[Magnus isn't one to stay in one place, so during the drift period he's making himself useful. Sort of. Okay, not really. He can be found in the gym lifting an obscene amount of weights or practicing his punches, and sometimes he's working on his axe-swinging with the one he bought on the last planet.

Sometimes he just wanders through some of the other rooms without touching anything, like the music room and the dojo. He's happy to strike up a conversation or give someone a sparring partner if desired, but he's really only looking for the next challenge.]

[When he's tired of working on his sweet flips, he spends some quiet time with a woodcarving knife and a hunk of alien chestnut. He kicks his legs up onto the console, and whittles like that, his eyes intent on what he's doing while he listens to the sound of the ship and the crew going about their business. Sometimes he hums or whistles a low folk song to fill the silence, but otherwise he's less loud and boisterous than usual.

Even Magnus can't be a 14/10 all the time. Sometimes he's gotta be like a 7.]

[Magnus is apparently standing in the obstacle course on the Iskaulit, if anyone's been there recently. He thought he understood the programming, he really did-- but there appears to be a Magnus-shaped hole in several of the obstacles behind him, like he crashed through them in a straight line instead of going around them. The splinters are very telling. Sorry, Peter.]

So, uh, your training room here?

[A couple sparks pop off in the background. Magnus casually uses a detached automatic tennis ball shooter as a backscratcher.]

I thought an obstacle course was supposed to slow people down, but it's not working. Maybe I hit the wrong button. Anyway, whoever's in charge of it-- you should look into that.

[Something falls over nearby. Magnus glances off camera.] Hmm... guess I can clean up before I leave. It's not safe to leave broken boards laying around.

[The feed cuts here, presumably so he can do this.]

[ooc: I got permission! The obstacle course will have reinforced boxes and boards after this, and he'll work on fixing the metal stuff he broke next system. ~~Probably.~~]

[There's no real response, initially- not words, anyway. Instead there is only wild, delightful giggles in the background as the communicator's owner staggers a few steps away, laughing at the absurdity.

Oh, Mags. She's been working damage control with Taako since Kravitz vanished, so this is seriously a welcome change of mood.]

[He noticed Kravitz hasn't come by in a while and that's not excellent. He's pretty sure he's gone. His name isn't anywhere.]

Uh oh, I broke Lup.

Hah! As if I'm that fragile.

[She may be a squishy wizard but she's been around the block a few times.]

You definitely broke some shit over there, though. Did you forget how walls work again?

You got me there. I wouldn't use you as a melee weapon, but you could make a damn good flamethrower.

[Magnus has good aim, too.]

I didn't forget how walls worked! I just expected them to be... better. What's the point of an obstacle course if the obstacles don't get in your way?

Hell yeah. We should come up with a name for that one, I swear we've used it a few times in the past.

[They did a lot of wild shit on the Starblaster journey- both to survive, and to have a good time. She knows Mags is always up for some dangerous thrill-seeking, he's dependable in that way.]

The point is to go around the obstacles, dingus, not through them. It's practice for when you're up against stuff that isn't so breakable.

Oh yeah, now that I think about it... We couldn't come up with a name back then either.

[It's hard to decide on the most ridiculous name when they keep one-upping each other.]

But if it's breakable, then how is it good practice for stuff that isn't? This sounds like agility stuff. [He's not as good at that as he'd like to be, rogue training or not.] Maybe I really did hit a wrong button.

Sounds like it's time for a brainstorming sesh.

[Because that worked out so great when she did it with Kravitz on the last planet.]

It is agility stuff. Obstacles! Dodge 'em! Sounds like you need the extra training if you can't get around that, Mr. Roguemaster.

[Though she hadn't really gotten the chance to see any of his training, since she'd been attached to Taako's back the whole time.]

[Manji enjoys the gym. It's one of his favorite spots on the Iskaulit. Seeing a fellow crew member working out and swinging an ax around only makes it even better in his mind.] You really aren't too bad with that thing, are ya?

[Magnus tosses the axe in the air and catches it with a snap and a grin.]

I've had some experience.

[... Like a hundred years' worth. But moving on--]

What's your favorite machine here? I'm a weights guy myself.

I don't really like the machines. [He won't admit it's because they confuse and slightly scare him. HOW DO THEY EVEN WORK!?] So I favor the weights as well. [He gets those. Heavy thing you lift up and down.]

Weights are a great way to challenge yourself. I mean, the bigger the number, the better! And I feel like that's the quickest way to see if you've improved, too.

Sitting on the bike is just depressing. You pedal and you pedal and you don't go anywhere. It's like an analogy for getting stuck in a dead end job and being dissatisfied with your life or something.

Never did much like the seats on bikes either. I swear those things were made more for torture then for riding.

Abso-freaking-lutely. At least make the seat a saddle, like a horse. Instead there's this triangle thing and talk about ouch.

[He rests his axe against his shoulder.]

By the way-- you still up for a spar sometime? It doesn't have to be right now.

Exactly! I swear they weren't made for men to ride.

[Here he grins wildly with an excited glint to his eye.] Oh hell yeah. Anytime that you're ready I'll be there.

You're doing it wrong.

[Who is this... sassy lost child?]

Using the obstacle course. You're not supposed to run through it.

Is that written down somewhere? "Obstacles are only imaginary, use caution"?

They're not imaginary... but you're supposed to climb and crawl under and like... you know, do the exercise that the obstacle represents. You don't just slam through the boards like you're a wrecking ball.

[It's the whistling that will get her attention. Because it's whistling. And because the ship isn't that big.]

Bored? [Asking with a sideways glance.]

[He stops when he's addressed. He thinks on the question for a moment, rolling it around his tongue until the words sound right.]

Kinda yeah, kinda naw. There's not a whole lot of... music here? So I was thinking of a song from home.

Do you have bards wherever you're from?

We have musicians. I don't think many of them would call themselves bards, though.

[For a number of reasons. It's not a distinction Natasha generally puts much thought into.]

I think most people do.

Hmm. Well, I think you have to be able to cast magic as a bard, or something. So maybe they don't do the magic part?

[It's amazing just how much of one's life revolves around their chosen class.]

Anyway, I'm just not used to the quiet. The engine noise, yeah, that's kind of familiar in a weird way, but... I've been adventuring a while now. I like being outside.

The magic part is probably the difference. We don't have much of that where I'm from.

[Not much, but not none either. A fact she's had plenty of time to make peace with.]

We could get some music if you want, though. I think there's some on the network.

I can't imagine what that's like, but a couple of my best friends are fireball-slinging elves, so... y'know.

[He's seen a hundred planets, some with more magic than others, and yet he has always had magic in his life.]

Not a bad idea. [He rubs his chin.] We could take turns if someone else wanted to listen to something too! That way everyone gets a chance to listen to something new or something they like.

Do you like violins?

Depends on if the person playing them knows what they're doing.

[Doesn't seem like a terribly bad idea, anyway.]

Not a bad place to start though. We could try it out.

If it doesn't work, just go back to the way it was.

[He. Can't.

Taako stares at the screen, at the destruction evident in the background, and drops his face into the palm of his hand. He'd laugh if he wasn't so exhausted lately, but even so this is a welcome change of pace from the recent news.]

How are you even-- Do I need to put a child leash on you? I was just asking your captain if you'd been giving her trouble.

[He snorts.]

I haven't been giving anyone trouble! This isn't my ship! It's just a room that I borrowed. You hit a button and it makes an obstacle course for you with robits or something.

[A pause, and he adds:]

If you make me wear a leash it'd better have a big dog on it. You know, the kind where the 'paws' sit on your shoulders over the straps? Yeah.

Did you rip the robit arms off? [Again. Seriously. That moment, while now hilarious in hindsight, is still one of the defining moments in his time of knowing Magnus. You can't just watch a guy rip a robit's arms off and not find it equal parts "what the fuck?! that's messed up!" and "what the fuuuuuck?? that's weirdly hot and I never want to think that again."]

And you know, I can probably make that happen. I know a guy who apparently can sew a sugar glider onesie.

[Maybe. One day. He did say he'd try at the very least.]

But if I get it made? You have to wear it.

I didn't see any arms to rip off, sadly. [He holds up his improvised backscratcher, which used to shoot tennis balls.] I got this though, it's kinda like an arm? I thought I'd take it anyway, but then I realized that this place belongs to somebody. They probably don't want me to take it.

Maybe the robit had a loving, caring family. Like that guy with the four arms I met my first night here, maybe they hang out? I dunno.

[He is actually considering this leash idea now, and kink has nothing to do with it.]

Who wouldn't want a-- an adorable perfect puppy perched on their... uh, shoulders? Heck yeah I'm wearing that. The height of dog fashion-- wearing dogs, except not in the creepy Fantasy Cruella way.

Well, if they didn't want you to take it, they should've secured it better, am I right?

[And he's pretty sure that robot with four arms? Yeah, he definitely doesn't have a loving family. Taako talked to him once, too, and hooooboy, talk about a Grumpy Guster.]

...Wait. Seriously? [Of course Magnus is serious. He should have known. Briefly, he laughs and then shakes his head.]

Yeah sure, okay. Lemme see what I can do. Just you can't complain to me if I leash you to a fuckin' shuttle ship to give you exercise. I'm not walkin' your ass.

I guess that's true. I've got a collection I need to rebuild. I lost everything when I woke up here, arms included. Truly a tragic day.

[It's good to hear Taako laugh. That's like, a third of the reason he continues to say dumb shit. If his friends are laughing, he knows he's doing good.]

Whoa, whoa. You don't have to walk me. I can walk myself! If I really want some interstellar exercise, I'll get that extremely ripped god guy to throw me again.

And I don't need you and Thor getting int-- [Taako screeches to an abrupt halt as what Magnus said sinks in.] Wait.

[Did he just say--]

Again? You got thrown by the god of thunder and you didn't call me to watch?

[Hey look Magnus you found the room's owner! In fact, the room's owner will also be finding Magnus soon, but first he's gotta yell at him over the network for a bit. Because seriously Magnus why did you do this]

Do you have any idea what I had to go through to get that place upgraded?! What is WRONG with you?!

[Magnus can't help being as dumb as he is tall. He looks puzzled and a little put out by the admonishments.]

Sorry? Look, it's not my fault your obstacles aren't obstacles, kiddo. You should've asked for help shoring them up. Luckily, I can help with that!
