolves... of course. Why didn't I think of that.

Well if you need an extra pair of hands? I'm quite happy to help set things up.

[I mean he's helped set up a few galas in the Wayne manor before under Alfred's instruction so this can't be too different right?]

Sure, totally normal, right? [ Jim smiles a bit at that. ]

You get used to it. The weird and unusual. Some things will stop catching you by surprise, trust me.

[ He tips his head, looking genuinely grateful for the offer. ] I'll make sure to keep that in mind. We'll likely need all the help we can get.

I'm pretty used to the weird and unusual actually. I mean my best friends are a clone and a time traveller. So at this point I feel like every weird thing that happens should be followed by the statement 'but of course, why wouldn't it be?'

So it's less surprise and more [He searches for the right word] resignation?

Honestly, I'm already going a bit stir crazy with nothing to do. Except get home but I keep hitting a metaphorical brick wall in that long term plan. So helping in any task right now is helping me too?

That's a good thing, actually. I got used to a lot of weird stuff before coming here, and it definitely comes in handy. You learn to take even the strangest things in stride. So that gives you an advantage.

[ Especially if he sticks around for any long period of time. ]

You and me both. I don't like sitting still, either. For what it's worth, people do tell me things tend to get livelier every so often. Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing yet.

I can't imagine being a normal civilian and being pulled into this situation although for some reason I don't think that would happen very often.

Unless the Atroma suddenly decide that's entertaining?

The only exciting things I've heard are from Taako and he offhandedly mentioned pirates and cannibals.

There are probably a few, but yeah, as far as I can tell, most people on the Fleet seem far from your average civilian.

And now you know about werewolves. [ His lips twitch. ] I'm sure excitement will find its way to us one way or the other. Whether we want it or not.

The people who seem like the average civilian just know how to hide it better that's all.

[He'll chuckle] Actually the time I've spent here has been the quietest I've ever had for a while. It almost qualifies as a vacation at this point.

I can feel all my skills atrophying away. [He jokes, but then stops as a thought hits him.]

Is three-dimensional chess a game you actually play and enjoy and not just something from my world's depiction of you? and if so, would you play with me?

[He suddenly seems very excited by the idea.]

Maybe so.

[ Jim can't really argue with that. He doesn't see the appeal in getting too many civilians here, save for the initial shock and surprise. Overall, though, it's likely much better to have as much variety as possible. Adds more excitement, more friction between them. Feeds into the drama.

He lets out a soft laugh. ] There's a big gym on the Fleet, for what it's worth. Helps keep you active, if nothing else.

[ He raises an eyebrow at the question, amused. ] Yes, it is a game I actually play, and yes, I am very good at it. And sure, we can play sometime. Are you any good?

I have spent some time mapping out the Iskaulit. It has a surprising amount. I think the room with the small mountain was the most shocking and I'm not sure how the Fox Park came about but well it wasn't what I was expecting to say the least.

I have been making use of the dojo and the gym. I hope to find a camera as well to play in the photo studio again but I suppose I need a job or a purpose here?

I play chess at home with both my adoptive father and grandfather and I have training in strategy and battle tactics but, well, no, I haven't done three-dimensional chess before.

Oh, Victor got me a camera, so you should be able to find one around here. Once your paychecks start rolling in, you have a lot of financial freedom to get stuff you want but don't necessarily need.

[ Shaking his head, ] That's alright. I've taught a few people who only knew regular chess and they caught on pretty quickly, so you should do fine.
