[ This is a young man circling around as he's transported to his new ship, the SS Huntress. He's mostly talking to his new crewmates but there's that unknowing broadcast going out, too. ]

Moved around twice in twenty-four hours, and this one is not nearly as nice as the first one. We're supposed to stay here while we play this stupid game? [ Psht. ] Which, by the way, I didn't sign up for. Did anyone? Because I was in the middle of something, you know, important.

I think I can use it to prepare medicines or give treatment, but I know people who would be much better at it than I am.

Maybe that's the point, if our purpose here is to entertain others.

[Shirley starts casting a Cure spell as if to demonstrate - the glowing fingernails are a big sign.]

I may not be good with making medicines right now, but I can use healing eres just fine.

[He shuffles over a step. Respectfully.]

A mage. Great. One question. Are you currently... [He counts on his fingers.] ... fleeing from templars, possessed by a spirit, or making deals with demons?

I just like to be prepared.

[On a scale of one to ten, how weird is it to tell a stranger/future shipmate that you're the mouthpiece of the ocean? Probably on the higher end. The fact that Varric shys away from her eres deflates her a little too. Even the Orerines who feared the Ferines were comfortable with the use of eres, but nobody here even knows of them. Is he going to be afraid of her now?]

[She's about to answer with something vague like "You don't have to worry about that," but then she realizes that's the sort of thing her old self would do and then regret. So, hard way it is - with a little softening.]

I have a special connection to the sea, but out here it won't matter. We're too far away.

[Thankfully, Varric takes it well. He eases up a bit, even takes up the space he formerly vacated.]

That's not bad at all. You're fine, then. [A pause. He feels bad, so he tries to make a joke.] I never learned how to swim, so uh... don't throw me in, okay?

[That...went better than she was expecting. Shirley brightens up, laughing at the joke out of relief more than real humor.]

Of course not. I can even teach you if you'd like, if we're ever around some water.

[... He isn't expecting her to actually take him up on that. He rubs the back of his head and looks away, strangely diffident all of a sudden.]

I'm not sure you can handle seeing a mostly naked dwarf. Also, I hate doing anything that remotely resembles travel. Or effort.

[The last part isn't entirely true, and he gives her a little wink.]
