Captain's Log 04 - Waking Dreams
Who: Jim Kirk & You
Broadcast: Yes
Action: Yes, on the Tourist
When: Now (that is, Friday)
[ It's a strange feeling, waking up and staring at a ceiling that he instinctively knows is on a ship. He hasn't looked at one of those in awhile, mostly because his ship was still being built. He had been able to tour some parts of her, but she was far from complete, and certainly nowhere near ready for him to move into. So why? Why was there something familiar about this ceiling? He had seen it before, he was sure, nagging at the back of his mind -
The Fleet.
It struck him like a slap, making him gasp, and he sat up sharply, looking down at himself, wrapped in his survival suit of all things. He touched the raised silver crest of Star Fleet, trying to wrap his mind around the notion he was back on the Tourist. How long had it been? Almost three years? He had just celebrated his birthday, so, yes, three years...
Looking around he located the communicator, flipping it open, remembering the motions easily enough as he keyed up the video and looked in. It's to late by the time he realizes that he has a crown settled into his somewhat fluffier hair and a bright red lipstick mark on his cheek. Who-? Well, whatever, everyone will just get to see him attempt to rub the lipstick off as he speaks, crown, for the moment, remaining where it was. ]
Uh - hello everyone. I'm not sure how much time as passed here, so I suppose I should start with introductions. My name is Captain James Tiberius Kirk, U.S.S. Enterprise, though feel free to call me Jim. I was here once before, but I suppose at some point I got sent home.
It's been three years for me. So, if possible, I wouldn't mind a roll call of who all is here - and exactly how much time has passed for you all.
Kirk, out.
[ He turns off the communicator and gets up slowly, stretching, making his way for the kitchen and wondering if that cantankerous coffee machine was still here and functioning, and if it had been tamed. He hoped so. He desperately needed coffee. Maybe something more too. Yes, definitely something more.
Irish coffee it was Or as close as he could get it. ]

Video
I was gone for ten years, but apparently, it was only a week here. Funny how that goes, hmm?
How are you feeling, Jim? Are you okay?
[He was, after all, a healer first and foremost.]
Video
Ten?
[ The word is practically squawked, because - wow. ]
I'm got a crick in my neck, but other than that I feel all right. What about you? Sounds like you have more of a shock than me.
Video
Ah, well that'll go away with time. Try rolling your neck to stretch it out.
[He hesitates a little, but doesn't lose his softer expression.]
As for me, I suppose you could say that. A lot changed. [He shrugs.] But there's not much to do about it now. What happened in your three years? Find any exciting new planets in your adventures?
Video
[ He grins and rolls his neck, wincing as a sharp crack sounds from his bones popping. ]
Oh, a few. Some more friendly than others. But that's the universe, right?
Video
Oh, thirty? You're practically still in diapers, Jim, I'm astonished.
[Anders winces sympathetically as well, but doesn't lose that small smile. At least that probably meant Kirk's neck would be feeling better.]
I'm finding that one out, yes.
Would you like to get a drink? I can't imagine sitting around sounds all that appealing when you've been lying still for so long.
[He's partially surprised the words come out of his mouth at all, he hasn't asked anyone out for a drink in an age. Or a few weeks, depending on how it was looked at.
But Jim didn't need to know that. Anders was willing to bet a little company might help when Kirk was sure to be missing the people he'd left behind even more now.]
Re: Video
I'm still baby smooth, at least.
[ Anders can decide how to take that, but it was more reflexive than it was meant to be a serious flirtation. ]
No, no it does not. So yeah, a drink sounds great. I heard we're still around that trio of planets - so let's say Moxie?
Video
[There was nothing wrong with a bit of playful flirting. That certainly hadn't changed.]
Moxie would be great. Hawke showed me a place that would be good, I'll meet you there.
Video
[ He chuckled, enjoying the easiness of it. ]
Sure thing. Do you want to meet me at the dock then and show me the way? Moxie is... orange, right?
Video
Yeah...or red? Hawke wears red, I think it's a range honestly.
Either way, I'll meet you there, Captain.
Re: Video
Right. Give me about thirty minutes? Just to sort of get my feet back under me.
[ Shake off the cobwebs, so to speak. A cup of coffee when a long way towards that, and soon enough he was descending to the planet. It felt weird, being on planet produced gravity rather than the artificial kind on the ships and the space station. He squinted, looking around for Anders, decked out his survival suit still, an orange wrap around his wrist. ]
Video
[He definitely couldn't blame him, if anything, he was surprised it was only a half hour and not like a couple hours. But it was Kirk's decision, he wouldn't argue.
He waved to Kirk as he approached, the only red on him was a red cloth tied to his wrist, otherwise he simply wore his usual robes.]
I'm not part of Moxie, I don't have much red myself. [And he couldn't barrow Hawke's clothes, they were too broad in the shoulder and chest and too short in the arms, their physical build was too different.]
This tie was all I had, it'll have to do.
Are you feeling better? More human, at least?
Re: Video
[ If he let himself take longer, he though the might not get up at all that day. And he wasn't one for sitting around. It was shocking to be back, but he wasn't precisely gone at a critical time now either. It felt easier to accept, and would become easier the more he moved. He spotted Anders coming to him and raised his hand in hello, giving a warm smile to see his friend. ]
We'll see how I feel once this ache in my neck goes away. Who knew sleeping for two weeks could cause neck cramps, huh?
no subject
[He moved closer, curling his hand behind Kirk's neck as it glowed a soft blue and left warmth in Jim's neck. The healing magic reached in and loosened the muscles like a fast and effective massage and ran through the rest of the man's body while it was there in case there was anything else.]
Better?
no subject
[ Kirk blinked and didn't get a chance to protest before the other's hand was on him. He didn't really mind, though he was curious to what the other was doing. Then the warmth of loosened muscles hit and he audibly groaned, lashes fluttering, a soft pink tint flowing over his cheeks. ]
Oh, hell, yes, fantastic even.
no subject
Excellent! Knowing a healer does have it's perks, you know.
It's like magic. [He casts a side-glance to Kirk for his dumb joke and then jerked a thumb over his shoulder.]
Shall we continue? It isn't all that far away.
no subject
[ He looks back and he laughs, getting the joke and knocks him with his shoulder a bit. ]
Thank god, because I'm not sure I can walk far after what you just did to me. Be prepared to catch me, I might swoon.
no subject
[His grin turned a touch brighter, more amused and genuine with the bump and the comment but he keeps his face turned away.
Ah, but now to change the subject because that was what he was good at.]
Where was that bar...ah, yes, this way.
[He led them down a side street and onto another major road and gestured to the sign at the end of the road.]
There it is. 'Three Sheets' creative.
Do they have strong alcohol in space? It seems to me that might go against some kind of regulation somewhere.
no subject
[ Well, wasn't that a promising name. He certainly hoped that it would live up its word, otherwise he might demand his money back. At the other's question, though, he burst into a big belly laugh. ]
Oh man-! Is there ever! Different races have different tolerances, so what's strong for one might not be strong for another. Romulan Ale, for instance, isn't that bad for Romulans, but it'll knock a human flat on their ass after one glass.
no subject
Wow. And we don't have any on the fleet? That's an utter shame.
[Considering the spirit of Justice residing in Anders was bent on making sure Anders never had the pleasure of losing his wits to alcohol again, he wouldn't mind giving this Romulan Ale a try.
As soon as they got to the bar, he held the door open for his friend, letting out the warmth and thick smell of booze and upbeat music that was often found in Moxie establishments.]
no subject
[ They were on okay terms, but there had been wars in the past, and it hadn't been that long ago that a Romulan, however temporally displaced, had destroyed an entire world.
He bowed to him in thanks along with a cheeky little grin and trotted inside, his head instantly beginning to rock slightly to the beat of the music. He looked to Anders, a curious cant to his brows. ]
Are you a dancer, Anders?
no subject
[Anders takes in the sights of the bar and he has to admit the music definitely has a nice rhythm to it, even if it was definitely nothing like what he was used to.
His own brow arched up with a smirk.]
But if you're asking me to dance, I'm afraid I might not know the kinds of dances you do. You and your...'space-dances.'
no subject
Our dancing has to be much easier than yours by a long shot. You just move yourself to the beat - there's no steps to learn. You just feel it.
[ He held out his hand to the other. ]
Come on. A little sweat before you drink makes it tastes sweeter.
no subject
[But, watching the small movements Kirk had made when they'd first heard the music, Anders thought he understood. It was about keeping the rhythm, something he had been good at, once. Probably still.]
Alright, then, but if I make an ass of myself, I'm blaming you.
[Despite his words, a grin spread across his face as he took Kirk's hand.]
no subject
Trust me, I won't let you. It's actually pretty hard, so I think you'll do just fine.
[ He went out to the dance floor and took up a spot, swaying his body to the music. He was no professional dancer by any means, but he could keep the rhythm and a beat. He looked to Anders and motioned for him to follow his lead. ]
Don't think, just move!
no subject
Don't think, just move. Right.
He mimicked Jim's movements to start until he found the beat of the music himself and his movements started to come easier, more naturally. Maybe he understood what Kirk was talking about after all.
A smile grew over his face and into his eyes as he looked back to his friend.]
I see what you mean. There's certainly a lot fewer rules for this type of dancing.
