[ katara is sitting crosslegged on her bunk in her room when the video feed starts. her expression is knitted and gently baffled. ]

So does this sort of thing happen often here? I mean, I've been here for a little while, but not actually very long - long enough to know more about losses, I guess, except we probably shouldn't call them losses here, should we? That's what we called them in Paradisa, but I think that was because Paradisa made you lose things all the time anyway, and at least no one here has turned into a bearcat or anything silly like that, because that's what I'm used to seeing more than anything else. Or used to be used to seeing, I guess, since it feels like I haven't been in Paradisa for a really long time now, but I'm really not even sure how I'm supposed to measure how long it's been.

[ she inhales, holds her breath, and seems a little exasperated with herself. ]

-- but my point is, whatever they're doing to us, or maybe just me, I'm not really sure yet, I should probably ask around? I guess this is close enough to asking around. ... oh, right, um, my question was: you don't think this is going to last too long, do you? Because I'm about to drive myself crazy.

[ someone is glitching, and has apparently lost all filter and ability to just stop talking. in her defense, she doesn't really look happy about this development. ]

[God lord that's a lot of rambling. Sure, Katara wasn't exactly laconic. But that was a lot even for her. ]

Yes! I mean, I wish I wasn't, maybe that would at least give me an excuse for all of this, but it's like I've lost all control of everything that I'm saying and things are just coming out, I feel like I'm back in the stupid castle with it messing with me again!

I wonder if your augment is glitching. That happened a few months ago to several people in the fleet.

What happened? Was it like the losses? Were they okay? I mean I assume everyone was okay, or else it'd probably be talked about more, and I haven't heard about it at all, so I'm sure things are fine, right?

[ allen this is so miserable and embarrassing, please do her a solid and kill her. :( ]

They're fine, Katara. [Though he's getting worried that you might forget to breath yikes] Everything turned out alright, we just got that statue out of it.

How about you stop by the clinic? I can run a couple tests to see if it's that.

Sure, sounds good. I mean, not good, I haven't needed to use the clinic here yet, especially since I got my healing powers back - did you know that I'd lost my healing powers? You probably didn't. I'm really glad they're back, though, and sheesh I'll be there in a minute!

[ she's just going to END THIS CALL before she keeps going. ]

[And he'll be there. Pulling out the file he made the last time this happened to review it quick]

[ and katara will poke her head in a few minutes later, lips pressed into a thin and slightly distressed line. it seems as if she's having to physically restrain herself to keep herself from talking. ]

[Oh the poor girl. He looks up from his folder when he hears her footsteps. He'll offer a smile]

Ah, Katara. Welcome.

[He points to one of the examine bed.]

How about you have a seat please? I just want to run a few tests to make sure you're healthy.

[ she just nods, her lips pressed together tightly. it pretty much looks like she's afraid of letting herself open the floodgates, and has resorted to absolute silence for now.

so, as instructed, she moves to one of the beds, taking a seat on the edge of it. ]

[ And he'll start taking her vitals- blood pressure, pulse, what not- so far everything's reading as normal... ]

[Though ugh, he guess he does make her have to talk. Poor girl]

Um...when did you start noticing the change?

[Yeah those are a lot of words at once and he's a little concerned. He'll just be carefully leaning in, looking around in case Aang is there, ready to OOGIE at her or something. The cost is clear, so he'll come in. ]

So. You're talking a lot. I have no idea what half of that was you were saying, but are you okay?

I'm fine!

[ she's SO EXASPERATED WITH HERSELF right now, sokka. this is humiliating torture. ]

I mean, I'm sure I'm fine, I'm not in any pain or anything, but it's like every single thought that actually comes into my head I just have to blurt out, and I really hate this, and I thought I'd be done with this kind of dumb thing!

[ uurgghh. ]

Ohhhhhh.

[Sokka nods, in an annoying self-important, know-it-all manner. So his usual thing, really. Casually, he taps the side of his head. ]

Yeah, Atroma do that sometimes. They play with your augment and make you a little screwy. Last time they did it to me, I had way too much energy, and then fell asleep without warning.

That's what Paradisa used to do to people. I told you that it swapped mine and Zuko's bending once, right? He ended up waterbending and I ended up firebending, except I could barely control it at all and he ended up really irate when I caught my curtains on fire, mostly because this was back before he could really stand me.

[ katara fixes him with a pitiful look. help her, big brother. ]

This is exhausting.

[That is so much talking to listen to all at once. Sokka zones out a little, staring into the middle distance. ]

Yeah. You mentioned that before.

[He offers a smile and a small shrug.]

You can't do anything about it, until it runs its course. Except maybe, I don't know, take up mime?

If it makes you feel better, my augment is glitching as well!

[...Beverly you said that way too cheerfully. Try again.]

That probably doesn't make you feel better, does it? I'm sorry, mine is interfering with my emotions.

It's okay! I mean, no, it's not okay - it actually really stinks, but it could be something way worse, and at least it's not like it's a secret to us, you know? Back when this happened in Paradisa most of the time people would have no idea that they were even acting strangely, but at least now I'm fully aware of the fact that I sound completely insane right now.

[ she gives her a strained, apologetic smile. ]

It's alright, you don't sound insane at all. Last time mine glitched, I really sounded crazy, since it was making me hallucinate. But it didn't last long, and there haven't been any lingering side effects, so I'm sure you'll be fine!

Hallucinating? It made you hallucinate? What sort of things?

[ THIS CONCERN is legitimate. ]

I mistook some of our crewmates as people from home.

Oh, no. Did you think it was actually them? I mean - did you think that they were actually here, and that that was normal? Or did they just look like them? Did it last very long? That could probably - I could see that being pretty upsetting. I'm sorry that happened.

I thought I was on my ship at home and that everything was normal...well mostly. I was aware something was off, because people weren't responding in the ways they normally would. But it only lasted a couple of hours!

[The hatch flies open courtesy of metalbending. For a few moments there's nothing, then a spare pillow comes flying down towards Katara, just missing hitting her.]

Here, talk into this! Some of us are trying to sleep!

[ LMFAO thank you toph. katara will just. take the pillow and scream into it like a melodramatic teenager. ]

[So she's pulling a Zuko. Cool, cool.

Toph wait a couple more moments before calling back down.]

Are you done?

No, I'm not done! I really wish I was done! If you don't want me to talk to you then you'd better just leave because apparently I'm physically incapable of not talking to people if they're in earshot!

[ all of this is blurted, muffled into the pillow. ]

[There's an audible sigh before Toph jumps down into Katara's bunk, hatch flying closed behind her. Since there's next to no room, she takes a seat on Katara's end table.]

I can always keep you from talking if you want. It'd be really uncomfortable, but the offer's there. [She's not joking or mocking, simply... putting it out there.]

It's not like it's painful or anything, Toph. Maybe - I don't know, socially painful, and at least I'm not blurting out my deepest darkest secrets or anything like that. It's just annoying, and frustrating, and I hate that I'm getting on people's nerves because I'm getting on my own nerves and there's no way it's not way more annoying for everyone else!

[ she makes a frustrated noise in toph's direction, just because she knows the other girl can't see the look on her face. ]

It's like I never learned how to be quiet.

[She's trying to be supportive, but it would be a waste to pass this up. Toph shrugs, leaning against the wall.]

It's not that different. This time it's just more blabber than preachy words.

[...Jeez, he thought he talked a lot sometimes without making a concrete point, but she lost him about halfway in.]

What the hell are you talking about?

[ ha ha ha... ]

I'm not even sure anymore. I just can't - ugh, I'm being told it's a glitch, have you heard of augments glitching?

Yeah, someone mentioned something about that to me a while back. It's making you do something?

Yes! Talk. It's making me talk so much. I can't stop talking, I've been trying so hard, and I know it's not really dangerous or painful or anything but it's still so frustrating. I just keep explaining things! [ she gives him a pained, apologetic look. ] I keep over-explaining everything.

[Joseph has to laugh at her misfortune. There are probably worse things that these augment glitches could be causing aside from talking too much. He wouldn't laugh at those. But this? Sorry, Katara.]

I bet you're really bad at keeping secrets right now, too, huh?
