[ Welcome to your regularly scheduled insanity, Elize! The ship is nice and rather upgraded, not to mention Shirley's valiant efforts to make it a bit more homey. With two demons, a fish-person prophet of the ocean, a former Templar and... Isabela, the crew is rather lively but somehow hasn't torn itself apart. Yet.

With all the things going on this month, a casino with great prizes and a magical forest, there's plenty of buzz and movement. But what is everyone up to during the downtime? ]

[Shirley hasn't been expecting the approach, but she's not about to turn Chris down. The feeling is mutual, really - nothing against the other members of the ship, but being shoved in a ship at the same time does tend to bring people together.]

Yes, of course. Do you want to have a seat?

[ Especially when they were the first ones there. Chris shrugs at the question and does indeed sit himself down. ]

So... How have you been doing lately?

I've been fine. It's been a good month for me, and things are certainly better than they were early last month. What about you?

[Doing better than surprise attacks isn't hard, but...while Shirley's quiet, she's still a little less enthusiastic than usual.]

[ That gets a near-surprised laugh out of him. He's not done prodding yet, but he'll get back to it. ]

All things considered... I guess I can't complain. You probably saw and even if you haven't — Dad somehow earned my grandad's soul from the casinos, so that's a... plus? We'll go with a plus.

[ He really, really doesn't want to talk about the mess with Piper right now. ]

Well, I certainly heard it. That was...strange.

[She's still not entirely sure what that was all about, and is even less sure that she wants to know.]

[ If she doesn't ask for more details, Chris isn't really going to put them on her. No one really needs to be inundated in Turner family drama because boy does that get fun. ]

Yeah, it's definitely something. Kind of worrying, but this whole thing is. Anyway. Is everything... all right? Like, actually all right.

What do you mean by that?

[That's a little too insistent to be just a simple check-in.]

[ He's bad at this. He's never considered himself anything but bad at this sort of thing, but some things deserve the effort anyway. That doesn't mean he won't cut to the chase given the opportunity. ]

Did something happen? You've been acting kind of down lately.

Oh.

[Shirley hadn't noticed that specifically about herself, but she...wouldn't be surprised if it showed, really.]

I've been thinking about my home, that's all. It's nothing you should have to worry about.

[misconceived]

[ His brows go up and he kind of tilts his head in understanding. ]

Should, maybe not. But... I want to. It wasn't the casinos, was it?

[ Did Shirley win something, too? ]

No, it wasn't that.

[She hasn't had much luck with the casinos to begin with, frankly, but that's fine with her. Ongoing fears, less so. She hesitates when Chris asks, but...well, she trusts him.]

I've been gone from home nearly six months now. They'll have noticed my disappearance soon after I was taken, and I'm very important to the Ferines. I'm afraid that it will cause a lot of trouble.

[ Chris takes a deep breath. He understands that concern, fights with it every day, but it seems he knows something Shirley doesn't. Or at least something she doesn't want to believe in. ]

I get how you feel. If... time is still moving back home, I've miss a ridiculously important deadline myself. But... when Dad got here—I don't think time is moving. At least not the regular way? He showed up a few weeks after I did, but he was from exactly the same time as when I'd been pulled here, too.

[News to her. But if it's true...]

I'd be very happy if that were the case. But how?

Yeah. We were... in the middle of an argument at the time, it's kind of hard to forget.

[ Which eventually ended up with him grounded but Chris is definitely not mentioning that. ]

How what? How did they do any of this? Maybe we're just on some kind of time-altered plane. It's hard to say. All I know is what I know.

They did have to do something extraordinary to get us here in the first place.

[She doesn't sound quite so bothered now, just confused. She hasn't felt this uninformed since the time everyone found out they were fighting a goddess.]

Magic, science, miracle, whatever it was... there's a really good chance we're not going to get home exactly like we're hoping. No matter what that is.

[ He shrugs. It bothers him, but not in the way of other, more important things. There's a priority system he's got going on here and surprisingly, the time in which he gets home is kind of low on it. ]

Yeah. But if nobody at home will panic because of it...I still want to go home, but at least I wouldn't have to worry about that.

[ Chris nods. ]

Yeah, exactly. It's like... if we know that, now we've got all the time we want to be entertaining until we can go home happy as clams.

I wouldn't say that. I still don't feel very entertaining, besides.

Well, then you're probably the luckiest one here. It means they aren't trying to make your life hell.

They'd have to threaten my home to do that. I've been through worse than this.

[That's not supposed to tempt fate, but...]

Still, you've either got the long end of the stick or the short one. You meet our newest member yet? [ that was a great segue what are you talking about ]

Newest member? Do you mean Elize?

[Shirley brightens a little. She likes Elize.]

Yeah, Elize.

[ She's adorable and it's hard not to be affected, even as awkward as Chris is around kids. Or... people... ]

She's kind of young to be here, don't you think?

She is. I don't think I've seen anyone her age here before.

[Not so good. But unfortunately not out of line for Atroma, either.]

Has she been having problems?
