[For a little while, there is not steady broadcast. It cuts in and out long enough to show a face, a shoulder, ceilings, and maybe a wall or two, obscured by fingers covering parts of the camera. Once a while it's just audio, a few curses or other mutterings cut short. And sometimes, yes. You get incoherent keysmashes likejhdsakfhsdh and jdkl;ffnfffff.]

[Finally, it does turn on and manages to stay on, but its user seems perfectly unaware as,]

Oh, forget it!

[And down, down the communicator goes as its tossed over his shoulder. At least you can tell he's wearing nice boots before he kicks it away for good measure and sends it spinning across the floor.]

Yep, that's right. Mine is called Three Twins. There's a big fleet of ships, and by the end of the week you'll be on one of them yourself.

[Considering his lack of success in finding any controls around here to fly this ship, the idea of moving to another ship sounds like a better prospect. However, there is one small thing that takes priority over figuring out his chances at being a spaceship pilot.]

Will the same thing happen for Caesar?

Uh -- I don't know who that is. Is he there with you?

Of course he is. [A beat.] Well, he's obviously not in the same room as me right now, but he's here on the ship somewhere.

Then yes, he'll also get moved to a ship.

[ Look, you don't seem like the brightest bulb in the box, Jojo ... She had to ask. ]

Not sure which one, there's quite a few that have open space at the moment.

[Okay, you know what? ...That is 100% accurate and fair. Not that Joseph would share that opinion if he knew that's what she was thinking. He would actually take offense at it and probably get a little huffy, but he's oblivious and just believes it was a weird question.]

Uh ... off the top of my head, I think the only one without any open spots is the Blue Fish.

Blue Fish? Who the hell names these ships?

[That's a weird as hell name for a ship... Whatever, not important!]

Do you fly these ships or are they just set to fly themselves like this one?

Atroma does. Most of them are pretty stupid.

[ Seriously, if she has to hear one more person make a comment about how the Three Twins' name doesn't make any sense ... ]

Some of us have an actual pilot that can steer the ship, some of us are set to autopilot.

[Joseph's face lights up immediately. Okay, he should probably be asking about and/or paying attention to this Atroma thing, but what she just said is so deeply important to him.]

There are pilots? You're not screwing with me?

Uh ... no, I'm not. Everyone has jobs that are, you know, real jobs people would have on a ship. Pilots, engineers, captains, doctors, so on and so forth.

[Ino gets about as far as declaring that she's not before:]

Yes! [Actual fistpump and only vague listening to the rest of what she's saying follows shortly thereafter. Simple pleasures for simple minds. He's definitely going to have to tell Caesar later though.] Maybe this whole thing won't be so bad after all...

So what do you do?

[ She tries not to seem too exasperated. Mostly because she's not really sure he's taking this seriously. ]

I'm a captain, a medic, and a counselor.

[The time to worry is when Joseph starts taking anything seriously. At least visibly. Underneath his glib attitude though, Joseph is carefully considering a few things almost always.]

You must be pretty busy with all of that then. How'd you get to be captain?

[ino]

I signed up for it.

[ Mostly because Vash was picked on default and there was no way in hell she was letting that happen, but she's kind of a natural leader as-is, so ... ]

I'm used to leading teams back home, anyways. Not through space, but the ideas are generally the same.

Seriously? You can just sign up to be captain? [Well, he supposes that works, too. In its own way. As long as you didn't get someone inept in charge, anyway.] It sounds like your ship's pretty lucky.

You can if there isn't already a captain. I got here before my ship had one. --Or, I guess, if people think whoever is the current captain isn't fit to be one.

[ She blinks ]

Eh? Lucky?

You're obviously a natural at leading. They'd probably be in trouble if it fell into less capable hands.

[ino]

[ ... And now she looks amused, a little confident smirk on her lips ]

I do what I can, anyways. Next to none of us have any experience in space travel, so it's been a learning experience.

So what sort of stuff have you done already? Have you seen any aliens? Been to other planets?

[If he were sitting on a seat, he'd be at the edge of it.]

We've been to a lot of different planets and moons. And yes, they had aliens living on them. Though, honestly, most people in the Fleet are aliens to each other, too, so it's not that exciting.

I guess the casino waystation was kind of cool, though.

I missed a casino?

[There's some genuine disappointment in his voice. He's good at cards. Well, he's good at cheating at cards, but that's pretty much the same thing.]

[ Hey, she was cheating the whole time to win what she got, soooo ... ]

Yeah, that was about a month or so ago now. We'll probably be landing somewhere new soon for supplies and stuff like that.

No idea what that somewhere will be?

[ino]

We just follow the course the Marsiva sets, pretty much. Plus, even the people who travel space normally don't seem to know where the hell we are in space, so it's kind of a toss-up.
