[Beverly woke up this morning feeling strangely... invigorated. Looser, more carefree, and dare she say it? Happier than she's felt in months, ever since she first arrived on the Marsiva. To celebrate, she decided to head for the beach.

Which is where you'll find her now, lounging on a towel and reading a book that looks suspiciously similar to the ah... literature Dorian was so kind as to read out loud to the network a while back. At the very least, there's a ridiculous picture of a shirtless burly man in a plaid kilt on the front cover. As for her, well, she's wearing a very stylish green bathing suit and a big white sunhat, thoughtfully provided by a fan (who has thankfully saved you all from seeing her in some 1980s sparkly gold monstrosity instead). No doubt if you approach her, she'll flash a blinding smile your way and cheerfully engage you in conversation. Or better yet, some fun activities! Right now, she's up for almost anything!]

[She smiles and shakes her head.]

No, no, I'm perfectly content! Allen has offered me some shore leave already, and I intend to take every advantage of it!

I see. That's good then.

[Of course, Wanda has no idea who this Allen person is, but she assumes that he's likely Beverly's captain? Or superior? Someone who can grant her shore leave.]

I'm glad your captain was willing to give you a break. We do not have such strict measures on our ship. Everyone seems to come and go at their own discretion. Our captain does not really enforce anything.

[She can't help but chuckle at that. It's true that the Blue Fish is probably one of the most organized in the fleet but strict? Hardly.]

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to give you the wrong impression there. I should say, Allen insisted on me taking shore leave. It's not either his or our captain's fault I've been working so much. But I'm glad to know there is someone taking care of the clinic in the meantime.

Oh, so Allen is not your ship's captain then? He is your...

[Wanda lets her question trail off, letting Dr. Crusher fill in the blank.]

No, Sokka's my captain!

[PROUD SPACE MAMA.]

Allen is the other lab support, so we work in the clinic together!

Lab support?

[So her assistant was telling her to take a break? She must really have been working herself too hard. The thought gives Wanda a twinge of guilt, and she looks down briefly at her leg. The wound had left a gray, puncture scar on the back side of her calf. While she still was not a fan of the whole forced subject of a space reality show, she had to admit that it did lend itself to certain boons. Without the high-tech medical devices aboard Dr. Crusher's ship, her leg could have been in far worse shape. Wanda shakes her head and attempts to change the subject, trying to distract from the obvious attention she had likely drawn to her own injury.]

This Sokka [Was she pronouncing that name right? Her accent may have messed it up slightly.] is a good captain then?

[Getting her to brag about Sokka is almost always a good distraction (though she will still be surreptitiously checking out that leg to see how it is healing).]

He is! I admit I wasn't so sure at first, given his age, but he has very much proved himself, especially under pressure or in a crisis. [She grins.] Needs a little work on the first contact front, but he'll get there!

[Wanda cocks her head slightly both in confusion and interest. "Given his age?" He must be relatively young then. It had already become somewhat apparent to Wanda that the assignment of rank and ship profession seemed rather random, or rather at the whim of Atroma.]

He is rather young then? [Wanda smiles kindly.] The way you talk about him is like a proud mother.

[She laughs softly at that.]

Yes, I suppose I do... he often reminds me of my son.

[Judging from the tone of Dr. Crusher's voice as she mentions her son, Wanda is unsure how to proceed. The way Dr. Crusher sounded... perhaps it best to try and take it slow.]

Your son, what is his name?

[Don't worry, Wanda. She's too happy to get upset about Wesley, not today.]

Wesley! He's only a little bit older than Sokka... he's 22, Sokka is 19.

[At first, Wanda breathes a small sigh of relief as clearly talking about her son brightens Dr. Crusher's mood. However, her expression quickly turns to surprise when she hears the ages.]

19? Your captain is 19?

[That would make him six years younger than herself. Could someone so young, really be made captain? Well... if Atroma wills it, she supposes.]

That's right. [She smiles knowingly at Wanda's reaction.] It's not normal in my world either, for a captain to be so young, but we can't expect things here to be the same as what we're used to, or for everyone to have the same expectations and values as our own.

[Wanda realizes that her reaction may have been a little over the top. Again, considering how different things had been already, it really wasn't so strange to have someone so young as a ship's captain. What's more, Dr. Crusher seemed to respect his leadership, and she seemed sensible enough to not allow an irresponsible individual be in charge.]

Yes, yes you are right. I was just surprised. I suppose I must keep working on tempering my expectations for this place.

It can be a challenge, sometimes, learning and adjusting to new cultures, but I think you'll find it's worth it, in the end.

[Wanda nods her head in understanding. Though, she still looks like she's puzzling over the whole captain age thing. Nonetheless, she doesn't bring it up any further. Instead, she decides to try and go back to a subject that seemed to make Dr. Crusher much happier to talk about.]

Your son, Wesley... he is also a captain?

Oh, no no! He's ah... a student, I suppose is the best way to put it.

So he is in school?

[Wanda ponders over this briefly.]

You said he was 22? So university?

Not quite. It's more like... an apprenticeship.

Apprenticeship? So he works with his hands? A carpenter then?

[Although Wanda knows she and Beverly are clearly not originally from the same world, she is obviously not aware of just how different their too realities were before arriving in the Fleet.]

[She grins.]

No, no, though I'm sure he would make an excellent one, if he wanted to. No, Wesley's learning to maneuver through and manipulate space and time.

[And that is going to give Wanda pause. She is likely looking a little thunderstruck for a moment, before recovering into a more neutral expression. At this point, between battling with Gods, Monsters and Robots only to find herself whisked across worlds to travel around space still hasn't completely numbed her to such surprises it seems.]

Your son... he can do this? Travel through space and time?

Mmm-hmm. To be honest with you, though, I still don't quite understand how or why he has these abilities.

I take it then he did not receive them from you?

[She eyes Dr. Crusher a little skeptically at this. Not that she has any reason to think that Beverly is lying, but more so that she's trying to establish if her son might be similar to Wanda in how their respective powers "developed."]

[If Beverly notices Wanda's suspicious stare, she doesn't show it.]

No, nor from his father either. At least, that we know of. It could very well be some sort of dormant gene. Or it's just a random mutation, possibly the next step in human evolution.
