1st Blight - Video and action
Who: Riona
Broadcast: The entire network
Action: On the SS Blue Fish
When: After the weekly shuffle
Action on the Blue Fish
[You've got an armored lady on board, Blue Fishies. Unarmed, of course, but that makes her all the warier as she glances around uneasily. Too much of this is foreign to her. The fact that there's something in her head telling her what some of it is makes it worse. Like the taint in her telling her when darkspawn were near, but much more potent and a lot more invasive. So having the armor on may seem unnecessary, but it's all she has and it makes her feel a little safer. Much like a child clinging to a stuffed animal. A metal one that could break a jaw.
She moves over to the food set out, scrunching her nose at it. Maker, none of it looks right. Not that Fereldan food was the be all and end all of fine cuisine, but at least there were recognizable ingredients in it. This was... not food.
Her upbringing obliged her to at least take some and try it. Though she was relatively sure that her lessons didn't account for being kidnapped and offered not-food to her...]
Video
[So after settling in and having had time to take stock, Riona finally feels comfortable in attempting this messaging thing. With any luck, someone else from Ferelden - or Thedas even - got brought here as well and could perhaps explain a bit more what was going on.
Or, honestly, just conversing with someone else from her world would be a relief at this rate.]
Assuming this isn't the worst drunken stupor or dream in history - and I'm still not entirely certain it isn't - I understand I am to be here for some time. And that I am to work on this ship [The word is said with a hint of skepticism. Ships float on water, not fly.] in that interim.
Maker's breath.
[She heaves a sigh.] Okay, fine. Well, no, it's not fine but it seems I have little recourse in that regard right now. I mean, did you really have to take my sword and shield? I don't use it willy-nilly.
Anyway, is there... truly no way to send word back to our homes? Not even a message? [Her next words are considered carefully.] My absence will be noted very quickly, and likely would cause a panic amongst certain parties. I only wish to avoid that. [And stop her husband from launching a huge search campaign for her.] Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you kindly. [She forces a polite smile before she fumbles with the device, finally getting it to shut off after a moment's struggle.]

Ah... hello? Can I help you?
[Her tone is warm, not at all accusatory.]

Blinking, she turns around and finds her there. She straightens up instinctively, grateful that the woman seems to be kind and not assuming she's intruding or somesuch.]
Ah, perhaps. I was just assigned to this ship today. As a communications officer. [She says the title slowly; it's foreign to her and doesn't quite make sense.] I was just brought here and I wasn't given any instruction or indication as to where to go or with whom to speak.
no subject
They have a tendency to do that to you. I'm sorry none of us were around to greet you.
[She sticks out a hand for the other woman to shake. Provided that's how they do things in her world anyway.]
I'm Dr. Beverly Crusher, one of the medics on board.

For what it is worth, you need not fear anyone causing panic at home - time seemingly halts once one is brought here. It is... [ she furrows her brows. ] A bit complicated, but it is the most assurance I can offer.
video;
However, the next part? That surprises her. She lifts her eyebrows in surprise, understandably a bit skeptical about what she was just told. Even as much as she wants to believe it.]
Time just... stops? Is it some kind of magic? How do you know that?
[Normally she would try not to barrage someone with questions, but this is too important to her to stand on politeness.]

Many have informed me, and I myself witnessed it once already. I had been brought here previously, nearly a year ago, and when I was somehow returned home - everything was as it had been when I left.
As you can see, they were insistent on bringing me back, and I can only assume time once again remains unchanged back home.

Ah...hello?

She turned to greet Allen, her posture a little stiff, and her expression wary. Still, she tries to remain polite.]
Hello. I apologize if I shouldn't be back here, but I was just transferred to this ship and I wasn't sure where to go. Are you a member of its crew?
no subject
Ah- don't worry, you're fine. The kitchen is open to any of the crew.
[But that's right, it was shuffle day wasn't it? He hadn't checked the roster yet]
But yes, I'm part of the crew. I'm Allen, the first mate. What's your name?

Oh, hey!
[ katara pauses with a smile, lingering in the doorway and lifting one hand in greeting. ]
Welcome to the Blue Fish?
[ assuming, of course, she's the new shipmate and not a visitor. ]
no subject
Damn, we need one of these back home.
[She straightened quickly when she heard Katara's voice, whirling around to see who had jut come in. It took but a brief moment for her to get her thoughts back on track before she returned Katara's wave.]
Hello. And ah, yes, apparently. Thank you. They just deposited me here a moment ago. I take it you're one of the crew?

You are from Thedas.

I am. And so are you, I take it. As awful as it probably sounds, I'm a little relieved I'm not the only Theodasian here. Where in Thedas are you from?

I know, it kinda sucks, but until we get a cook on board, it's the best we can do.
[He offers a hand. ]
Hey, welcome to the Blue Fish.
spam awayyyy
Is it actually edible? It really doesn't look it.
[She takes his hand and shakes it.]
Thank you. I just arrived. Apparently I'm a communications officer?

So! Helping:]
It could always become a good drunken stupor, you know. I find it helps more than you'd expect with the whole "trapped in the empty void of space" thing!
[Helping!!]
video
I have to admit, that does sound like a good idea right now. But I'm lacking in alcohol and I doubt my new crew would appreciate me raiding the liquor stores so soon, especially personal ones.
...I don't suppose our host is kind enough to have a tavern on one of these ships where we can go to drown our sorrows and contemplate what in Andraste's name we're doing here?

There isn't a way to send anything back home. Believe me, I've tried. You might as well just take off your shoes and find a way to thrive. [He leans forward.] What's your name?
video;
But as soon as he mentions the Maker, she knows he's as Thedosian as she is.]
I don't know. The Maker has a sick sense of humor sometimes.
[She half-smiles at her terrible joke.]
Well, I've gotten that first bit down just fine. The thriving might be a bit trickier. I feel like I'm stuck in an oversized helmet.
Riona Cousland. And what might yours be, sir?

You're out of luck; you're not drunk and you can't comm home. I've tried before, but nothing goes out and nothing comes in. Being in a whole different universe might have something to do with that.

So I'm starting to understand. [She frowns.] A different universe?
