WHO Chris Halliwell
BROADCAST Network unfiltered video.
ACTION The SS Huntress.
WHEN Shortly after the Shuffle.
Again?
[ This is a young man circling around as he's transported to his new ship, the SS Huntress. He's mostly talking to his new crewmates but there's that unknowing broadcast going out, too. ]
Moved around twice in twenty-four hours, and this one is not nearly as nice as the first one. We're supposed to stay here while we play this stupid game? [ Psht. ] Which, by the way, I didn't sign up for. Did anyone? Because I was in the middle of something, you know, important.

Are you all right? It is a bit much.
no subject
Thanks, little lady. Just lost my balance.
[He smiles disarmingly.]
Varric. Varric Tethras. And you are?
no subject
My name is Shirley. I'd say it's a pleasure to meet you, but under these circumstances I don't think I would be completely honest if I did.
no subject
Honesty is overrated. That's why no one likes the guys who did this. They just up and told us they did it, and now we can't help but hate them. The least they could do is pretend someone else did it, and make up some stuff about how they'll help us get home if we do something for them.
Nope. Too late.
no subject
No, I think it's still better to tell us the truth. If they lied and we found out, then surely things would be even worse. And I think something like that would be found out, sooner or later.
[Shirley is a strong believer in the merits of honesty.]

I can see where you're coming from, but that doesn't make anything better. The world doesn't run on honesty. Thank the Maker... if it did, I'd be broke.
[He scratches at his cheek.]
Anyway. According to this... whatever they shoved in my head, I'm head of security. If anything bad steps on this ship, you let me know. All right?
no subject
Yes, I understand. I'm supposed to work in the lab...although I've never done so before.
[Should have taken lessons from Alcott. Or maybe they should have taken him instead--no wait, that's a bad idea, she wouldn't wish this situation on anybody. A good understanding of medicine sure would be useful right now, though.]

[Maker help us all.]
no subject
[Then again.]
Maybe that's the point, if our purpose here is to entertain others.

I'll... try not to get shot, then. No offense.
If I get a scrape on my knee or something though, I'll let you know.

[Shirley starts casting a Cure spell as if to demonstrate - the glowing fingernails are a big sign.]
I may not be good with making medicines right now, but I can use healing eres just fine.

A mage. Great. One question. Are you currently... [He counts on his fingers.] ... fleeing from templars, possessed by a spirit, or making deals with demons?
I just like to be prepared.
no subject
I...
[She's about to answer with something vague like "You don't have to worry about that," but then she realizes that's the sort of thing her old self would do and then regret. So, hard way it is - with a little softening.]
I have a special connection to the sea, but out here it won't matter. We're too far away.
no subject
That's not bad at all. You're fine, then. [A pause. He feels bad, so he tries to make a joke.] I never learned how to swim, so uh... don't throw me in, okay?
no subject
Of course not. I can even teach you if you'd like, if we're ever around some water.
no subject
I'm not sure you can handle seeing a mostly naked dwarf. Also, I hate doing anything that remotely resembles travel. Or effort.
[The last part isn't entirely true, and he gives her a little wink.]
You're a good kid.
no subject
Well, if you ever do want to learn I'll still be willing to help.
