Who: Pearl and you!
Broadcast: Text
Action: On the Vanquish or on the planet
When: Now

Just so we're all on the same page, Steven Universe has left.

[and that's that. The optimistic answer is that he gets to go home, but there's still this nagging idea that she had neglected her duty.

Vanquish:
Once there's nothing left to clean, Pearl's going to take apart this engine. Hopefully you weren't about to use the ship and/or shuttle, because it's currently scattered into a million pieces.

Planet, one of the parks:
Looks like Pearl is in a swordfight with a hologram version of herself. The exercise starts off slowly, as they take measured steps around each other and trade blows and parries. As they start speeding up, Pearl starts breaking out of the set pattern. Holo-Pearl matches her blow for blow, until Pearl does a quick spin and skewers her image from behind. The hologram flickers and then disappears, but Pearl doesn't look satisfied. She could use a better opponent.]

[Pearl has been poofed for a week! It's kinda like hitting the reset button, but with 500% more canon updating! Either way, we've all now lost the chance to sell Pearl for lots of money and then have her steal herself back.

The scene is pretty nondescript at first. Just the bridge of the ship, with a gem sitting on a pillow off to the side if you squint. If you wait long enough, the gem suddenly glows, levitating over to where there's a clear space. Light comes out of the rock, cycling through a few humanoid shapes before settling on a familiar one.]

Mmmf. [Pearl stretches almost luxuriously.] That wasn't too bad. Though for the life of me, I can't remember why -

[and then she's finally noticing her surroundings.] - I'm still here??

When: December 23rd, 5ish-8ish

It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas, or it would have been if they were on an Earth calendar. For their celebration and memory-making, Rogue had selected a middle sized room on the edge with two small windows by which an occasional view of the ice planet below could be seen. There would be very few who would be tempted to steal such a familiar view, however, since Rogue had enlisted Loki’s aid in making Christmas decorations and he provided illusions with alacrity and skill.

Do you see that, Flooters? Do you know what that is? That is a kitchen devoid of a cook, which is just about the saddest thing in the universe. Even sadder than a turtleduck with one leg. It's that sad.

SO! Does any cook here want to help out the Blue Fish? We have every single upgrade at your disposal if you want to come cook for us! We even have frozen meat and fish, hunted fresh by your handsome captain here.

On this moon, you'll find a civilization that looks a lot like one's stepped into a wild west movie, hardened cowpolk and mutant horses and all. Will you become a vigilante, hunting bounties and stopping gangs from doing their dirty work? Will you go exploring planetside, with a cowboy hat and a stalk of wheat in your mouth to complete the look? Good luck with that; there is no wheat. [The nebulas are beautiful in this region of space, at the very least. They gleam as great distorting clouds of space-stuff that your scanners don't even want to attempt to analyze. They affect the ships' instruments much like other areas of disruption have in the past, but these are actually visible as large swathes of light--like giant flames frozen in their swirling shapes, suspended across impressive stretches of space. For once, there's something like scenery to look at, out here in the black...

And then, the proximity alarms begin to blare.

From a gap between the two nearest clouds comes an assemblage of ships! Familiar to some and new to others--they do not respond to hails or communications of any kind, and they're gunning straight for the Fleet without slowing. Their weapons are locking on and firing as soon as they are in range.

Many passengers have been through this before, and many of the ships are bigger and better than they'd been in the previous skirmish. Today, the Drift Fleet will put up a better fight, even punch a few holes in their attackers.

Your augment knows where you need to go! Do you run to your station? Do you dodge your job? Are you unsure how to help? Are the captains giving orders or panicking, and are their crews paying attention? Everyone's got a chance to fight back before the enemy fleet runs them into the nearest nebula--and things suddenly take a bad turn.

As soon as each Drift Fleet ship hits the nebula, its systems overload and short-circuit before going dead. It stays silent for minutes, no radar, no comms, no network. Stubborn stragglers are ganged up on and forced into the cloud, followed by the poor ships on autopilot being bodily hauled into the nebula with tractor beams. Once the entire Fleet has been set adrift as sitting ducks, before the Marsiva can get too close, the attacking fleet... turns and flees through the cloud, seemingly untouched by the nebula that scrambles your ships.

Eventually, the systems flicker back to life, blinking on one by one. It will be several hours before any other effects of the attack will be noticeable. The network shows up as live again, but Atroma never shows up to explain a thing...]

ooc: the out-of-character event post is over here! respond to this post any way you like; you can have action, comm messages, play during the attack, being stuck in the nebula, checking in after the network comes back online, or whatever else seems fitting.

The people in the picture -- there seem to be 5 in all, two of whom seem extremely familiar -- are very cartoon-like, and it's clear that she is no artist. One of them -- a cat with blue hair -- has hearts drawn around him, one is singing, and the other unfamiliar one seems to have a permanent scowl. ]

My miqo'te have gone missing. [ Because that explains everything? ] They are small, and have ears... [ She waves her free hand up over her head, indicating cat ears. ] And tails. One carries a large book, one a bow, and the other three carry around large swords.

If found, please return to Margie Detemps. That's me. Thank you.

You know, it was December before I came here. For anyone here who doesn't know about Earth's calendar system, December is the end of the year, and one of the coldest months. Later, when I woke up here, it was April, four months after December. Crazy, huh? Here I thought I actually went through with my mission after all! [Granted, he thought he must've been heavily sedated if he forgot four months of the mission, but that misunderstanding was later cleared right up.] Anyone else suddenly jumped forward or backward in time when they were brought here?

However, that's not the reason I'm broadcasting. Back home, my birthday would've been seven months from then, but now it's today. I still feel like it should be months away, but here we are, I guess! [He bends down, his hair still visible on the feed, then back up, this time with a fishbowl in his hands that houses one (1) red fish with googly eyes, and occasionally glows an orange color.] So I got a present for myself! Meet the newest member of the Vanquish crew: Apollo. He's just like my friend back at home. He's red, he tiny, and his eyes bug out like when he's doing that perceive ability of his! [And he ends up laughing a little about it. IT'S THE BEST THING EVER he hopes he can tell Apollo this someday, just to get that flat, unimpressed look in return.]

Also, we got something from a sponsor! [HIS FIRST ONE EVER if we don't count the pottery soda. Carefully setting Apollo aside, he instead drags over a box, where he pulls out one of several visors that look a lot like his, only with a sponsor's logo on it instead of the GYAXA one he has on his (and also less well-made than his).] Anyone want one? [ Ino looks a little frazzled, but she's all business when she addresses the camera. ]

Hey everyone! An update on the research going on right now. Well, as far as I know, anyways. If anyone has any findings besides what I'm about to say, let me know, I'll add it to the list.

To make this short and sweet, we've figured out that these aliens are pretty damn intelligent -- near to or on par with humans. [ She holds up a hand, as if to shush the people watching ] Immortals and non-humans, please save your jokes about how dumb we are for the end, please and thank you.

Anyways, they're pretty smart, but they weren't really supposed to be all crazy and vicious. So we looked into it and it looks like they've been exposed to some sort of fungus that's severely damaged their nervous system. If you didn't know, that's linked to the brain, and so very much affects how they act and think. We're thinking that's shorted out their ability to think and reason properly. Hence the conflicting violent attitude compared to the distress signal they sent out before.

Soooo, if you haven't put two and two together -- until we figure out the deal with this mold, how to potentially cure the damage it's caused, so on and so forth -- I would not recommend going on the ship at all until we can determine for sure that it's not going to infect us, too. I know there's a lot of interesting things going on on the ship, but you don't know what that shit could do to you. [ A beat ] Seriously.

If you're going to be a stubborn idiot and go on the ship anyways, I'm going to be keeping an eye on the entrance and keep note of anyone who decides to go in, so you can be monitored in the future. You know, just in case this comes back to bite us later, which it probably will, because that's how these things work.

If you've been on the ship and you're worried about your own personal health, or have noticed any recent symptoms you think are off in some way, I'd be happy to check and see if your everything is in order! I'd also recommend drinking a lot of water the next few days to flush any toxins out of your body.

Anybody have any questions? I'm Ino, captain of the Three Twins for those who don't know me. Just let me know.

[ And with a short little wave, she ends the feed. ]

I don't know how many of us have all been through this ship so far, but it looks as though there's still a lot of it in working order. I think if enough of us were to work together, we might be able to see to at least turning some lights on, if not getting the thing running properly again.

The bugs are dangerous, of course, so if there are any security officers who could spare the time to come with us engineers when the time comes, I'm sure we'd all appreciate a little extra fire power. I suppose you could say this is less of a call to arms and more of a call to discussing who is willing to come along and repair a very strange alien ship. So... who's with me?
