[hey, it's Robin. he's lounging around in his captain's chair, feet up on the control panel. he's twirling something around in his fingers--it looks kind of like a glow stick? it's a glass cylinder filled with some sort of glowing, red liquid.]

Back in those casino stations, I won one of these.

[he stops twirling the cylinder. when he holds it up closer to the camera, you can see that it's capped with silver on one end. the insides seem to be bubbling a little, as if the liquid is carbonated.]

This is a Luxilizer... though most people below the surface just called them Dummy Sticks, as in, you were an idiot if you walked around the lower levels without them. They're filled with a liquid extracted from a luminescent fungus that grows in the caves of my hometown.

[he twirls it again. Robin himself doesn't seem particularly delighted about the thing, he's just casually explaining, perhaps out of boredom.]

They were originally designed as a backup light source, in case a person got lost in the tunnels. It also makes it easier for others to see them. It can get pretty dangerous down there, in the dark...

[after a pause, he grips the glowing tube and smiles at the camera.]

It's funny to me. No one where I'm from would give these a second thought, but I've learned that underground cities are not a familiar concept in most worlds.

Hm. [...he pauses. trying to think of something, but...] I guess. I'm not sure where to go with that.

While I am fully qualified for impromptu dance numbers... no.

[he sinks down into his chair a little more.]

Have I ever asked you where you're from? I keep running into you peripherally, but I'm having trouble recalling if any proper conversations have happened with me in my right mind.

[he did hit on him once. a lot. but that doesn't count.]

[Crowley gives a soft, amused 'heh'.]

You have had moments like that a lot. I'm from a planet called Earth. Or rather, that's where I have been stationed for the last six thousand years.

Oh.

[it's a surprised "oh". the kind that only comes out when you don't want it to--as evidenced by a lengthy pause afterwards. he knows that Crowley isn't human, figured he was older than he looked, but six thousand? he... never meets anyone who's lived longer than he has.

correction: he's met everyone older than he is, but they've all grown so massive, formless, and sluggish that he would barely consider them sentient beings anymore. so this is...

turning into a rather uncomfortably long silence, sorry.]

[That...is a really long and uncomfortable silence, and after a while of it, Crowley taps on the communicator. ]

Are you having a stroke? Because you should probably find a medical person for that.

Nope. [oh, good. Robin's alive.] Still here.

[he blinks out of it. shoves whatever he's feeling down somewhere where he can pick it apart later.]

Sorry about that. I was doing math. That's only about four-thousand and five-hundred years, where I'm from. [ah, there's a smile. everything's back on.] You look good, for an old man.

[Crowley makes a Face. ]

I'm not old, I'm well seasoned. There's a vast difference.

Is there?

[he smiles. pleasantly.]

Of course there is. Mortals get old.

I see. [though, judging by his tone, he may just be teasing him.]

And you were somewhere else before Earth?

Oh, piss off, Robin.

...Yeah, I work for Hell, so I was there for a while. Before that, Heaven. I got... kicked out.

[his only response to the insult is to cackle, delightedly.]

Oh boy. So this is an... Angels and demons thing? I'm sorry to dumb down what I'm sure is an important subject, but the whole thing is very foreign to me.

[he's tried to understand this "Catholicism" thing. but sometimes it's "Christianity"? but there's also like six other religions he's found that talk about similar things? but then they're also real people, or monsters, or creatures, or whatever, so sometimes religion doesn't even factor into it?? he doesn't know. from an outsider's perspective, demons are confusing.]

...Yeah, that cackle is very comforting. And yes it is. Because that's what I am.

Demon, all right. [despite his early comment, he looks interested, at least!] You're much more solid than the last one I met. I wonder if that's a world difference...

I'm inhabiting a body, that's how I keep a corporeal form, otherwise, yeah, I'm a lot less solid.

Oooooh. [this is a delight. he loves learning about new people. even if he's... technically known Crowley for half a year.] You know what? They did keep trying to get me to let them possess my body for an indeterminate amount of time.

I assumed it was for evil, of course, but they were quite polite about it. Charming, really.

Some demons do that. Honestly, it's too much of a bloody hassle. Having to share a body. The different people inside it just talk over one another.

[He gives a nonchalant shrug. ] Most of the ones I know wouldn't know charming if it bit them on the arse.

Hah... Well, then I'm glad to have met the couple of exceptions.

[which was a roundabout way of calling Crowley "charming", probably.]

That's interesting. There's nothing like you where I'm from, there's just "monsters". [which he says with firm air quotes, because that term tends to offend most magical creatures.] And very few of those are capable of human speech. Or not eating people.
