A cry for help
[a distress call has been tracked across the void, finally leading back to the source. a hulking crippled ship, teeming with hostile alien life, now lies before you.
what do you do? do you dive in or hang back? are you here to learn, play, build, or observe?
however you choose to proceed, your audience is out there somewhere, watching.]
ooc: here is a good ol' themed mingle to get you all started! and don't feel limited by the prompts and what they describe--they're just there as idea-starters, so feel free to go anywhere and do anything.
have fun!

[Did someone say food? Because here's a feast (and a tiny mage). He has a table set up with refreshments, because a mage is always prepared. There's water, tea, conjured coffee, and platters of food. There's sandwiches, various fruit tarts, and warm cookies.
Belthazar may or may not notice anyone partaking; he's more interested in a book on some otherworldly magic. Of course.]
[B.]
[Who needs a group? Probably this guy. Thankfully, he isn't far. He's tossing every kind of arcane spell he can think of at the space bugs, followed by ice and fire, just to see what happens. He keeps their attacks at bay with a shield made of ice but it isn't forever.
A bug breaks through. It raises a claw to slice him-- and he blinks out of existence, reappearing about fifteen yards away.]
Why aren't you dying!?
A (and maybe B later? So torn...)
Jinx was starving. The act of phasing burned calories faster than she remembered - possibly because she had a limited supply of candy in this god-awful sweets-less place. Whatever it was, she's scarfing down that fruit as fast as she can get some in her mouth.
Coffee and cookies quickly follow.]
no subject
Don't forget to chew.
no subject
Sup, dude. Thanks for the grub. This is awesome.]
no subject
He's not really going to bother her or try for conversation, though. Sorry. He's just-- you know. Antisocial.]
no subject
Shell just pick up another cookie and start eating it when she tries to read over his shoulder.
She's nosy like that.]
no subject
Excuse you.
no subject
What the hell. You want a cookie?]
A
he's a little wary at first, because... goodness, he hasn't seen food like this in weeks. and he is suspecting some worrying things about this ship, so he's cautious. he mostly settles his worries by picking up a few samples of the offerings there, and giving each a good sniff. and then a careful taste.
once he has deemed it all safe, however, he will just hang around and very casually eat a little bit of everything. he might wander back and forth a few times, but he continues to steal more from the table on every pass.
his stomach may be bottomless.]
OMG A TEK!!
Now, Belth isn't starving anymore, so he's not going to go pouncing. But. It's distracting. He keeps forgetting where he is in his book, so he settles for just-- staring at Tek each time he comes by.
The man is truly bottomless, but when he's putting out that much energy? It makes sense. Finally, Belth decides to say something.]
What are you?
[... Points for being up front about it.]
no subject
and maybe it's their current surroundings, but Tek doesn't interpret the question in the way that the elf means it. sure, he's been bluntly asked it often enough, but lately people have been more concerned about rank and augment.
so...]
A captain. Of the Pathstone, to be specific.
no subject
That isn't what I meant. You are-- you aren't human. At least, not the kind of human I am accustomed to.
[It's making him twitchy.]
no subject
[and just like that, the energy breathes back into him, held a little closer so it's not just lazily bleeding out everywhere. and his smile fades along with it.]
And neither are you, clearly, so what does it matter?
no subject
[He shows off a little. Nothing fancy, just a ball of arcane energy, purple and small and contained.]
I want to know everything there is to know about the arcane, so I can't ignore someone walking by when they are teeming with it.
no subject
it all adds up to a little bit of the automatic, defensive tension easing out of Tek's shoulders. still on edge, but not quite as annoyed as he might have been.]
I see. ...Does that make you a mage, then?
no subject
Yes, specifically an arcanist. I've been studying magic since my elementary years-- and that was a very long time ago, despite appearances. [Elves.] I'm training to be a magister.
And before you ask, I do not make deals with demons. Apparently that is something mages do on other worlds. On Azeroth we call those warlocks, and they're disgusting.
no subject
Yes, you study magic. And by that token, I imagine that you study magical things.
And in my experience, when those subjects of study happen to be living, they don't tend to fare well at the hands of their researchers. So, I hope you can understand my concern.
no subject
Oh. No, I-- I am not that kind of researcher. I do not dissect things. Spells and enchantments and items, yes, but not... living things. It isn't necessary for what I do and I dislike animals anyway. They think I am some kind of meal ticket and then they won't leave, and the next thing I know, I am cleaning pet dander out of every crevice of my room... [He says this having given FREE FOOD TO THE WHOLE FLEET.]
Anyway, the most magical of creatures are also the most intelligent-- more than most humans, I suspect-- and they are either sacred guardians or immortal enemies. It is best not to disturb them.
I'M SORRY I'M SO SLOW I haven't forgotten about this
And components? Shall I believe that you never touch materials gleaned from magical creatures?
I'm slower HAHA
