Tony would probably be proud of Steve, if he were able to see him right now. He'd slap his back and welcome him back to the world of inebriation while ordering shots for everyone in the bar to commemorate the day. As it is, though, Tony isn't here and, without him, there's not a damn person who would feel proud in this entire bar. That's part of it's charm.

Steve sighs and swallows his fourth drink. It's strong and alien and somehow enough to give him a strong buzz but not enough to really get him drunk. Not yet, at least. But he's not a quitter, so bottom's up! He hisses a little at the burn of it and feels, not for the first time, like he was being a coward. He saw some stuff in those rooms, sure. But other people had it so much worse. Saw so much more. He should really be thankful, actually.

But he's not. And this is a 30's approved way of getting over trauma. There were worse ways of coping, he was sure. So for now he's just going to stay in his seat and keep ordering drinks until that elusive drunken state hits him once more.

Should only take another hour or three.

No one could blame Steve for starting. He'd messaged his friends about fifteen minutes ago, telling them to meet him at the bar for some drinks. But just sitting here, waiting? It was done better with a drink in hand to look social, at least. And it's not like that one is going to be his last. No, after Calibrations he can imagine himself coming over here quite often. He can imagine all of them coming here quite often, in fact. But maybe tonight (today? Space was hard to judge) would help take some of the sting off. Or at least some of the awkwardness. 

But it wasn't as though they <i>chose</i> to share all of that. Loki, Steve is sure, would have preferred to keep his death to himself. And Thor? I am sure half of those memories were things he'd rather not have replayed over and over again. And <i>Hux</i>. God... That was just what Steve knew of. Who knew what other people had put his friends through? What they'd been through themselves? 

Steve preemptively orders another drink for whoever shows up first. Whoever it was, he's sure they won't say no. Not now. 

First round is on him.

Fun times. Haven't had it m'self, but got people 'm close to gone through it. They get on 'mazin' though. [Good thing Jim Kirk loved himself so much...]

Ah, merde, let's see... think it was... 2003? 'nd oui, be from Earth, or an Earth a least. Seems we got quite a collection of them 'round this place.

[Steve whistles.]

That's a little while ago for me. I'm from 2015. But at least we share Earth. [Steve thinks about it and Remy is right. They have quite a few of Earth folk around here. Wonder if it means anything.]

You know. I...hope this isn't rude, but... [He gestures toward Remy's eyes.] Was that...cosmetic?

[Remy let out a chuckle and a grin.] Well, ya ain't tryin' to shoot or punch me or something, so ain't rude at all.

No, I was born with them. 'm a mutant, a person who be born with powers, 'nd in my case a physical manifestation of them as well. Ain't the only one 'round, got a homme 'round here who be covered in blue fur 'nd a tail. Good man, if ya can get pass the sass.

Like Kitty?

[The blue person doesn't sound familiar but talking about mutants does. Kitty had explained all about her world and how one of her teammates was here. Maybe Remy was the person she was talking about. The idea of that instantly makes Steve warm up to the bartender by a couple degrees.]

Do you go through things like her? Phasing I think she called it?

Kitty be a mutant as well, but we got different powers. She can pass through stuff, if she's bein' nice, [Don't think Remy hasn't considered what Kitty would be possible of, tearing out a person's organ, or leaving something inside of someone.] While m' powers tend to be more explodey. Basically I can make bombs out of, well, 'nything really.

[These powers are incredible. Steve lets out a small whistle, impressed.]

Anything at all? [Something Kitty told him before makes his amazement turn to concern.] I heard the powers come around thirteen or so for you guys. Kitty said she used to fall through floors. Did...you have problems too? [Bombs seem a bit more dangerous than just falling.]

Yeah, 'nything. Bigger stuff just takes longer to charge. [Less so now days than before Remy mucked around with his powers, but still slightly longer than smaller items.]

Ah, [That was a touchy topic, so Steve will just get the cliff notes of it.] Yeah, do hear a few horror stories goin' 'round like that. I certainly gained m'self a few scars over the years from them, burns 'nd the likes. 'nd certainly destroyed a few things while gettin' the hang of it all. Comes with the territory.

Powers can be easier to hide though, the eyes, less so, 'specially when ya a kid.

Do they...hurt? Or have some ability?

[Steve is making eye contact to be polite but also wants badly to not seem like he is staring. It's a hard line to walk but he smiles and hopes that helps. He's seen stranger things than this, after all. Eyes are just eyes.]

Kids are pretty awful no matter what. I know from experience myself; they'll find something to poke at if they want to.

[Remy is hesitant to go into too much details again. He doesn't know Steve, and sure, he's not planning to make an enemy of him, but he is naturally quiet when it comes to details about himself. Never know when it may be used against him.] 'm not a big fan of bright lights, I work better in the dark.

Ah, kids, adults, how I picked up the name Le Diablo Blanc.

The White Devil? That's...well. Rude doesn't quite cover it.

[Steve knows French from his time in the war but even without that fluency he'd know what that meant. It speaks to the cruelty people can be capable of to those that are different.]

For what it's worth, I've seen real devils. And their eyes are closer to mine than yours.

The issues with growin' up in a mix of Catholic 'nd voodoo area, got a whole bunch of folks with a bunch of strong beliefs that look for the darker side of life, for better or worse.

[Also, that was sweet Steve, but don't worry, Remy's not the one with a 'demon' complex. The younger Kurt who had once been around had been a different case, and Remy hoped the boy would one day get that notion out of his head.] Cher, I be from the South, trust me, I know how bad bigots can get. M' Tante, certainly does too.

[Steve accepts that with a small shrug and a smile.] I wish you hadn't had to deal with it, though. From what I've heard, mutant powers sound like they would be able to change your world for the better. It's a shame they aren't treated that way.

[Then again, look at how Wanda was treated in his universe. Was that really so different?]

At least here you all have a lot of company...

Ya say that, but don't go thinkin' it all makes us all good. No one group be all good or all bad, cher. [A semi amused look as he raises a brow towards Steve, moving to pour himself a drink since he was staying to chat.] Ya put that kinda power behind someone who wanna do harm 'nd can't be talked out of it, it be a real weapon.

I get why people be scared of us, don't blame them, just as always, 'nnocent people gettin' hurt because of those who ain't. [Hey, Remy, forgetting you were one of the 'bad guys' back home? Sure you didn't help out with that image at all.]

[The 'cher' talk is finally putting a small flush to Steve's cheeks. He knows it's just a term instead of an endearment, but it's strange to have it sent his way. He tries to hide it with his drink and the serious turn of the conversation.] I can understand that. Not everyone with abilities is good in my world, either. And people will always mistrust that which is different. [Just look at Wanda. Just look at The Accords. Some things are the same no matter what universe you're in and human nature seems to be one of the constants.] At least we're around to help. [Big assumption, Steve.]

[Sorry Steve, you'll have to get use to it as Remy throw it out a lot.

He also lets out a bit of a huff into his own glass, a touch of a smile to it as he speaks over the rim of the glass, having moved to lean a hip against the bar.] At least. [Taking a drink after that. He... is not sure how much they can help, not from here, not on the scale he is guessing Steve is talking about if it's anything like how Vision speaks about it.

As complex as this all was, the Fleet had a way of simplifying everything. Troubles became small stuff, like running the bar, not dealing with 'god' mutants or Sentinels or the mess his family was in back home. Boring? Yes. Easier to handle? Absolutely.]

[Steve smiles at the confirmation even of he doesn't quite understand what his huff and smile are about. He sips at his own drink a bit more, nearly coming to the end of it. Maybe that was a good spot for the night.]

Well. I have to thank you, Remy. Much nicer to not drink alone, after all. I appreciate the company.

Ya always welcome to stop by, either here at the bar or swing by the Twin Roses. [Steve seems like a good guy so far, plus it was always nice getting along with fellow fleet mates than making enemies.] If 'm not at the bar, we got some good staff 'round here too, 'nd sure they won't have an issue with havin' a chat 'nd drink too, [A bit of a chuckle.] We ain't too strict 'round these parts.

I'm sure I'll see them around, too. [A place like this seemed to encourage getting drunk on a regular basis. Steve had sort of missed the feeling of it, actually. It's nice to have the option open, at least.

He extends his hand for a shake, apparently unafraid of being turned into a bomb.]
