warning! warning!
[The nebulas are beautiful in this region of space, at the very least. They gleam as great distorting clouds of space-stuff that your scanners don't even want to attempt to analyze. They affect the ships' instruments much like other areas of disruption have in the past, but these are actually visible as large swathes of light--like giant flames frozen in their swirling shapes, suspended across impressive stretches of space. For once, there's something like scenery to look at, out here in the black...
And then, the proximity alarms begin to blare.
From a gap between the two nearest clouds comes an assemblage of ships! Familiar to some and new to others--they do not respond to hails or communications of any kind, and they're gunning straight for the Fleet without slowing. Their weapons are locking on and firing as soon as they are in range.
Many passengers have been through this before, and many of the ships are bigger and better than they'd been in the previous skirmish. Today, the Drift Fleet will put up a better fight, even punch a few holes in their attackers.
Your augment knows where you need to go! Do you run to your station? Do you dodge your job? Are you unsure how to help? Are the captains giving orders or panicking, and are their crews paying attention? Everyone's got a chance to fight back before the enemy fleet runs them into the nearest nebula--and things suddenly take a bad turn.
As soon as each Drift Fleet ship hits the nebula, its systems overload and short-circuit before going dead. It stays silent for minutes, no radar, no comms, no network. Stubborn stragglers are ganged up on and forced into the cloud, followed by the poor ships on autopilot being bodily hauled into the nebula with tractor beams. Once the entire Fleet has been set adrift as sitting ducks, before the Marsiva can get too close, the attacking fleet... turns and flees through the cloud, seemingly untouched by the nebula that scrambles your ships.
Eventually, the systems flicker back to life, blinking on one by one. It will be several hours before any other effects of the attack will be noticeable. The network shows up as live again, but Atroma never shows up to explain a thing...]
ooc: the out-of-character event post is over here! respond to this post any way you like; you can have action, comm messages, play during the attack, being stuck in the nebula, checking in after the network comes back online, or whatever else seems fitting.

First Breath/special note to Nux
I need everyone in position. Man the guns. We are going at these bastards and we are doing so agressively.
[She secures her communication device on the dashboard and queues up a video feed to Nux.]
Warboy. Your rig ready to roll?

[He doesn't need to ask ready for what. She doesn't even really need to tell him what to do, at least not at first. His eyes are wide and bright and what color he has is high in his cheeks. This is what he was made for, almost literally.]

BISHOP
[the alarms start alerting the ship, and hiro lets them go off for about ten seconds before he cuts the sound and comes over the PA system.]
Heads up, Bishop, our friends from April are back! Everybody needs to be on their stations, we are not letting this be a repeat of last time! Pilots, set a course for the Three Twins! Belthazar, if you can help Tadashi keep the lab in place, that'd be great!
Show no mercy, guys, they're not gonna show us any.
[as soon as the announcement cuts, anyone trying to rush to the bridge will get to see hiro fly past them down the hall to the engine room. time to pull what he did last time and repair the shields as they're damaged.]
[INO / voice]
We're coming to you. If Allen asks, tell him to tell Sokka you're the meeting point.
[ALEX / voice]
Bishop is on course to the Three Twins, you should get over there if you can. Be safe.
[DURING THE BLACKOUT]
[hiro will be stuck in the engine room trying to get things to come on properly again. someone should probably get him out of Captain Mode and get him to chill out; his hands are a little burned from fighting the damage, like they were last time.]
[AFTER THE BLACKOUT / text to everyone hiro has ever been friends with]
status report
Start of Attack
[Frobisher was minding his own business, kicking back in the bridge with his flippers up, filling out a personality quiz in a decades-old magazine they picked up at the last rest stop. It's turning into a rather relaxing and enjoyable day...
That is until the alarm's start blaring. He reacts with total complete professionalism and definitely isn't knocked out of his chair in surprise. He's only just climbing back into his seat when Hiro comes in over the comms and... yeah those guys do not look friendly out there, do they?
Frobisher buckles into his seat, morphing almost in instinct to bullet-proof his skin. You can't be too careful.]
[Audio - to Hiro]
On it, kid. You sayin' these guys attacked here before? What the hell's their damage?

[His urge to hide under a table is overwhelming, but Hiro actually ordering people around gets him to at least try to be around, try to help. This isn't the first time this has happened. He speeds down to the lab to help.
He lashes equipment to the walls and stashes loose things in cabinets in case they roll. He's discovered that he can keep his mind off the fear if he has something to do. Unfortunately, some things he can't get to in time and there's broken glass but... it could be worse. He'll clean that up when it's over.]

VANQUISH
[When the alarms blare, Clay jerks in his seat, hands gripping the arms of the chair and first looking towards where the noise is coming from, then out towards the view he was just looking at, heart racing from the sudden shock. He sees it then: ships heading towards them. At first, he thinks that he should try to contact them, seeing how he's never seen them before.
But then, he sees the ships fire at them – fire at the fleet. At that moment, he feels his shock turn into something else entirely, and he leans forward to grab the controls and move the ship out of the way of the shots fired at them. While he does so, he flips on the device to let him communicate with the rest of the crew, then talks to them in a stern, stressed but level voice.]
[Locked to: SS Vanquish]
Vanquish crew, we're taking some fire here! I need everyone to listen to me!
Zessica, you're up here with me; I need that ESP of yours!
Pearl, we might take some damage; make sure the ship doesn't fall apart on me!
Tony, either help Pearl or find another part of the ship that might take some damage!
Eugene, cover Pearl! Rogue, cover Tony!
Call to me if something goes wrong! And remember - [He swerves the ship to the other side to avoid more fire and pushes forward, flying downward as an enemy ship flies right towards their ship.] - We're the SS Vanquish and we're fine!
[Fleetwide]
This is Clay Terran from the SS Vanquish! We don’t have any weapons to fight back with; support requested!
[After the attack]
[Fleetwide: Audio]
This is SS Vanquish. We're a-okay here, though we've taken some light damage. Is everyone else all right? Report in.
[Vanquish: Action]
[Clay’s still pretty high on energy and adrenaline, and he paces the ship, seeing over the damages, trying to make sure everyone’s all right, constantly tugging on his gloves. He seems collected on the outside, but man, is he nervous as hell on the inside.]
o7
After this is done, I vote we pad the rough edges around this place! [She grabs the back of his chair with one hand, the other dropping from her shoulder to reach around him and rest on his over the ship's steering controls.]
The time it takes to tell you where to go is time we don't have to spare. Trust me?

action; during the blackout
[called out from somewhere down the hall; he's leaning halfway into a wall, digging at wires and electronics and boxy tech that doesn't make sense to anyone but an Engineer. he's got a little pen-light, but it doesn't do much do illuminate anything.]
Ship's dead until the fail-safe kicks on. I think it was just a surge, so the circuits are all right... Doesn't smell like melting plastic, or anything...
[...Robin has a lot more to see with than just human vision. he stops what he's doing, suddenly leaning back out into the hall, and looking right at where he can feel an unusual swell of something... not evil, but cold. absence.]

RED FISH
[what does it take to get Coil to act like he is part of some sort of team at all, let alone the First Mate of one? apparently, it's a combination of sudden danger smashing into their path, and not totally hating every person on his crew. also, knowing that they can actually fly this time helps as well. some important things have changed since the last attack.
he happens to be on the bridge when the threat appears, since it is the emptiest part of the ship at the time. the alarms hit him hard, jolt him out of whatever meditation he'd been steeping in, and pitch him headlong into another mode entirely.
it's suddenly time to fight, and he's stuck in here without a way to act. so, since he can't exactly shout for help or text his crew quickly... he resorts to just bolting through the ship and banging fists on every door he passes.
it's time to move, people.]
[After the fight, during or after the blackout]
[it isn't until everything is over and rattled still that he can really do anything. he's itching to act, and he can't exactly do much about the ship itself... so, as soon as he can, he's hurrying around to each member of the crew.
whether he likes you or not, he is the doctor here, and it's his job to make sure that every member of the crew is functioning as they should be.]
during the blackout
he's pretty calm, even if he's still hanging around his weapons station. he holds his arm out for Coil as soon as he spots him--not because it's damaged, but because he knows Coil will want to give him a proper inspection.
he's a little bruised up, but it's nothing bad. nothing broken, nothing bleeding.]

PATHSTONE
[it's not that he thinks his co-captain isn't going to jump in as soon as she can, or that she can't handle it. no, Tek pounces on the chance to act first because he just happens to be up and around when the attack hits (after quite the weeks-long nap)... and he just isn't in the mood to be told what to do, right now.
the timing is just very good. because he does have the capacity to lead, somewhere in there, but goodness knows that he rarely has the will to try. but now, he's restless and motivated and itching for the chance to do something out here in such a dead region. so... as soon as the alarms blare, the lazy beast snaps into action.
it's a very different Tek than they usually get to see around here.]
Wake up! [--it's an educated guess, and it's shouted over the Pathstone comm]
Our friends are back.
[After the attack, during or after the blackout]
[once the battle is over, he doesn't run around to check on his crew. he assumes that someone else is handling that part--he'll just stay here to brood on the bridge. because, oh, the wheels are busy working in his head.
standing at one of the windows facing the enormous, gleaming curtain of nebula before them, Tek is somewhere deep in silent thought. maybe, if he tries hard enough, he can just glare a hole right through the thing...]
[BROADCAST; after the attack]
[as soon as the comms come back on line, he calmly calls out to the rest of the fleet--]
This is the captain of the Pathstone. Are all of the other ships accounted for?
Audio: during the attack
Again? Well, I'm not bloody hailing them this time. It's the verbal equivalent of chucking a snowball into an active volcano, and it's really not worth the effort.

BLUE FISH
[Sokka remembers these guys. He's been waiting for these guys. He wonders how many times this is going to happen before either they quit or do whatever it is they want to do to them. ]
This is getting reeeeaaaaaally tedious.
[Still, he'll flip onto the Blue Fish comms: ]
Okay guys, our friends are back again. Get to your posts and get ready for round...three? Four? Let's keep this ship flying, because we'll need to help other folks out there, too.
[Action on the Blue Fish - during the blackout]
[Sokka's checking on every single damn one of you, making sure you're not hurt or dead. Then, he's off to try and get ANY sort of life out of his ship. The lighting is flickering like all hell and the doors keep opening and closing. He'll probably get stuck in one at some point. ]
[Fleetwide; audio - post blackout]
Does anyone need help? We've got two lab folks here so if you're injured and lacking one, send them over. Once I'm done repairing the Blue Fish, I can help with anything you guys need. Just give a yell.

TOURIST
[The proximity alarms blare, and Axel has no idea he has just been jolted awake from the longest nap of his life. He sits up, groggy, and scrubs at his face with one hand, and not a second later the ship lurches and he's promptly thrown to the floor. With a yelp of pain and alarm, he untangles his limbs and scrabbles for the door.]
All right, all right, I'm going, sheesh!
[He staggers his way to the bridge, feeling a lot clumsier than he usually does when he first wakes up. That must have been a helluva nap. (He has no idea.) Stumbling in, he spots Fenris at the controls and looks a little confused.]
Where's Ladon?
[Oh Axel, a lot's changed while you were sleeping.]
[After; voice to the whole fleet]
This is Axel. Remind me not to sleep for a month again, it only seems to cause trouble. Is everyone all right?
[Text to Riku, Kairi, Hiro, Steven, Ino, Nunnally, and Robin]

HOW'D I MISS THIS POST?!
Starstruck
[ The alarms definitely make Yosuke jump about a foot out of his chair as a startled yelp escapes him, but he quickly pieces together what the heck is going on, looks out the window, sees all of those other ships... Oh man, he's got a bad feeling about this.
And that bad feeling is absolutely confirmed when he starts hearing the chatter over the fleetwide radio, that others have seen these ships before and this is not good... And that manages to get even worse when the enemy ships begin to attack.
Yosuke immediately addresses the crew. ]
Alright, everyone! We're under attack! Looks like this isn't the first time these guys have come after us, but I wasn't exactly here for the first time, so if anyone knows anything, let me know, qui-- Whoa--!!
[ Direct hit. The ship rocks mightily, and Yosuke is thrown far enough off balance that he drops to the floor, the side of his head rather forcefully smacking the edge of his console on his way down. Abrupt end to radio broadcast. (isn't that so very comforting! Sorry, crew.) ]
[ During the attack - action ]
[ The ship has mounted guns now, but surely they're not the best ever - though hopefully, they'll be able to buy the ship some time for at least a little bit. People need protection, shields need to be kept up. Hopefully everyone will be able to keep things together for as long as they possibly can.
As for the captain? Well, for the moment... He's down, but he's not out.
He groans, does his best to pick himself back up, but... He doesn't immediately reach for the radio to address the crew again. He stands there, staring out at the chaos outside, eyes wide and mind reeling. It's not just the blow to the head, it's the fact that he's feeling like he's way in too deep, and... he has no idea what to do.
"Cool playing second banana," he'd said. That was a long time ago. Now? Well. Now he's literally stuck being first banana. So what's a kid supposed to do?
Partner, where the hell are you now, and... and are you okay...?He could probably use a kick in the ass to get his head back in the game. Or maybe everyone is elsewhere, working together to keep the damage to a minimum? Either way - what are you up to, crew? ]
[ Blackout - action ]
[ Inevitably, they're shoved into the nebula. Everything shuts down, goes pitch black.
Yosuke's darting around the ship to see for himself that everyone's alive and well - as alive and well as they could be, after something like that. Once everyone's been accounted for, then he'll retreat back to the bridge. And when he's not trying to flick various electrical things off and on like a nervous twitch despite knowing his efforts will be in vain, you'll find him... staring out into space. Literally. He'll be by the window, lost in his own thoughts. Brooding, if you will.
It's a good thing people were around to knock him back into captain mode for a bit, but now that it's quiet... he needs a second, okay? ]
[ Systems back online - broadcast, fleetwide ]
[ The second the comm's working again, Yosuke immediately speaks up to the whole fleet. ]
Hey. This is the Starstruck. We're okay. ... Please tell me everyone else out there is okay, too.
[ wildcard ]
(( y'all feel free to thread out anything I didn't account for! ))

PAISLEY
[The sudden blare of the proximity alarm knocks Alex right out of bed - she wakes as she hits the floor in a tangle of sheets, already shouting for her crewmates.]
Hey! Get your asses up front, we've got-
[Fire. We've got fire. She recognizes the sound, like something from one of her brothers' stupid video games. Only it's real, and it's close, and she has no idea who's shooting it.]
James, go start dodging. Everyone else-
[Her feet hit the cold floor of the bridge, and the battle around them erupts in fiery light and the glow of the massive nebula. Her stomach goes cold.]
Shit, we don't even have guns... Just- everyone just get somewhere safe, okay?
(( the blackout - action ))
[Seconds after the ship goes dead, Alex pulls her wand from her boot and mutters a quick spell - the bridge lights up an eerie green.]
E-everyone still alive? Yes or no, folks.
(( the aftermath - action/audio ))
[About five minutes after the lights crackle back on, Alex makes a quick, out-of-breath broadcast.]
SS Paisley's alright, back online. Just some bumps.
(( private to Allen, Hiro, Davesprite, Sokka, and Crowley ))
[And added on, just to her closer friends - ]
Hey none of you are dead, right? Tell me if you are so I can come kick your ass.

If he can run about with a werewolf every month, he can do this. This is easy, right? Absolutely. He's good. He can do this. He has been here for maybe a week and these people are relying on him not to die. Cake. Absolute. Cake.
Natural intuition and blind fucking luck are the only reason why they're alive at the moment and James (who went from being groggily asleep to wide awake in .0003 seconds) has reached the wheel in time to bolt out of the way of -- is that a spaceship? Another one?]
The hell --
[Please hold as he yanks upward to narrowly avoid -- what, exactly? He has no fucking idea.]

GOLDEN
[He's better equipped this time, sort of. He knows all the faces on the ship, knows their temperaments, knows their jobs. More specifically, he knows what he's meant to be doing, which is already leagues beyond where he was at the last time something like this happened.
Also, he knows how to work the PA now.]
Maker's breath, you'd think this lot would learn to take a hint eventually. Up and at 'em, everyone, I'd really rather not get knocked about like an unfortunate chew-toy this time around.
[It's as flippant as he ever is, which is very, but anyone who catches a glimpse of him during this announcement or in the time afterwards might find it obvious that his easy confidence isn't 100%.]
The guns are meant for something, aren't they? How about we make proper use of them, hm?
[And he cuts the announcement off, not lingering long on the bridge. He needs to lock down lab support, and after that—
Well, he'll figure it out.]
ii. BLACKOUT (GOLDEN)
[The nebula is, for a moment, bright and blinding.
Then everything goes dark.]
Well!
[Something creaks far away. Anders is tense, tightness in his chest and the line of his shoulders, waiting for a final assault that doesn't come. He makes an attempt to defuse it his usual way:]
At least now we've got mood lighting. Anyone have a spooky story they'd like to share?
[He's healing where necessary, hands a smudge of pale, otherworldly light in the darkness. He is lab support, after all; he'll take care of anyone on the crew who needs it.]
iii. COMMUNICADO (AUDIO, FLEETWIDE)
[He fights with his communicator to get this sent out as soon as it registers that the network is back online. His tone is still even, though, nearly cheerful.]
This is the Golden, checking in! All still with our important bits, even. Anyone else out there?
BLACKOUT in which the engineer is in need of some engineering probably smh
Towards the end of things it's becoming apparent that they'll probably need additional materials for a proper fix on some of these bits...but it's alright, that's probably doable, maybe they'll run into a waystation soon once they're out of this mess--and that's what Megaman's mulling over, making his way back to the bridge to retrieve a few tools he'd set there earlier. The ship lurches, though, and the nebula outside the windows brightens--and everything inside goes dark.
On--several levels! In Megaman's case, at least. He has no recollection of even blacking out, but opening his eyes takes a titanic effort when he comes around again a half minute or so later, head ringing, a dozen different internal errors and warnings buzzing under his jaw. Dimly he realizes he's on the floor now, half-crumpled against a wall; even more dimly, he's aware of his power reserves suddenly remarkably low, and the presence of a backup generator kicking in somewhere in his person--but even then it's barely running, as if it's being choked down.
Sitting up a bit more takes another enormous effort, head tipping back against the support of the wall; through half-open eyes he can just barely make out a silhouette in the dark, forming and growing down the hall. Probably a another crew member...oh--]
What... [The word drags out. He frowns.] What--happened? Is everybody...?

HUNTRESS
[I bet y'all are glad Miah's been able to practice with the guns now.
She's immediately at her station, unloading the weapons into the enemies with the calmness and precision of one who is used to danger. Unfortunately, she's got a different way of fighting than most- When she sees another Fleet ship under fire, she opens up on the ship attacking them, apparently trying to draw the fire onto the Huntress to protect the others.
Still, she knows what to do in an ambush, flipping on the ship's communication system while she fights.]
All members to the bridge. We are under attack and victory is unlikely. We must make preparations to flee.
[Fleetwide text, extra to Margie]
[Once the blackout has ended, she's immediately pulling out her comm to report.]
Huntress reporting. We have taken damage, but are all intact.
Margie, if you see this, please report immediately.

Captain here! Captain here, what do we do! Mayday, mayday!
[After a few moments, he'll try settling at one console and trying to do what he can to open communications with the enemy ships.]
Hello, hello? Anybody there?

Windrose
[There'd been a fight just before Ray came to the Fleet, and he'd always wondered: what would happen if we were attacked again? Could we make it, or would we be blown away?
As it turns out, they don't have to worry about something quite that bad happening. But they're still under attack, and they still have to do something.]
[After the fight, during blackout]
[With a Captain but no pilot, the Windrose takes considerable damage- even though Wrath is formidable at the guns, even though both engineers are working hard, even though Murphy is-- doing something, to help, probably- they black out.
It is dark- the lights flicker on every so often, with a triumphant shout from Ray, or a pleased exclamation from the Vision, but they inevitably go out again.
And then the gravity starts pushing them down, or pulling them, and the fun really starts.]
Blackout
This is already getting old.

If you want Wrath
SS Heron
Since when do they have enemies?! Who are they, anyway? She doesn't have anything like the time to try and Jedi some answers. So she just swings the controls, relying on the augment and instinct to do some evasive maneuvers.]
Hey, we're under attack! Everyone better do what they're supposed to do!
