I got a message a few days ago that I've been assigned to a ship called the Vanquish... but since we're all still stuck here for now, I wanted to introduce myself to my crew. I'm Alphonse! I'm the gigantic suit of armor, so I'm a little hard to miss if you'd like to talk in person...

I wouldn't mind finding a sparring partner, either. I need to make sure my skills are still sharp.

The technology here is similar to what I'm used to, but slightly more advanced. The video games are very close, however. Which have you played so far?

Have you met the captain of the Vanquish yet? He will likely let you experiment once we are back on the ship, to determine your augment.

I'm rather attached to Super Mario Brothers, though I also admit I'm fond of all the dancing and rhythm games. I look ridiculous and clank a lot when playing them, but it's important for me to keep my reaction times and mobility sharp, and it does help.

Yeah, Clay seems very nice! I can't wait to see our ship.

[Mario's fun, even if Koushirou doesn't play many video games. He stays far away from rhythm games, though.

Is the armour a part of you?

[He's met Digimon made of armour so he figures that's probably the case and it's not all that weird a concept, but he's too curious not to find out.]

Hopefully we will return to our ships soon. We have been all together on the Marsiva for a few weeks now.

Yeah... I'm a human being, but my body and my soul got separated. There was an... accident with alchemy when Brother and I were younger. My real body still exists, but it's on another plane, I guess I'd call it, and I can't access it right now.

I wonder why Atroma's keeping us here in the first place?

[Oh. That just brings up a whole bunch of other questions, but he should probably save them. As clueless as he can be, he can still realize this is likely to be a sensitive topic and not one he should pry about immediately upon meeting someone.

What do you mean by alchemy?

We're supposed to be here for a reality show of some sort.

Alchemy, as it works in my world, harnesses the natural energy of the earth to deconstruct and reconstruct matter. One of the basic laws of alchemy is equivalent exchange- to obtain, something of equal value needs to be lost. So if your transmutation attempt is beyond your skill level and backfires... there's a cost. It's what happened to my body- Brother lost one of his legs, and sacrificed his arm to bind my soul to this armor and keep me in the world of the living.

Yeah, but putting us all together and having us sit and read and play games sounds pretty boring to me...
