[Kogarasumaru is sitting in the garden of the Caprine. On his shoulder rests a beautiful bird who currently happens to be asleep and burrowed into that wing hair of its owner.

The owner who smiles at the screen now.]

It would seem that we have had quite a few changes after returning to our ships. Some new arrivals and some loses as well.

[He looks to the bird and gently strokes its head.]

Sadly, Baku has departed. In her place, as captain of the Caprine, you will find myself. I am also the caretaker of the fox park and dojo here. I will be continuing my sword lessons now that we have returned. Should you require answers to questions, this father is named Kogarasumaru.

[He will nod and leave that there. Anyone living on or visiting the Caprine is welcome to come visit him.]

But we can wait until you're comfortable with your new position and have a runner up chosen. I'd hate to leave your ship in disarray.

I don't plan to ask for a first mate. If someone wishes to come to me then I will accept. Otherwise I don't mind doing this alone.

You lead your swords back home, yeah? Then you're probably fine without one.

They are not my swords. They are their own swords. Though, I am not certain what gave you the impression that I am their leader.

Isn't that what dads do? They say something and therefore it's law and everyone has to follow it? And if you don't then you're considered a bad son and a shame to your family's name? [He says it casually and with no remorse. For him this was just a matter of fact. Plus; he has no shame about being the shameful son of his family's name that he has long since abandoned.] That's pretty much a leader, isn't it?

Or is it different for swords?

Sure. My father and a bunch of others. Don't go thinking I'm special or anything like that.

I mean, how many fathers do you know that are proud of the fact that their son killed their lord and a hundred of his guards, law men, and bounty hunters?

Such would depend on the father. Though one would possibly believe that to be your own doing.

Still, that is but one interpretation of a father and a father does not automatically imply leadership nor ownership.

Not any father I've heard or knew of. But I suppose that's a good thing.

I am growing concerned about how you view a family structure.

Okay, so we didn't have first mates back home, but two dads certainly weren't a thing! [He didn't have a word for that so the augment in his head gave him one to use: first mate.] My family structure was normal. Your family structure is the weird one with swords coming to life.

[Because he's a bit of a simpleton.] Yeah. That's why my view of the family structure isn't somethin' to worry about. It's just the way it is for humans, I guess.

Somehow I don't feel that is always the case. With that said, a father is not necessarily a leader. And they still are not my swords.

Is there a reason you feel that a woman cannot lead the family, Manji? They are quite capable.
