[the elf is half-dressed at his comms station as usual, wrapped in a sheet that he has dragged from his bunk, like a slob. he's settled in there, with a snack and an idea. and this idea sprouted its way into his head while paging through the frequencies, listening in on conversations--both public and encrypted--like any good, nosy comms officer.

it makes him wonder if there's anyone else out there doing the same thing. so, he starts out with a normal, bland, video broadcast. just some smiley elven guy derping around on the network.]

So... you ever wonder why they pick certain people to bring here? Like, what it is about them that makes them think "hey, this guy would be perfect for our show?"

There are so many people now, and... I don't know... everybody's really different, I think. It just makes me wonder.

[and then, with a few taps of the keyboard, he quietly sets up an encryption, so that only curious folks with a comms augment can break in and see the rest of the broadcast--]

[and he can't help but laugh and let his eyes go dramatically wide, shaking his head.]

Because, wow... some of these people are weird.

[he's not really expecting much of a response, honestly. he is perhaps underestimating how many comms folks there might be poking around in the encrypted corners of the network.]

I've been wondering the same thing. Some of us are just normal human beings, we don't really fit in with the superpowered members of the fleet.

[oh, hey... there's a bit of a pause while he squints a little, checking to see if the replying broadcast is encrypted or not. and then he nods!]

Yeah, and it's not even just that. There are really, really dangerous people here, and then there are also just kids.

Like. In wheelchairs.

[...he probably should have encrypted this anyway. hopefully Nunnally doesn't see this sometime and get upset. oops.]

I know. It's just not safe, but that's probably why they're doing it. Every new member causes some kind of splash.

Yeah, I'm worried that they're trying to get people hurt.

It's like... [ugh, and then some horrible possible example of this comes to mind, and he gets a little more worked up.] ...It's like they know what will set some people off, and they make sure to put them all in one place, hoping that something bad will happen.

That's kind of how reality shows work, unfortunately. They're all about ratings, and ratings are all about drama. Where I come from, it's just usually scripted, but this is all real.

[whoa, his eyes widen a little.]

...You have this where you're from?

Yeah, media runs rampant in my world. It's been pretty easy to play the system here because of that.

[he straightens up in his seat and leans a little closer to the screen.]

What... really?

Well, yeah. Tip: if you have something really important you want to say to someone, make sure you do it in person or over a video feed. They're gonna see the fallout anyway, you might as well make a profit off of it.

Oh...

[he thinks hard about this, gnawing on his lip ring for a moment.]

So, does it have to be caught on the network to count? Or are they watching all the time?

Judging by my paycheck? They're pretty much constantly watching.

Really?...

[there's a pause while the wheels start turning slowly in his head. which is maybe a bad thing. the last thing he needs is to start coming up with ideas. because they will all be bad ones.]
