I'm not Asgardian. And it is not courtesy I take issue with, it's conformity.

[He considers, for a long moment, explaining the cultural significance of "vanilla" and how he isn't serving any, but decides it wouldn't be worth it. Every time. Every time, he tries to get a glimpse of what it is about this guy that people actually like and every time it fails (except when Loki's a child and hasn't yet developed whatever antipathy towards the Vision it is that he holds).]

I was asking you about ice cream, Loki, not moral philosophy. If you believe that wanting to provide a variety of flavors and recipes due to the varying tastes of different guests is conformity, you clearly aren't as familiar with human culture as you believe you are.

[ loki glances at vision's sweater with an eyebrow, bemused. he can practically hear the salt in vision's voice. he doesn't mind. ultimately, loki was right about vision and the end he'll bring and that's what matters. ]

Oh, I would never profess much familiarity with human culture. But it is impressive how far you'll go to adhere to it. You've been in the Fleet for many years. You've met many species. But you never seek to embrace that.

What in this party has your taste?

[He actually relaxes a little at that. That would have been a valid criticism back home, but...things are different here. He's experienced an entirely different life.]

The gift I gave to my beloved. It's of a style originating on the planet Zeus, from which one of my earliest friends in the Fleet originated.

[He taps the green ice cream.] This flavoring is made from a menthol-containing plant native to Arslae that I acquired for its medicinal value. The pink is a berry from the hand-holding planet, my personal favorite place we've visited. The chocolate is by human request, of course, as is the rest of the party, but then it is a party for humans.

[The berry flavor has a creamy sweet base - a sweetness that would almost be overwhelming, but finely-chopped pieces of frozen berries add enough tartness that it keeps the overall flavor fresh. There's also an undercurrent of a very light savory flavor from the seeds - it's easily the most complex of the three ice creams.

It's also had a lot of taste-testing from the resident humans on his ship, so it's as good as amateur food science can make it.]
