warning! warning!
[The nebulas are beautiful in this region of space, at the very least. They gleam as great distorting clouds of space-stuff that your scanners don't even want to attempt to analyze. They affect the ships' instruments much like other areas of disruption have in the past, but these are actually visible as large swathes of light--like giant flames frozen in their swirling shapes, suspended across impressive stretches of space. For once, there's something like scenery to look at, out here in the black...
And then, the proximity alarms begin to blare.
From a gap between the two nearest clouds comes an assemblage of ships! Familiar to some and new to others--they do not respond to hails or communications of any kind, and they're gunning straight for the Fleet without slowing. Their weapons are locking on and firing as soon as they are in range.
Many passengers have been through this before, and many of the ships are bigger and better than they'd been in the previous skirmish. Today, the Drift Fleet will put up a better fight, even punch a few holes in their attackers.
Your augment knows where you need to go! Do you run to your station? Do you dodge your job? Are you unsure how to help? Are the captains giving orders or panicking, and are their crews paying attention? Everyone's got a chance to fight back before the enemy fleet runs them into the nearest nebula--and things suddenly take a bad turn.
As soon as each Drift Fleet ship hits the nebula, its systems overload and short-circuit before going dead. It stays silent for minutes, no radar, no comms, no network. Stubborn stragglers are ganged up on and forced into the cloud, followed by the poor ships on autopilot being bodily hauled into the nebula with tractor beams. Once the entire Fleet has been set adrift as sitting ducks, before the Marsiva can get too close, the attacking fleet... turns and flees through the cloud, seemingly untouched by the nebula that scrambles your ships.
Eventually, the systems flicker back to life, blinking on one by one. It will be several hours before any other effects of the attack will be noticeable. The network shows up as live again, but Atroma never shows up to explain a thing...]
ooc: the out-of-character event post is over here! respond to this post any way you like; you can have action, comm messages, play during the attack, being stuck in the nebula, checking in after the network comes back online, or whatever else seems fitting.

[He cuts himself off there, his pacing stopping as he lifts up a hand to pinch the bring of his nose. That came out harsh, not because he's annoyed or anything; he's just stressed more than anything, needs to go scream at something. But he also knows that doing so at someone never solved anything.
Once he knows he won't be yelling or anything, he looks back down at the device again and goes through what Megaman said in his head once more, his tone sounding much gentler now. All right.]
You'll be fine, you can do this. Just think of what you need to do first, get that done, then work on what you need to do next. Think of it one step at a time instead of overwhelming yourself with all of it. I'm sure your crew will understand if you need to take a few minutes to get yourself working properly first. Then you can tackle the rest of it! You're a good engineer! You just have to pace yourself and know when you're ready to do it. Pushing yourself is only going to hurt you more in the end.
[And after a brief pause:] When I'm feeling down, I just tell myself I'm fine. Even if I don't really believe it, just saying it out loud helps me out. [He takes in a deep breath and lowers the device a bit,] I'M CLAY TERRAN AND I'M FINE! [He can't help smiling a bit as he holds up the device again.] Now you try!

[It's a bit of a stunned sound, and probably more than a little underwhelming as far as initial replies go, especially to something like this. But he's at a bit of a loss, for a moment! At all those words...(plus that yell was pretty loud whoa there Clay--he has to take a few more moments to process all that, now for more reasons than just lag.
But. It's logical, really, when Clay puts it like that. So logical it's almost painfully obvious--but between the haze of the recent blackout and the stress of everything else, much less the various other assorted feelings about his current situation as a whole that have been carefully pent up for a little while now...well, it's all been pretty muddled. He's missed having somebody to sound against for things like this, he realizes suddenly. After all, when was the last time he talked to anybody about things like this? Really talked? Probably way to long, ah...and now he'd put himself into this sort of corner....
The pause from the other end of the feed probably seems like an eternity, but finally:]
Right...you're right, that's true. I'm sorry. Today's just been--but no, that's no excuse. I guess, I really haven't been giving myself a lot of time to learn things, have I? And that's probably what it takes with something like engineering...take it step by step. I see now. Ah... [Another more sheepish pause--Clay might not be able to see him rubbing at the back of his neck about now, but it's happening.] But--sure, okay, I'll give it a try! Uh...
[CHECKS AROUND TO MAKE SURE NOBODY ELSE IS TOO NEAR BUT well okay coast seems clear enough so...leaning a bit over his comm now--]
I-I'm Megaman and I'm fine? Oh, no, wait-- [shit that was terrible let's try that again:] I'm Megaman and I'm fine! [PROBABLY STILL NOT NEARLY LOUD ENOUGH BUT...BETTER.....]
no subject
But no, Megaman answers back before he can ask. What he says makes a smile come up, a rather proud one at that. Yes, there, that's much better. And that smile turns into a grin when he actually does try his motto, because wow, that's the first time anyone's really, truly tried it before Sheena left the fleet!]
Haha! No, come on, you've got to do it louder! Yell it like you mean it! YOU'RE MEGAMAN AND YOU'RE FINE!
no subject
But even voicing hesitance, Megaman is still smiling a bit already--half just because of how infectious Clay's smile is to start, despite everything.] Well, okay! Ah-- [lowering the comm a bit, he takes a breath, and:] I'M MEGAMAN AND I'M FINE!
[HOPEFULLY NOBODY GETS CONCERNED AND COMES RUNNING FROM THE GOLDEN END OF THINGS OOPS...that was almost a shout, anyway. He's probably not going to quite reach Clay's level for a little while yet. But all the same, Megaman starts laughing a bit immediately afterwards.]
Wow, that really does--have a pretty motivating feeling! [He rubs the back of his neck a bit awkwardly, but he's still smiling.] I can see why you do it now. This actually kind of reminds me of a friend of Lan's back home...she'd get herself all pumped up by punching rocks! I guess there's all kinds of ways to do it...
no subject
Well, I've never heard of punching rocks before, but hey, if I was strong enough for it and it gave the same effect, I'd do it too! I'm glad it helped you out!
So, what do you think is the first thing you should do?
no subject
But for now, he beams back in turn--a weight really has been lifted somewhere here, either way.]
Yeah, it really is helping! Thank you. Ah, and you don't really have to be strong enough to punch the rocks...it's not like you're trying to break them? But it's the thought that counts! Or, something like that... [Slowly, Megaman folds his arms, the tension visibly draining from his shoulders at last. Even if it still takes him another couple of moments to consider:] Right, though, I guess...I should start with, recording what things have been damaged so far? And assigning priority repairs...
[He's zoning out a little bit just thinking about that already, to be honest, but after another pause he seems to steer himself back to the conversation at hand with a visible effort.]
Hey, but--your ship isn't too badly damaged either, right?
