[That's right, it's a ship mingle! While the crew of Vanquish have fun on the beach, or help the residents with rebuilding/the fungus problem, or shopping, or whatever strikes their fancy, they've still got to come back to the ship sometime!

As the rest of the crew return at points, they might find a growing collection of shells and little cups of sand and algae around the pilot's area. He'll organize it someday. Maybe.]

[That... was... a complicated question.

Rogue approached, but didn't take a seat. Instead, she put a gloved hand on the back of the chair and glanced around the kitchen, her augment filling her mind with potential uses for the place.]

They gave me a cookin' augment.

Cooking? [she pauses, thinking. That is pretty important to humans. And most other species.]

Well, better you than me. [who knew you had to crack eggs and use the insides, not the outside? Not Pearl.] Would you need any knives? I have to warn you though, they are made from obsidian, so they're sharp but brittle.

[aaand this one is done. She sets it with the rest of the finished ones.]

[Rogue reaches into her right boot and pulls out a knife sheath - the knife had, of course, been confiscated, but they had left the sheath. She'd missed it upon waking. It was one of Wolverine's survival rules: Never go anywhere without a good knife.]

Ya got one that'll fit in this?

[well, that's probably not used for cooking. Still, knives are definitely useful and she's got a million.

She winces though, when she sees that sheath.] These blades are thicker than what you would normally see with metal ones. [so they break less easily]

I'm assuming you used to have a steel knife of some sort?

[Rogue nods. That makes sense.]

Yeah. Just one of those straight, survival knives. The place where I was before didn't much go in for Swiss Army Knives, so the guy at the armory [Sokka, as it happens, and she remembers not to say his name] made me one for takin' care of [she makes air quotes] 'all your slicin' and dicin' survival needs.' [A small shrug and a smile.] It just feels weird not to have it on me after so long, you know? Not that I'll have to cut much kindlin' up here...

[stickupherforehead]

[Pearl chuckles a little. Slicing and dicing sounds like a phrase from one of Steven's ninja shows.]

Not much kindling, no, but it's better to have something rather than nothing when the need arises. [this ship doesn't even have an armory]

We can work on sheaths later, but here.

[Pearl is choosing two good knives, about the size of your old one, and placing them on the bit of the table closest to you. They're not the prettiest ones, but they're good and functional.]

Tell me if you like the heft of them.

That's true. [Yikes, no armory at all? That would be enough to get a girl hopping...]

Thanks. [Rogue takes hold of the first knife easily. Knives might not have been a weapon of choice, but she is very comfortable with them. She holds it easily and well for its purpose, then sets it down and tests the balance and weight of the other.]

These are both pretty great. An' you made them both out of obsidian?

[Pearl looks pretty pleased at the praise - and all the more pleased because you seem like you know what to do with knives.]

Yes. Obsidian is one of the more widely available materials on this planet and I've been needing a blade.

[And Rogue is pretty impressed! In fact, she gives a brief grin.]

That's pretty awesome. I wouldn't have thought of that. An' there have been plenty of times I would've been glad for a stone knife.

[Like, say, when going after someone who commands magnetism? Even though she'd never fought Magneto with the intent to kill, just the knowledge of his existence had made Rogue want to limit the metal she carried on her, after a while.]

Really? [well, she's just going to take that to mean that you really needed a knife but didn't have one. Either way, she's starting to get the impression that most of the humans here aren't the run-of-the-mill sort.]

Well, I have plenty here should those two break. Though I do plan on trading some of the thinner ones for whatever supplies I can get. Is there any sort of food you'd like and would be able to store?

[there's nothing else here she could really use or want. Might as well help out the humans OR having a million knives. Either or.]

That's a really good idea.

[And it is, a really, really good idea. Rogue finds herself warming to Pearl. Knives and awesome trading skills? Way to be useful!

She glances around at the kitchen.]

I should check an' see what we have around here 'fore I can really get back to you on that one. If ya hear about anythin' like coffee or chocolate, though, that'd be somethin' to snatch right up.

Coffee or chocolate. [Pearl nods.] I'll try, but don't get your hopes up.

[there might be algae tea, but who knows.]

No hopes up. [A wry twist of her mouth.] Got it.

[She glances around and decides to take a seat at the table.]

Have you always liked makin' things? [Rogue nods at the knives.] Or is it a new [augmenty] thing?

[Pearl starts working again, if only to keep her hands busy. She does chuckle a little though.]

I've always handled the more technical aspects in our little group, though to be fair I'm usually dealing with something a bit more advanced than this. [understatement, though she holds up the dagger to eye its haft]

But it seemed inappropriate to take our spare parts to build a robot, so I settled for this.

[Rogue blinks, confused. She initially takes 'our little group' to mean the Vanquish, but that doesn't make much sense if Pearl is used to more advanced equipment. Or does it? She... isn't sure.

So she just lets it go for now - maybe she'll circle back later. She is okay with prying information out of strangers, or if she has to, but with people she has to live with Rogue is very sensitive about issues of privacy.

Besides. Robot.

She perks right up, further interested.]

You usually build robots? What kinds?

[stickupherforehead]

[whoops maybe she should've been more precise] Well, I don't usually build robots.

[hmmm] I've repaired a few in recent memory, but as it stands, there hasn't been a need for one.

[and even then, she can simply use her holograms] I suppose you could say I build whatever's necessary at the moment.

[So it was something she'd done before she got here - at least, that was what Rogue took from the tenor of Pearl's responses. Pearl had also said she usually dealt with more advanced technology than this as well, and Rogue figured she meant more than just the stone knives.

She nods a little.]

Nice. [A quick grin.] I don't usually run into inventor types who only build what's necessary.

[She is looking at you, Tony Stark and the Talking Toaster.]

I am skilled enough in such tasks [probably made for it, even], but I prefer other methods of relaxation.

[hmm] That sounds like a very good way to build up a lot of clutter. [re: unnecessary projects]

[Rogue exhales, a brief, amused sound that is almost a laugh.] It sure is. An' half the time they barely work - 'least, that's the way it always seemed to me.

[Pause a beat. Consider... and dare to venture into something more personal.] What kinds of things do ya do for fun, then?

[Pearl pauses in her work, taking a moment to think.]

Well, I do like practicing with my spear. There's swordplay as well, but I haven't gotten one yet.

Does that count?

[touchofrogue]

[Rogue's eyebrows quirk upwards. Noooot an answer she had expected, but it's a stinkin' cool one.]

I don't see why not. I've never really gotten into swords, but I used ta practice with a bo and tonfas pretty regularly. I wonder if spear fightin' and bo fighting are similar.

That's just a staff, yes? I would expect much of the basic moves to be the same, though one could argue that the bo is more versatile under a variety of situations. With a spear, one usually focuses on the [hah] pointy end.

[Rogue nods at the question.] Heh. Makes sense.

[...and then Rogue runs out of conversing skills. She has more questions about the ship and how things work, but she really doesn't like impinging on people's personal space for too long. Still, they are in the kitchen, and she is just gonna... glance around hoping conversational genius will strike her before she abandons ship.]

[Pearl doesn't seem to notice any awkwardness, but plows straight ahead]

How are you when it comes to fighting?

[if there's one thing she knows about working on a team, it's that it's important to know what everybody's abilities are]

Pretty good. [She pauses, trying to figure out the best way to explain without getting into a Long Story. She isn't really any good at Long Stories.] I've been trainin' to fight in one way or another for over ten years. Had some more intense trainin' for the past... seven or so, I guess.
