[When Isabela wakes up the first thing she does is check for daggers. Which are, of course, absent. She checks both her surroundings and her person.]

Shit.

[Unsurprisingly voicing her frustration doesn't help. There doesn't even seem to be anything she can use as a makeshift weapon. Cautiously, she bends down to retrieve a rather magnificent hat that seems to have fallen off while she was still out. She feels around in that too. Just in case. Any concealed weapons it might have held at one time are no longer there, however.

Is it even possible for her to look any more pissed off? Evidently so.]

[He kind of wants to do a little jig, a little foot-shuffle, to celebrate the fact that for the first time in longer than he cares to remember someone didn't reject him the moment he opened his mouth. She's kinda blatant, for a chick, but he likes that, he can work with that.

He holds out his hand for her to shake first, though, looking obviously pleased with the proceedings.]

Detective Ray V- [He has got to stop introducing himself by his undercover name. And also maybe stop thinking of himself as a detective, since there doesn't even seem to be a police force around here.] Kowalski. Really nice to meet you, under the, uh, circumstances.

[She takes the hand he offers, squeezing firmly through the rough leather of her gloves as she shakes it. ]

Admiral Isabela. I could almost say the same. Though I have woken up in worse places so it could be worse.

[She doesn't miss the pause or correction of his name, but she doesn't comment on it, nor does she care if he prefers to use something other than the name he was given.]

[He likes that, too, the firm handshake. He's always been a sucker for a strong woman, and it looks like Isabela's got it down pat.]

Hey, do I hear that. Halfway up a frozen mountain's not really my idea of a fun night. [He grins again and starts moving.]

[She laughs as she loosens her grip, allowing her fingers to linger on his before he starts moving.]

Nor mine. Can you imagine the frostbite I'd get in these?

[Which er. Is probably why people usually wear sleeves in cold climates. And also something other than boots on their legs.]

[That sounds like an invitation to him-- he thumbs at his nose as he looks her over, then gives a funny little half-shrug.]

Yeah, it looks like you're more used to hot places. [He looks at her again (phoo-ee), then jerks his head at the hat] So, Admiral, huh? That a, uh, navy thing?

[She adjusts the hat a little as he looks at it, shaking her head with a faintly exasperated smile. Does he really think she looks like a naval officer?]

Oh, sweet thing. I'm a pirate. It's a pirate thing.

[The only 'naval officer' he's ever seen was in her 50s and wearing a bright red Mountie uniform, so he's not really sure what they're supposed to look like.

He hears the word 'pirate' and makes a kicked-puppy expression. Just his luck-- he finds a hot chick who's acting like she's into him, and she's a pirate.]

Ah, crap, are you kidding me? You ain't plannin' on doing any'a that here, are you? I mean, I guess this is out of my jurisdiction, but uh--

[Oh, that's cute. The change in his expression makes her laugh.]

What if I was? Would you be forced to put a stop to the pirate hag and her wicked ways?

[Lady, do not make this sexy on him, he is a professional law enforcer, you can't get sexy on those!

Except you totally can, but he's mostly just rolling his eyes now.]

Saying 'stop, Chicago P.D.' probably won't do the trick over here. [Or in Chicago, but at least there he had a gun.] Anyway, I look like the kinda guy who'd use a word like 'hag'?

[That is to say: yes. He'd be forced to do that, no matter how much he'd be hating himself while doing it.]

[Please, she has got sexy on many of those. In so many ways.]

The kind of man who uses a word like hag doesn't usually look so personally wounded by discovering someone he wants to shag is a pirate.

What's a Chicago PD? Why would I stop for one?

[He looks wounded, then kind of embarrassed at hearing her say that out loud (flirting is one thing, but somehow that makes it seem kind of pathetic), and then exasperated. Criminals, geez.]

It's-- [He makes a small, frustrated flailing gesture] the police. And usually you stop because I got a gun and a hungry wolf on my side, and because I'm really fucking stubborn, alright?

[She can get the gist from context despite the strange words he uses. She rests a soothing hand on his shoulder, though she's obviously more amused than apologetic.]

If I run from you it's because you're far too adorable for me to want to fight you.

Weren't you going to show me around? I'll never manage to find anything worth stealing if you're going to stand there looking sad instead.

[It sounds like she's joking, but... she probably isn't. ]

Hey! [He is definitely bristling now, standing up straight. He's not small, at 5'10" (and a half), but his wiry frame and stupid scowl probably make up for that.]

I am a licensed police officer and I ain't afraid to take down a suspect, even if they're hot pirates from some kinda freaky other world. Alright? Good.

[He starts walking (stomping) again, making some angry noises under his breath, but he obviously expects her to follow. She hasn't stolen anything yet, after all, and he knows he won't do anything unless she acts on her hot pirate nature.]

Oh, detective. Please don't sentence me to bed arrest.

[She follows after him, cackling. Apparently seducing him isn't the only thing that's easy.]

[He doesn't stop walking, but from behind she can see that he's rubbing at his eyebrow and shaking his head- he's laughing, but he has to retain some dignity, right?

Ray is easy: he's easy to seduce, easy to get a rise out of, but he also adapts easily. So she says she's a pirate- it's kind of a shock at first, but why should he care, right now? Unless she's harming people or property, it's no skin off his back. Not in Chicago, and not here.]

You're thinkin' of a judge. I just haul 'em in and lay 'em out.

[The laughter is obvious so she takes it as a win. She ups her pace to walk with him instead of following.]

Then I had best be on my best behaviour. I'd hate do do something that might force your hand.

[He fishes a toothpick out of some vague pocket somewhere and sticks it in his mouth before grinning at her lopsidedly. He's walking them to the observation deck: nothing like getting space all up in your face to make a point.]

Oh, yeah, you seem like the type of gal who hates forcing anyone's hand.

[She has no idea where they're going, but it's unlikely to be less interesting than where she woke up. The bar isn't set very high.]

Absolutely detest it.

Yeah, yeah. [He shakes his head again, and then opens the door to the observation desk.]

Voilà. [Said with the flair of a man who doesn't know a lick of French. He seems pretty pleased with himself- probably because he's still genuinely, honestly amazed every time he looks at it.]

[Isabela doesn't respond. Not to him. She brushes past him, transfixed by the sight that greets her. ]

[He leans against a wall, arms crossed, grinning. That's what he'd intended to happen, and he's kind of glad she's not cynical enough to not enjoy this as much as he still enjoys it.]

[For a time it's almost as if she's forgotten him. Of all the things she's imagined this isn't one of them. She's seen the stars a thousand times. She knows all the ones seen from Thedas and how to navigate them.

But this... this is different.]

Magnificent.

[He's been fiddling with the toothpick, and then with assorted bits and bobs in his pockets- he finds it challenging to stay still, alright? But he's kind of happy to stand there and watch the view (both of them).]

Thought you'd like it.

[She does like it. She knows already she'll miss the feel of the wind in her face and the smell of sea of she remains stuck here. She always does. But the sight stirs her excitement. It's a little terrifying, but most definitely awe inspiring.]

Aren't you supposed to finish with the high point? Anything else seems doomed to anticlimax.

[He's already moving again, walking up closer to the deck's edge, craning his neck. He laughs a little at that terrible joke.]

I'm a dancer. I know how to make a good finish, Admiral.
