[Have one sulky looking blond on you screens. Arms crossed, mouth pouty, and her cheeks puffed a little not doing much to hide that fact. Well no one said this situation was ideal, and she’s definitely feeling that.]

So it’s been three days and I’ve been mostly keeping quiet, I mean what’s the chance that anyone from home is even here? [Someone doesn’t think it’s likely she got lucky and knows anyone here.] But I guess if anyone from Inaba is here, could you maybe say hello? Yu if you’re here I’d like to hear from you. I could use a little normal.

[Her head shifts and her features take on a slightly more snotty look.]

And if you’ve seen him - silver bowl cut, handsome face, incredibly nice by all accounts, I’d appreciate it if you let me know.

( BROADCAST ♦ if this is a hangover, i gotta stop drinking. )

( oh. this is – this is bad.

it takes him a second – maybe two, maybe more than that – to knock the fuzz out of his head ( and to realize that, at some point during his slumber, his hat had fallen off into the floor ), and sit upright on his cot, surveying his surroundings with the kind of scrutiny that comes from one too many nights spent trying to drink a krogan under the table and losing. normally, when he passes out drunk he wakes up in the same place he'd gone to sleep in or, at the very least, some universally familiar place that he can track from where he'd started.

this is neither of those things. and he's not all that happy about it.

it takes one look out those giant, crystal clear windows for him to come to the conclusion that yes, he's still in space, but no, he is most certainly not on the normandy, and you know what one thing has to happen for this one to lose his cool? take him away from his ship. and his commander. and –

he's so miffed and angry about this situation that he fumbles with his comm unit for a second – this isn't an omni-tool, what the hell!? – and while you all might have been watching from the very beginning, the audience is about to get a face full of beard and green eyes.
) Okay. I don't know what's going on here, but whoever's behind this has about two seconds before I –

( joker. you don't have anything you can possibly hope to threaten anyone with. a point which is made abundantly clear when he briefly checks his person and finds not only is he lacking his alliance uniform, he's lacking in pretty much everything. there's a small stretch of silence, and he huffs, decides to try again. )

Never mind, I'll let you ruminate on what I'm gonna do. Makes for a better threat that way. ( s i g h. you know, somewhere, shepard is thinking this is a riot, and who let you out of the cockpit, huh? ) Anyway –

Somebody wanna clue me in on where I am? 'Cause last time I checked, the Normandy doesn't have anything like this – ( waving an arm emphatically to encompass his surroundings, mhm ) – and I know my lady inside and out. This ain't her.

( an even smaller stretch of silence, and he drums fingers against his thigh when no immediate answer comes. ) Uh, I'm waiting. I don't know about you guys, but some of us have a war to get back to.

( ACTION ♦ at least this isn't watching buttons flash. )

( you know. just in case you want to run into him after he's squawked angrily at the network, had some time to cool down and is now meandering about the hospitality deck. checking things out. looking at the screens, out the windows … and basically being a grumpy piece of trash because he misses his ship. and shep.

he isn't in ship-shep shape.

this is a disaster.

Yo! I was thinking... I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty okay with the idea of getting out of the ships and stretching my legs a little, no matter how cold it is. Besides, you know how many awesome things you can do in the snow? A lot. And you know what one of the better things you can do is? Snowball fights.

I seriously want to set up a bunch of 'em. Maybe we can make it into a regular thing so long as we're here? Anyway, they don't all have to be the same set-up, either. We can do teams - crew versus crew, or just friends - or an all-out free-for-all... Hell, we could probably come up with something like flags to capture! So, c'mon, who's in?

I should be pretty easy to find. If you're interested, let's do this!

but back to the present. there's a young girl on the video feed with dark circles around her eyes, but she tries a brief smile anyway.
]

Um... hello, my name is Nanako Dojima and I'm new here. I'm sorry for not saying anything sooner.

[ doesn't that introduction sound a little familiar? maybe. ]

I've read some of the stuff on this... [ internet? network? ] network? So, I kind of know what's going on. But I have a question and if you have time, maybe you can help me?

[ she takes a deeper breath, mustering up the courage to continue. ]

At school, I read a book about a brother and a sister who went to live with a family friend because their parents had to go to war. One day, when they were playing hide and seek, they found a closet in the attic that took them to a magical world where animals could talk. They stayed there for a long time, until they became grown ups. When they decided to back through the closet, they turned back into kids again and it's like they never left at all.

So, I was wondering if this is like the story I read. Will my Dad know that I'm not at home right now? When we find our way back, will it be like I never left? He's a detective and works really late most of the time, so I don't want him to worry about me.

But, um, thank you for listening... Oh! I was assigned to the SS Three Twins! It's nice to meet you and I'll do my best in lab support.

Good afternoon, everyone! If I may have your attention please. Do you have a musical talent that you have been YEARNING to stretch for months? Or maybe you are itching to learn how to play or sing and express yourself through the undeniable power of song!

[ she emphasizes this with a dramatic flourish of her arms. ] So! I was wondering if anyone out there in the fleet would be interested in joining a musical group with me and Steven! You don't have to have an instrument. You don't even need to know how to play! You just need a desire to create a song from the heart. We could even use spare parts from our ships to make new instruments! Doesn't that sound fun?

[ it sounds fun. you know it does. ]

Aside from that...I've also been wondering about starting a garden. I know it probably sounds silly, because - space! But I've always wanted to start one, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to see if anyone had any ideas.

-- The battle that happened before we came across the planet. Is that a common occurrence? Bouts of cackhanded shooting, followed by the fortuitous retreat of our opponents. [ to be fair, she doesn't really know if it was all bad shooting. she's no expert in space-warfare. everything looks a little cackhanded when there's no ground to anchor your view. and let's not begin to count all the things she doesn't know about nebulas. more importantly: ] How often does the fleet come under enemy fire? Can they even be called proper enemies? Can anyone explain why were being shot at?

[ she's still new here, and she craves answers. but even she can hear that grinding note of too much tension in her voice. she knows it's time ease off the throttle. peggy takes a long (savoured) sip of tea and regains a measure of her own composure. ] Heavens, but it'd be nice if these godawful food pastes could be slapped together in a combination that even slightly resembled a Garibaldi. Tea isn't tea without a biscuit.
thespaceopera: (red alert)

[The nebulas are beautiful in this region of space, at the very least. They gleam as great distorting clouds of space-stuff that your scanners don't even want to attempt to analyze. They affect the ships' instruments much like other areas of disruption have in the past, but these are actually visible as large swathes of light--like giant flames frozen in their swirling shapes, suspended across impressive stretches of space. For once, there's something like scenery to look at, out here in the black...

And then, the proximity alarms begin to blare.

From a gap between the two nearest clouds comes an assemblage of ships! Familiar to some and new to others--they do not respond to hails or communications of any kind, and they're gunning straight for the Fleet without slowing. Their weapons are locking on and firing as soon as they are in range.

Many passengers have been through this before, and many of the ships are bigger and better than they'd been in the previous skirmish. Today, the Drift Fleet will put up a better fight, even punch a few holes in their attackers.

Your augment knows where you need to go! Do you run to your station? Do you dodge your job? Are you unsure how to help? Are the captains giving orders or panicking, and are their crews paying attention? Everyone's got a chance to fight back before the enemy fleet runs them into the nearest nebula--and things suddenly take a bad turn.

As soon as each Drift Fleet ship hits the nebula, its systems overload and short-circuit before going dead. It stays silent for minutes, no radar, no comms, no network. Stubborn stragglers are ganged up on and forced into the cloud, followed by the poor ships on autopilot being bodily hauled into the nebula with tractor beams. Once the entire Fleet has been set adrift as sitting ducks, before the Marsiva can get too close, the attacking fleet... turns and flees through the cloud, seemingly untouched by the nebula that scrambles your ships.

Eventually, the systems flicker back to life, blinking on one by one. It will be several hours before any other effects of the attack will be noticeable. The network shows up as live again, but Atroma never shows up to explain a thing...]

[Waking up in unfamiliar surroundings is not new for Kazuto, but in the past it's been quite a different experience. It's not an MMO this time, which is what catches him off guard the most. He can tell immediately, even with a simple glance around- the world is too real, too detailed. (Just in case, he tests a few menu-summoning gestures, but no dice.)

Waking up in a hospital-eque area makes him think that something went wrong with his last MMO dive, but that isn't right. He clearly remembers being safe and healthy the night before- they'd checked him out at the hospital before he'd gone to Sinon's. So... what? A kidnapping? Some kind of experiment? Something about this place doesn't feel right, and there's information slowly filtering into his head that doesn't make much sense.

And then he goes and looks out a window. Yikes.

He spends some time wandering, quietly observing, though there isn't really anyone to observe- computers, broadcasts, machines, yes, but people? The place is pretty deserted. It's eerie and uncomfortable, and he gets totally lost before long. Finally, though, he puts to use the knowledge of the broadcast system that is inexplicably in his head now, typing out a message.]

Is anyone out there available to answer some questions? I don't understand what's happened to me.

[After weeks of relative silence, our intrepid passengers finally travel within visual range of a blue planet. Marsiva's slow-and-steady course makes it clear that this is the Drift Fleet's next destination--but just as your ships come within scanning range and your computers begin to gather data, a fleet of quick little watchdog ships zip out of the planet's atmosphere, heading straight for you!

They do not swoop in for an attack, but hold their positions between you and the planet. They look close enough to cause some trouble, and any working Communications Officer can tell you that they have weapons locked on the Fleet in warning.

The tell-tale sound of an incoming hailing frequency chimes over your ship's alert system. Someone would like you to pick up the phone. Thanks to their augment, all passengers instinctively know that they'll be looking for the Captain or the Communications Officer of the ship--but no one says someone else can't pick it up first.

On the bridge, the hailing frequency can be viewed on screen, along with the attached subject: "Identify yourselves." The notification chime goes off every seven seconds. These ships don't look like they're going anywhere, but they don't want to be kept waiting, either.

What do you do? Will you accept the frequency?]

whoever is yelling is clearly pretty young and upset, but when they get anywhere within view of the camera, all that can be seen is flashes of brown and black, the clanging of heavy metal chains joining all the noise. The yelling just continues, the names repeated over and over again as whoever the kids is apparently continuously runs around the deck trying to find the ones he's calling for.

Someone should probably stop him, because it doesn't sound like all the yelling is going to stop any time soon otherwise. ]

Action: Marsiva hospitality deck.
When: backdated to 6/17, all the way up to the shuffle.

( when he first comes round to consciousness again, there's an immediate feeling of wrongness. nothing feels right; the chill still lingers, shivering through him in tiny little tremors as he pulls himself into a sitting position and rubs a hand over his face, internally pulling at the strings of his memory to recall what had come before.

this isn't the plane – and this most certainly isn't his home back in the city. well, there's one thing to try that might give him a clue as to what precisely is going on, and it certainly goes to show the things he's gone through if his immediate thought is to try to drop from his own reality onto the astral plane which, strangely enough, had come to serve as more of a home than he's willing to admit.

( it had been easier for him and yosuke to meet there than it would have been for either of them to travel. with the added bonus of time stopping for both of them for the duration. )

we could go into great detail about the attempt at dropping from reality – how it should have been effortless, how he should have found himself staring at a starry floor instead of the muted surface beneath his feet – but the long and short of it is simply that it doesn't work. he remains sitting on his cot, blinking at the floor, his hands as they remain curled around his knees, brows furrowing above gray eyes in confusion.

and then in brief fear.

if this isn't the plane, then where –?

where is yosuke?

where is the rest of the team?

what's happening?

it's then that he stands, pushing his hair out of his eyes, and takes a look around. the communication device goes ignored, for the most part, in favor of the massive windows all around him, giving a more than decent view of the even more massive void beyond them. space, he's used to. space, he can handle – which, what does that say about past experiences, hm?

it's the flickering television screens around him that give him immediate pause, uncertainty. a niggling little voice in the back of his mind insists that this could very easily be the beginning of another venture into the tv world – even if it doesn't have the same feel to it. it feels different, of course it does, and none of it even comes close to the horrifying familiarity of where his friends had been forced to face and accept the worst parts of themselves.

yu breathes out a small noise, mouth pulling into a thin, firm line. well. he isn't going to find any of those friends if he doesn't start looking, right? right.

and thus, the search begins.
