I don't know how many of us have all been through this ship so far, but it looks as though there's still a lot of it in working order. Or it could be in working order, if we were to put forth the effort to get it that way. I think if enough of us were to work together, we might be able to see to at least turning some lights on, if not getting the thing running properly again.

The bugs are dangerous, of course, so if there are any security officers who could spare the time to come with us engineers when the time comes, I'm sure we'd all appreciate a little extra fire power. I suppose you could say this is less of a call to arms and more of a call to discussing who is willing to come along and repair a very strange alien ship. So... who's with me?

[There's a pause after that, and it could be because the audio has ended just there, until...]

And if anyone has seen a slightly grumpy bald elf, could you send him my direction?

[Cole turns up in his usual manner, seeming to slide from the shadows or something equally unknowable, appearing at her elbow.]

I can come. I can't hide a large group, though. I can hide me and another person at most. But my knives take them apart well.

And I haven't seen Solas.

[He touches her elbow and his gaze goes slightly distant, trying to feel out where Solas is.]

Mm... can't find him. Not in range. But he should be. Maybe he went into the ship.

Almost all of it in working order, just needs a couple of adjustments. I'll help.

[Cullen's tired of bugs. Better than demons and darkspawn, but still. Gross. He listens to Jove quietly. It should probably be implied, yet it says it anyway.]

I will go with you.

[That last part, though...]

You haven't heard from Solas?

[There are times when her experience being the Inquisitor are beneficial in ways that Jove doesn't necessarily expect and one of those times is certainly when she's upset or frustrated or unsure, but she can't show it. Before she settled into the role she wore her feelings on her sleeve, but that's hardly something she can do when the entire world is watching her every move.

So she learned to hide things, to put them behind a mask. With Cole, with his hand on her elbow, that masks cracks.]

Maybe. [Her tone is even, but for Cole it won't be hard to tell she's anything but centered.] We might find him there. Would you like to go with me?

Wonderful, I get the feeling we'll need as many hands as we can get.

I don't think I recognize your voice, though. My name is Jove.

I'm Jim. I got here two weeks ago. How long've you been here, Jove?

You're not planning on using that ship, are you? Aren't we still trying to figure out what caused it to get in such a state in the first place?

[THIS SEEMS LIKE THE PREMISE FOR A HORROR MOVIE.]

[Cole cants his head, looking out form under his hat at her with a small frown.]

Why are you worried? Solas, not here, not in range, did he go in there alone, he shouldn't do that, it isn't safe- He'll be okay in there. Solas is- he can protect himself from them.

[He nods slightly and drops his hand from her.] I should go look. I can be hidden, move fast, try and sense him. I could probably find him in a couple of hours.

[Definitely implied, but she appreciates the confirmation.]

I never doubted you for a second.

[And she glances away, lifting a hand up to rub the back of her neck. It's something she does when she's uncertain or upset.]

It's probably nothing. He has a habit of leaving and coming back.

That's step one, of course. Removing the bugs comes next, but it won't hurt to see who is willing and capable of trying to get the ship working.

But I get the sense you don't approve.

I think it's been about five months now. There are others who have been here longer, but as far as I know this is the first time we've come across something we could salvage and use for ourselves.

It's not that, not entirely. He was upset after the last planet and I just- I worry he'll want to leave again, like he did after those humans corrupted his friend.

[That's something she'll never forget, really. Solas and his rage and her allowing him to take his revenge on shemlen she probably should have allowed to let live. It's not something she regrets, but the way Solas had left them there with no way to know when he would return - if he would return - is what's got her on edge now.

He can't leave the ships entirely, she knows that just like she knows that if Solas were to find his way into the deepest, darkest section of the bug ship and go to sleep he'd have found a way to protect himself. She knows it, but it's still eating at her. She worries when she shouldn't.]

I'm probably just overthinking it, aren't I? Searching isn't necessary.

[She doesn't sound like she really believes that.]

...Are you talking about Solas? [ Although, he didn't seem grumpy when she met him. ]

And I'm with you, Jove!

[ But you're not security, Elize. ]

[Cole shivers at the mention. In his world, he'd been there, seen what had happened to Wisdom when exposed to the arrogance and selfishness. Had used his knives on the barriers to try and free her.

His hand clutched where the amulet had been pinned, before they realised it wouldn't work on him anymore.]

I'll look for him. I'll come back in a few hours, once I've found him.

[He's already fading again, ready to head back into the ship.]

I'm yours to command as you see fit.

[Said with a wry smile, but he means every word of it.]

You don't think he'd explore the ship on his own, do you?

I am. He's got a bit of a habit of disappearing, but- well. I do tend to worry.

[Elize's enthusiasm and support does lift her spirits, though. It's hard to stay mired down with worries when there's a cheerful little girl giving you her wholehearted support.]

Do you think you could draw some maps for us? That would be very helpful.

[She had been sure to destroy the barriers as well, unwilling to risk harming anyone Solas considered a friend. It had been the right thing to do, there had really been no other option.]

Alright. You know how to find me, I expect. And thank you, Cole.

[She hopes he's heard her before he's faded completely.]

[Ha ha, very funny. With a nod she reaches over to squeeze his arm briefly.]

I don't see any reason he wouldn't. He's a powerful mage and he told me once he's no stranger to using wards to keep giant spiders away, this seems like it would be no different.

[And yet she's still got that little line between her eyebrows that forms when she can't stop frowning.]

[Cole hunts Jove down after some four or five hours. It's longer than he thought he'd be, but not long enough to find what he was looking for.

He actually comes through the door, because he's tired, genuinely worn out and looking wan and pale from exerting himself too much.]

I can't find him! I went all over and I can't find him, Jove!

[ Five months? Well, crap. ]

The rest... they've been occupied, destroyed, or abandoned? With what frequency?

[There's a brief pause as he tries to sort out what he wants to say]

The bug creatures...the doctor on my ship has been researching them, and their neurological system- the system that determines a species's intelligence level? It's...far more complex than their current behaviours would suggest. It's different, but it's possibly on the same level as humans or elves in complexity. That means they should be sentient. So why are they acting like mindless drones? And then there's the part where the outside of the ship looks like a bug's cocoon....

How do we know the bugs creatures aren't the ones who sent out the distress signal?

[The very prospect of taking something apart from scrap has Hiccup super excited. He's already salvaged a little bit of scrap from the ship (shown by the metallic stuff surrounding him), but he could always use more.]

That sounds like a great idea and all, but do we-- do we know why it's abandoned? I'm a little concerned that if they come back for their stuff and see us digging into it, they'll be--

[A pause. A very. Long. Pause.]

Wait, what? There are elves in... space?

[She's going to switch over to video just for him. Just so she can give him a smile and make sure her pointy, pointy ears are perfectly in frame.

She'll get back to the points he's made, since they are good ones, things that need to be discussed fully before any real moves are made towards digging into the ship. First things are first, though.]

There are elves in space. It's not our natural habitat of course, not enough woods and flowers, but it seems that we thrive here just as well as humans do.

Oh, gods.

[Hiccup gapes. Sorry, this is the first time he's seen an elf. Elves aren't frequent visitors to Berk. Dragons, yes. Elves, no. He's embarrassed for sure, running his hand through his auburn hair and not entirely looking at the feed now.]

I... uh... wow. I look stupid. First thing from home I've seen and of course it's something-- someone-- that I wasn't sure even existed. Well then! If you tell me you have Odin here too, I'll have to consider eating my right foot.

Please don't give me a plague. I promise I'm unlucky enough as it is.

I will help. If nothing else, restoring power may allow us to access more of the ship's data and log files to help us gain a better understanding of what has happened here.
