Eleventh ♠ Video
Who: Allen Walker
Broadcast: Video
Action: SS Blue Fish
When: Today!
[People who've been around the fleet for awhile might recognize the video feed coming from the Blue Fish's lab. Allen's standing behind his usual table, standing a bit...stiffer, than usual. Timcanpy can be found in the background, where he seems to have acquired a small straw sun hat and is using some tinfoil as a tanning screen in front of a lamp]
Hello all. For those who don't know me, I'm Allen Walker, one of the medics aboard the SS Blue Fish. Just a couple things today.
First of all, the bi-monthly blood drive is going to take place next weekend aboard the Blue Fish! If you wish to donate please fill out the form attached to this video. [The form that can be found here] Anyone who donates can be paid in either money or food. If you're interested in volunteering or you have any questions, please contact me. Any vampiric volunteers will not be allowed to sample or work directly with the blood.
Second, while I'm sure many of you are enjoying your time on the warm beaches, please remember to wear sunscreen if you're going to be out there for a long period of time. [He grimaces a little, as if he learned that one the hard way] Also please make sure to keep yourself hydrated, watch out for storms, and use proper precautions if you're helping with the fungus problem.
Lastly, if you're looking for a way to earn money aside from donating blood, remember you can always donate medical supplies to the clinics! Prices will vary on supply and demand, but I'm willing to pay you in either credits or this planet's currency. Right now, I'm sure any sort of sunburn or hangover treatments would be very much appreciated. If you're a lab assistant interested in having supplies sent to your clinic, please let me know.
Thank you everyone! Have a nice day.
[He gives a wave, and the feed cuts out. When the feeds over, he gives a sigh of relief, flops down in his chair and starts...playing that game Crowley made for the network. Yep. That stupid addictive game.]
[OOC: Due to time restraints, the blood drive this handwaved! If you wish to say your character donated, please fill out the information linked above!]

[24 hours here and she's been more confused in that time than she ever has been in her life.]

It's a medical procedure, using needles and tubing mostly. We take a small amount from a healthy adult and store it. And if someone gets injured and loses a lot of blood, that blood can be used to help replenish what they lost.

Forgive me, this is completely foreign to me so I'm a little lost. [More than a little, but she's trying.] So is it... like bleeding someone if they're sick, but instead you keep the blood? And they're not actually sick, but it can be used for someone who's injured...
[Man this would have saved more than a few lives back home.]
But how can it be stored? Doesn't the blood congeal or what not? Dry up?
no subject
[Hell, it's not even common on his earth. Thank you 19th century]
But yes, that's a good way to think about it. And it does congeal, but if it's refrigerated properly - er, put it in a box that keeps it cold, we can make it last up to two months before it becomes unsafe to use.
no subject
[She wants to find a schematic for that thing. Thedas could use those. Of course, there's the pesky issue of electricity, but... one step at a time.]
I am no physician, but putting another's blood in someone else seems like... Wouldn't that make someone very sick?
no subject
[His one true love next to the microwave. Giver of more food. The future is glorious]
If it's the wrong type of blood, or the blood being given is contaminated- then yes, it would make them sick. But with the proper tests to make sure the blood's safe, and then if it's administered properly - it's safe and can save a lot of lives.
no subject
They can test that sort of thing? [Hoooooooooow] Then again, they're flying past the stars so really I shouldn't be surprised. I wish we had this in Thedas. You're right, I can't even imagine how many lives this could save.
[Perhaps she can also bring this with her, if she can figure out the fridge and electricity. In the meantime...]
May I... donate?
no subject
[Prime Directive, what Prime Directive? ]
And yes! As long as you meet the age and weight requirements, we'd be happy to have your donation.
[Until it comes up positive for MAKERDAMN DARKSPAWN TAINT anyway]

If we can ever find a way out of this bloody Fleet, perhaps some of this knowledge can be passed around. Though there are a few things here I'd rather not spread to my world.
[Like these weapons she's seen. Thedas has enough problems; adding guns and blasters to that mix would worsen things tenfold.]
I suppose that depends on what those are. I am a healthy adult, that-
[Who just remembered that hey, she's a Warden and her blood is poisoned. Something about being away from home and from... everything has just tripped her up something fierce. She grimaces at her oversight.]
Er, scratch that. Contaminated blood... is there a way to clean that?
no subject
[And he frowns thoughtfully to her response]
That...depends. What sort of contamination do you mean?
no subject
It's... my blood is essentially poisoned. Have you ever heard of darkspawn? Or the Blight?
no subject
I've...heard of Darkspawn from my crewmate. They're monsters made of corruption and sin that come from the ground, right? [now worry crosses his face. Not for himself, but for the woman he was talking to] Were you infected by their corruption?
