Who: Yosuke and YOU!!
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: On the Ice Planet
When: Broadcast: 12/13 || Action: The entire time we're here!
► [ video ]
[ Yosuke's standing just along the outskirts of one of the settlements planetside. He's dressed as warmly as he can manage, but more importantly... that's a snowball in his hand. And a grin on his face - one that's more mischievous than anything. Oh boy. ]
Yo! I was thinking... I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty okay with the idea of getting out of the ships and stretching my legs a little, no matter how cold it is. Besides, you know how many awesome things you can do in the snow? A lot. And you know what one of the better things you can do is? Snowball fights.
I seriously want to set up a bunch of 'em. Maybe we can make it into a regular thing so long as we're here? Anyway, they don't all have to be the same set-up, either. We can do teams - crew versus crew, or just friends - or an all-out free-for-all... Hell, we could probably come up with something like flags to capture! So, c'mon, who's in?
I should be pretty easy to find. If you're interested, let's do this!
(( OoC: Come get into a snowball fight and bring your friends! Threadhopping encouraged! Party hard! If you wanna cut to the chase, just assume we talked about it and start up an action thread! Everyone should totally just hit each other with snowballs!! ))
► [ video - private, to Souji ]
[ He records this one not long after that first one. The snowball's been ditched, and his grin has been significantly subdued... but he's trying to smile anyway, even if only a little. It's hard ignoring how freaked out he still feels, but... This is something he feels he's gotta do. ]
Hey, man. Uh... listen. If you've got some time, I think there's probably a lot that you and I need to talk about. I mean, we both know we're not... from each other's reality. World version. Something like that. But... there's gotta be more to say than just that. And if we're gonna be here, and anyone else from our worlds could show up... And with Nanako-chan here...
[ Yeah, maybe not looking like an asshole in front of Nanako is one of his goals right now. He trails off... Then shakes his head. ]
Anyway, it's your call. I'll be in this town for a bit. They've got this great coffee drink, dude, you should taste it! [ He cracks a bit more of a smile at that! ] And if you don't wanna talk and you think this is a waste of time, then that's cool. I get it.

video; private.
Of course I'm happy to talk to you, Yosuke. What's on your mind?
video; private
[ Easier, maybe, in some ways. But Probably not best. ]
video; private
OK. I have a little bit of cleaning up to do in the kitchen, then I'll be down as soon as I can.

[ He sends Yu a set of coordinates, and signs off.
He'll be waiting for him outside a small string of shops and cafes, hands tucked into his coat pockets because geez it's cold fjdskl and somewhat nervously fidgeting in place. Always so full of energy, even if he has nothing to do with it... He's practically making circles in the snow with his shifting in place. ]
action.
It is cold - colder than Souji expects, in fact.
And yes, of course he's still got his dumb collar left open.He makes a mental note to search out some kind of winter-appropriate gear while he's here, both for himself and for Nanako. He draws up to Yosuke with a nod of greeting and a small smile.]
Yosuke.
[He gives the line of shops a quick appraising glance.]
Do you suppose they sell Topsicles here?
[A joke, obviously. The two of them will be Topsicles if they don't move inside soon.]
no subject
Well dude, maybe if you buttoned up that collar you'd be marginally warmer! But that wouldn't be very you, would it~?Yosuke nods back, smiles a little... And huffs out a bit of a laugh at the mention of topsicles. ]
Geez, if anything, I bet they're a local specialty... Way too easy to make here.
[ But speaking of inside!! Yosuke is already headed that way, because it beats the hell out of turning into a standing ice cube... There's a table open near the back of this particular cafe, and he looks over at Souji with a shrug - this cool with you? ]
no subject
So ... what's on your mind?
no subject
Well, uh... what do you remember about when we were all on the Marsiva? All those dreams, I mean.
no subject
[Yes, this is about what he expected. Souji nods slowly, swallowing hard, mouth pressed into a thin line.]
I remember a lot about it. Like ... I remember seeing you.
[Do you remember seeing me, what I was? He doesn't really have to ask, does he.]
no subject
[ No. He doesn't have to ask. He hesitates again, takes a deep breath... ]
Dude, I'll just cut to the chase. All of that - was it what you were talking about? Infiltrating, or whatever? When you pretty much turned into someone else? I mean, you didn't tell me much, but I remember that part of it.
cw scars
I didn't say as much about it, because I didn't think it would come up again. At least not like that.
[He offers the other boy a weak smile.]
That was my first Jaunt, my first and only time Infiltrating. You know the Western ideas about Heaven and Hell, angels and demons? [He pauses, looking to make sure Yosuke is following along before he continues.] We were sent to a city called Melasurei, and it was located in Purgatory, between Heaven and Hell. What you saw ... that's what I became.
[His gaze drops to focus on his clasped hands in front of him.]
His name was Souji too, but he called himself Kingpin. He was very old, thousands and thousands of years. He was an angel at first, but he fought on the losing side of the war in Heaven, and he was cast out and became a demon instead. He chose a new name for himself because he felt abandoned by his family - his twin brother, who was called Narukami, and his sister, Yua. Other Travelers - the other Seta I mentioned, and Yua Narukami, also both Infiltrating. Narukami, the angel, fought in the war on the side that won, and he remained an angel. Yua chose to leave Heaven and settle in Melasurei rather than side with one brother against the other, and she was what was called a Sithen.
[He glances up, checking to see if Yosuke is confused yet. It's honestly a huge mess of a story, one he would have a hard time believing if he hadn't lived it.]
Kingpin lost his family, and it changed him. He became ... empty. And to fill that emptiness inside, he searched for power, wherever he could find it.
[Power is the only thing that matters. The demon's own words to Yosuke, spoken in whatever that dream state was.]
He did ... countless terrible things, all for the sake of acquiring more power. Manipulated people into selling their souls, seduced and tortured people ... killed people. For centuries upon centuries. And then I became him, and I did the same things. The man you saw - M, he's a Traveler too, his name's Mason.
[Here Souji reaches up to push his collar aside, show the scar on the left side of his neck where he'd cut his own throat open and beckoned M toward him.]
What you saw ... I did that to him. He worked for me, and I asked him to do terrible things for me. And I rewarded his work with my own blood.
[He drops his hand from his collar and re-folds his hands on the table in front of him. Frowning deeply, he continues:]
It wasn't just a business transaction, though. It was ... manipulation. He was dependent on me, and I used that power to my advantage.
no subject
Jaunts. Infiltrating. Western ideas of Heaven and Hell. He nods when appropriate, just to show that he gets it. Melasurei... that's nothing he's ever heard of. And never did quite get the gist of purgatory, but, well, context is cool. Sure. He can roll with it. The rest of it, though...
Kingpin. A demon, one who was related, sort of, to the other versions of Yu. Souji. Narukami. Seta. What have you. So is that how that worked? Twisting the ties between people into something different each time...? Strange. Yeah, he's a little confused. But it's nothing he can't figure out as he goes, he thinks. Maybe.
Through all of Souji's explanations, he does feel somewhat bad for this Kingpin guy. But... did he really exist? As part of Souji? No -- a new version, a different.. story, that he became. Right? Something like that? Still... trying to fill an emptiness, cover up a void with power because nothing else seems to fit...
He takes a deep breath. His gaze doesn't drop from Yu's, no matter how much he might shift in his seat, fidget under the pressure and his attempts to wrap his head around everything. ]
Yeah. I.. gathered that. Like, that's what he wanted, but it was pretty obvious he didn't really know any better. Still... [ He bites his lip. ] Look, I gotta ask - was that actually you? How much of that was just that Infiltration crap messing with you and everyone else, and... well. You know?
cw scars again
I'd like to think I'm not capable of that sort of evil and destruction. But ... I think I'd be lying if I said I never once thought about doing some of the things he did. Like taking revenge.
[He's not only considered it; he's done it. They all did, with Namatame, back in that hospital room in December.]
Adachi-san, you remember him? My uncle's partner ... he was Traveling too, only he was from a different version of things, because the Seta he knew was called Seito, and ... well, he was a murderer. He killed you, and Chie, and a lot of others, and Adachi-san thought I was him, and he kept antagonizing me about it, until he finally got so angry he punched me in the face. And I almost got him back.
[But not with his fists. Souji unclaps his hands from in front of him and raises one hand, palm up, for Yosuke to see. He purses his mouth in concentration, and from the ends of his fingertips, electricity crackles - only a little bit, and only for a second, but it's there.]
I could have probably incinerated him. I wanted to - I was angry.
[He closes his hand and folds both arms on the table in front of his chest.]
That's one of the things I was left with, after the Jaunt. Kingpin had control over elemental magic - fire, ice, wind, and lightning. I only kept the last one, but ...
[He shrugs. It's enough to give him doubts about his own nature.]
So it wasn't a dream, like what happened here. I really was Kingpin. I remember his thoughts, his feelings. I have the scars from his battles. [He points to the thin slash mark across his left cheek. It's not the only one, but it's the most obvious, the most visible.] I don't really know how much of that is a reflection on me personally and how much was just bad luck.
no subject
Then Souji raises his hand, calls forth those sparks at his fingertips, and Yosuke honestly about jumps in his seat! He was not expecting that, but... it's kinda cool. He sits forward a bit, wondering if he'll do it again, but sits back again when it becomes clear that he's not. ]
Maybe a little of both. [ When the words leave his lips, they sound a lot more grim than he'd thought they would. He frowns, shakes his head. ] I mean... It's like you just said. You don't think you're capable of that sort of evil and destruction. So it can't be that.
[ Souji may not be
his partnerYu Narukami, but that doesn't make him a power-hungry demon by default, huh? ]I know everyone's got different sides and Shadows and all of that. [ Snort. ] Hell, I think you and I know that better than anyone. But... that doesn't sound like the same thing.
[ Ugh, speaking of Shadows, and speaking of Yosuke
and Yuknowing so much about them... ]So... hey. Right now. Weird and probably pretty stupid question, but... what color is your blood?
[ Best way to get this over with!!! ]
no subject
[He smiles ruefully over that, thinking about how he'd seen the Shadows of so many of the people he met in Inaba - his friends - but never faced his own. Sometimes, it nags at the back of his mind, why he was so different from the others. Maybe in a way, being Kingpin was sort of the same thing.
The question about his blood catches Souji a little off guard; he blinks in mild confusion.]
It's not stupid ... as far as I know, it's the normal color, now. Red. Demons had black blood called ichor, but - well, I haven't cut myself recently, but I assume it went back to normal.
[He thinks hard - has he injured himself since that Jaunt?]
Wait - when Adachi-san hit me, he split my lip open. It was definitely red blood.
[But it is a weird question.]
Why do you ask?
cw: death mention, self injury
But he's not brave enough to say any of that, to let his not-quite-so-shallow thoughts come bubbling to the surface. Not yet.
The conversation moves on. Red blood... that's good. He nods. He doesn't look particularly relieved or bothered - it is what it is, after all. But he does sigh, shifts a bit in his chair again before sitting up a little more. ]
Well, that's... kind of the thing. I told you Yu was here before you got here, right? My partner, from my world. And that we were both on the Astral Plane, even though now that I'm here, for whatever reason, I can't get back there. Well, it's... not always such an awesome place. A lot of really bad crap happens sometimes. And it likes screwing with people by taking things from their own worlds sometimes, I guess. So... Shadows happened. For everyone. And for me? That meant it happened again.
[ He's quiet for a second, pushes a hand through his hair. ]
Heh. Sorry, dude, I'm kinda taking the long way of explaining, but... I guess wanted you to see how weird it all was. And how dangerous, too. Anyway, the point is... A lot of people didn't make it out of that alive. When I faced mine again, that was okay. I learned a little bit more, but I guess that's kinda always the point, huh? But Yu, and his...
[ He winces, visibly, and he keeps his eyes firmly closed as he continues. ]
He was having a lot of trouble. So when the thing started to go berserk, I pushed him out of the way, and... that was it. ... I died. Run through with a sword by my partner's shadow.
[ He opens his eyes and sits forward with a sigh, and one kunai in his hand. He's looking at it, not at Souji, but he's keeping on talking. He's not quite done yet. ]
But death doesn't stick on the Plane, and I woke up in the back of the shop with a hell of a headache and uh... this.
[ He very easily nicks the pad of his thumb with the tip of the blade, then holds his hand out for Souji to see. It's bleeding, but... it's not red. It's thick like blood should be, but it's black as night, with shimmers of gold if the light catches it just right. Stardust in oil, almost. ]
We always called it Plane blood. That's just what happens if the place brings you back to life. I think some other people said other stuff changed too, but... yeah. I thought you should probably see this. [ He cracks a small, bitter smile. ] Seeing you with black blood for a little bit there didn't help, man. But hey, now you know why.
no subject
I'm so sorry that happened, Yosuke.
[He'd seen each of his friends take blows for him, back in Inaba, in the TV World, but never anything grave. Certainly no one died to save his life. The idea is one Souji finds unsettling, to say the least.
Black blood - that too is unsettling. Souji's eyes widen when Yosuke cuts his thumb to show what lies underneath his skin.]
Yeah ... I can imagine that was pretty shocking to see. [One shocking thing out of an entirely disquieting experience.] You don't know why that happened, when people would die on the Plane? [He nods to indicate the cut on Yosuke's thumb, the change in color of his blood.]
no subject
Yeah. It... sucked, but... I'd do it again. [ "What're partners for, huh?" ... Another shake of his head, and he continues, brushing his bloodied thumb off on his jeans (because he's classy like that jsfkld) ]
Not really. I mean... there are ideas. Like, well... another name for the place was "The Machine". And Plane blood may have that weird glitter stuff in it, but it also looks pretty mechanical. If you think about it like that. But it's still warm, and I'm definitely still alive - well, a-again. [ Ahem. Fidget~ ] So... I don't know, to be honest.
no subject
I guess some things are just mysteries.
[And maybe some things are meant to be left as mysteries. Maybe not everything needs to be ripped open and exposed. Maybe Truth isn't everything it's cracked up to be.]
... I'm glad you're alive, Yosuke.
no subject
[ It bothers him, a little, if he's honest. Spending so long seeking the truth in his own world, just to end up in a place between worlds that didn't seem to have any damn truth to seek? Can't be right. But... there's nothing he can do about it right this second, is there?
It's that second bit, though, that seems to hit him more. He looks up at Souji again, closely - hesitant, but not unkind in the least. And he does crack another smile, for a second. ]
Yeah I'm pretty glad about it too. ... Heh, seriously, thanks. I know I'm not the Yosuke you knew, and I guess a lot of things between our realities are pretty different, but still. I'm glad you're alive, too.
no subject
[Not everyone who's here is, in the Inaba where Souji was before he began Traveling. Nanako isn't. He almost wants to ask Yosuke how much their realities differ in this one aspect, if Yu was able to save Nanako in time, but - he doesn't. It seems like too much, weighed against everything else they've talked about here. Maybe another time.]
I know I'm not your partner, but ... I'd still like to be your friend, if you'd like.
no subject
And... no. Not his partner. Damned if that hadn't been Yosuke's initial hangup when Souji first showed up. And of course, it wasn't even Souji's fault. At all. Yosuke had simply been too hurt, the pain still too fresh to navigate easily. It's probably a shame he never tried to put words to it. Maybe he wouldn't have been kiiind of maybe sort of a slightly avoidant asshole. But now? That sting has faded. That's what matters. ]
Yeah. Of course. I'd like that, too.
[ He means it. Truly. And he's happy to realize that he does.
But even so, he lightens his tone, intending to dissipate some of the severity of the moment. ]
Besides, gotta stick together when you're trapped in a bunch of drifting spaceships, huh?
no subject
There's a sudden lightness in his chest when Yosuke accepts his offer of friendship; Souji smiles and exhales a small breath of relief, nodding in agreement.]
I'm counting on you.
no subject
Counting on you too, man.

action;
(His reflexes were too fast, of course, but the attempt was enough to make him abandon the prize today.) So he kneels down and rolls up a snowball, tossing it between his hands like he's in the middle of deep, deep thought...]
I was gonna come eventually, you know. A snowball wouldn't have sped it up that much....
no subject
Yeah, maybe... but this way, I've got you for sure!
[ Your move - he already had his shot, after all, and fair's fair -- until it's not~ ]
no subject
You sure about that?
[His middle name might as well be arrogance right now, seeing as he's still rolling up a few more.]
The way I see it, I might give you some serious run for your money.
no subject
Hey, bring it on, then! [ And, well, he's gonna start chucking and rolling in quick succession~ ]
no subject
But Alesci lived for them, and Stefan figures, he can honor this guy's new life too. So he jumps back from the onslaught of snowballs, missing most of them by a few hairs and--
That last one got him. Stefan lets out a laugh before letting loose with the ones he's got. He's no telekinetic, but when he moves faster than a blur? He's definitely cheating here.]
Action
[Yes, one could easily call this cheating.]
no subject
Well, uh, until there's suddenly one bajilliondy snowballs flying in his direction. dsjkal Wanda will have the fortune of hearing a rather spectacular yelp! as he scrambles out of his hiding place behind a rock, since that's clearly not doing him any good!! He books it to the other side of a fence wall, hoping that will at least give him enough shelter to attempt retaliation! ]
Holy crap!! Are you serious?!
no subject
[As Yosuke scrambles behind some cover, Wanda just calmly approaches holding a snowball in her hand. Once she's within a few feet, she'll call out to him, friendly and teasing.]
Does this mean I win?
no subject
He hears her approach, quickly arms himself with a snowball in each hand... And with a grin, he pops up from behind that fence and lobs them both right at her! ]
I'm not down yet!
no subject
no subject
(Was that a squeak? That might have been a squeak~ He'll never fess up, shhh!) He ducks, quickly scoops up another set of snowballs... then he darts out from behind his cover and starts toward her, tossing snow her way as he goes!
Determination!! It's a good thing!!! ... right? ]
no subject
action | ota
Yep. Sure is.]
Think fast!
no subject
Splat! ]
Oh no you don't!!
[ He quickly packs together a snowball as he runs toward her, closing the distance so she has less time to get away when he chucks it right at chest level! ]
no subject
You were saying...?
[Jedi are cheaters.]
no subject
Oh crap--!
[ The quickest thing he can think to do is to use both arms to toss as much snow at her as he can! Have a mini-makeshift-blizzard for your trouble, Ahsoka. ]
no subject
You can't defeat me that easy!
