I got a message a few days ago that I've been assigned to a ship called the Vanquish... but since we're all still stuck here for now, I wanted to introduce myself to my crew. I'm Alphonse! I'm the gigantic suit of armor, so I'm a little hard to miss if you'd like to talk in person...

I wouldn't mind finding a sparring partner, either. I need to make sure my skills are still sharp.

Clay stares at the screen at first, and then his face just lights up as he straightens up a bit and waves at Al on the other side.]

Hey Alphonse! I'm Clay - I'm the captain and the pilot of the Vanquish! When did you get here? [There wasn't any confetti or anything - How could he not know -]

Hey, Captain! I got here a few weeks ago, but I haven't actually seen our ship yet. I guess Atroma's not done with us here.

[Oh man, he's practically vibrating in his seat. He has to go meet this new crew member now.]

A few minutes later and a loooong walk through the hallway, Clay enters the main room. It doesn't take much looking at all to find the really huge suit of armor reading, and Clay immediately grins and heads on over.]

[This was a strange thing to run into on the Marsiva, but... Rogue supposed it made sense that they were still assigning new Flooters a placement.]

Welcome ta the Vanquish, Alphonse. [Pause a beat.] Sort of.

I mean... it is what it sounds like. [Al demonstrates by lifting his head off his neck- nope, nothing inside.] There was... an accident, a few years ago.

[Bran's face goes white, and his eyes widen. And... oh no, here comes yet another question. They don't seem likely to stop.]

[He says is in a low, conspiratorial voice, as if this might be a secret of great importance.]

No problem! This is much easier for me, since... [He raised the hand that wasn't holding the phone.] I have pretty huge fingers. We also didn't have anything like this back home, so I'm still getting used to it.

Okay! That makes sense, since we can talk to each other over these devices... we'd need someone to take care of that system.

Yes, apparently they can be functioned on the ship at a basic level without a communications specialist, but more options are available to someone with the augment.

[Which he's actually pretty pleased he has. It's super useful and a role he's familiar with anyway.]

You, too! Mostly hand-to-hand combat, though I can use weapons, too. I don't think we have any weapons here, though.

[hmm] I've got a few obsidian daggers, but I was also working on steel knives before we all got gathered here. You're welcome to them, but the size may be inappropriate for you.

It's the attempted transmutation of one material to another. They were quite popular when the humans were still figuring out what chemistry is.
