[Oh. That just brings up a whole bunch of other questions, but he should probably save them. As clueless as he can be, he can still realize this is likely to be a sensitive topic and not one he should pry about immediately upon meeting someone.

What do you mean by alchemy?

Alchemy, as it works in my world, harnesses the natural energy of the earth to deconstruct and reconstruct matter. One of the basic laws of alchemy is equivalent exchange- to obtain, something of equal value needs to be lost. So if your transmutation attempt is beyond your skill level and backfires... there's a cost. It's what happened to my body- Brother lost one of his legs, and sacrificed his arm to bind my soul to this armor and keep me in the world of the living.

Yeah, but putting us all together and having us sit and read and play games sounds pretty boring to me...
