I got a message a few days ago that I've been assigned to a ship called the Vanquish... but since we're all still stuck here for now, I wanted to introduce myself to my crew. I'm Alphonse! I'm the gigantic suit of armor, so I'm a little hard to miss if you'd like to talk in person...

I wouldn't mind finding a sparring partner, either. I need to make sure my skills are still sharp.

[OMG. OMG?? NEW CREW MEMBER!!

Clay stares at the screen at first, and then his face just lights up as he straightens up a bit and waves at Al on the other side.]

Hey Alphonse! I'm Clay - I'm the captain and the pilot of the Vanquish! When did you get here? [There wasn't any confetti or anything - How could he not know -]

[Al waved back at Clay.]

Hey, Captain! I got here a few weeks ago, but I haven't actually seen our ship yet. I guess Atroma's not done with us here.

Hopefully, they'll let us go soon! And as soon as we get there, I promise I'll give you a good tour of the place!

[Oh man, he's practically vibrating in his seat. He has to go meet this new crew member now.]

So uh - Hey, where are you right now? You mind if I come meet you face to face?

Good! And maybe we can figure out what my augment does, too!

I'm in one of the reading nooks. I've been doing a lot of reading here, since there's not much else to do.

Okay! I'll see you soon!

[And click, the device turns off.

A few minutes later and a loooong walk through the hallway, Clay enters the main room. It doesn't take much looking at all to find the really huge suit of armor reading, and Clay immediately grins and heads on over.]

Hey! Alphonse, right?

[Al looked up when his name was spoken, and he raised a hand in greeting.]

And you must be Clay. So, you're my new captain?

Yup! But really, just think of me as another crewmate.

[He holds his hand out to shake. He’s not sure what it’ll be like, shaking hands with what’s essentially a suit of armor, but hey, Al’s a person no matter what his physical form looks like.]

We’ll be with each other for a while, so it’s nice to meet you!

[And Al's glad for the gesture as he returns the handshake. Being spoken to and treated as a normal human did wonders for his mental health.]

Okay, I'll do that! But I may still call you "captain" every now and then out of force of habit... Brother is in the military, so I default to using peoples' ranks if they have one. [He chuckled.] I'm glad to meet you, too. How long have you been with the Drift Fleet?

[It's cold, as he suspected, but that's alright. He just grins before he loosens his hold, then sits down beside him. ... Jeez, he's tall, and that's just from sitting.]

About six months now, maybe half. I've been captain for a little less than that; when I first showed up, the captain's name was Sheena. But when she got sent home, well... [He took the job. But he still misses her a lot and all, and still thinks she's the better captain.] And I know people who've been here longer than me, too.

That's quite a long time... [Al's quiet as that sinks in. Six months, or more... that's how long he could be trapped here. Knowing his and Ed's quest had been put on hold, so to speak, until he could return didn't make that easier to bear. Six months or more added onto the time he had to wait to achieve his goal.]

But people do get sent home, at least? We're not going to be stuck here forever?

Yeah! [He smiles - Really, he's not totally sure if that's the case, but it's so much easier than thinking of what else happened to them, so he just settles with that explanation. It's easier.] I've known people who got sent back after being here for a long time, or no time at all. Had crewmates like that, too. And the people in charge here say that if we win this whole thing, we'll be guaranteed a way back home!

Well, that's good to know... that I won't be separated from Brother forever. Do they at least tell us how we're supposed to win? Seems like there's no real goal, from what I've heard.
