( when he first comes round to consciousness again, there's an immediate feeling of wrongness. nothing feels right; the chill still lingers, shivering through him in tiny little tremors as he pulls himself into a sitting position and rubs a hand over his face, internally pulling at the strings of his memory to recall what had come before.
this isn't the plane – and this most certainly isn't his home back in the city. well, there's one thing to try that might give him a clue as to what precisely is going on, and it certainly goes to show the things he's gone through if his immediate thought is to try to drop from his own reality onto the astral plane which, strangely enough, had come to serve as more of a home than he's willing to admit.
( it had been easier for him and yosuke to meet there than it would have been for either of them to travel. with the added bonus of time stopping for both of them for the duration. )
we could go into great detail about the attempt at dropping from reality – how it should have been effortless, how he should have found himself staring at a starry floor instead of the muted surface beneath his feet – but the long and short of it is simply that it doesn't work. he remains sitting on his cot, blinking at the floor, his hands as they remain curled around his knees, brows furrowing above gray eyes in confusion.
and then in brief fear.
if this isn't the plane, then where –?
where is yosuke?
where is the rest of the team?
… what's happening?
it's then that he stands, pushing his hair out of his eyes, and takes a look around. the communication device goes ignored, for the most part, in favor of the massive windows all around him, giving a more than decent view of the even more massive void beyond them. space, he's used to. space, he can handle – which, what does that say about past experiences, hm?
it's the flickering television screens around him that give him immediate pause, uncertainty. a niggling little voice in the back of his mind insists that this could very easily be the beginning of another venture into the tv world – even if it doesn't have the same feel to it. it feels different, of course it does, and none of it even comes close to the horrifying familiarity of where his friends had been forced to face and accept the worst parts of themselves.
yu breathes out a small noise, mouth pulling into a thin, firm line. well. he isn't going to find any of those friends if he doesn't start looking, right? right.
and thus, the search begins. )
