[ the video is pretty brief, and comes with a backdrop of what is certainly the ss marsiva. stiles is confused, frustrated, and probably doing his best to come across as either aggressive or intimidating.

So. We're in space? I mean, we're definitely in space - but are we seriously in space? Deets needed, SOS, et cetera, et cetera. [ he cuts his eyes up, definitely glancing at someone off-screen and making a face that sort of says I have no idea what I'm supposed to be saying or doing right now, before he looks back to the communicator. ] Someone help the new guy out, here.

[ OOC: responses will come definitely from at least stiles, and possibly katniss, since she is a wary mcwary butt here. ]

'It ain't as bad as all that?' [Rogue shrugs.] I reckon it's cause places like this bring out the optimist in me. I mean, sure, we might be kidnapped, taken away from our homes an' responsibilities, friends an' families, an' stuck on a ship with food made out of protein paste an' no coffee, but no one is actively tryin' to kill us. And it seems like the people who brought us here have a vested interest in keepin' us alive.

[It's not much, but she knows it could be so much worse. Plus, she's on a beach. It could be so much worse.]

How sure are you that they're not trying to kill us?

[ she tenses some more. but after a moment it dissolves into slight confusion ]

Where are you?

[Rogue actually thinks both questions deserve due consideration, so:] Relatively? I mean, on a scale of 1 ta 10, at least an 8.5.

[8.5? ...yes, 8.5 sounds about right. She is relatively certain that at least right now, no one is trying to kill anyone. It's kind of amazing, when she thinks about it.]

An' I'm planetside. I'd say look out the window and I'll wave, but it wouldn't do ya much good.

I don't know how reassuring any of that is.

[ idly rubs the spot where her implant is, trying to be calm about all of this but it's certainly not what she expected or wanted ]

You have a name?

[At that, Rogue just shrugs. She can't make reassuringness (yes, it's a word) appear when the vast majority of the situation really kind of sucks. She tried her best to at least remove the immediate threat of it, and she figures that's really the best, and most honest thing anyone can do.]

I do. Do you?

[Her tone is casual, conversational.]

Yes.

[ Feeling very much like "i asked fist". certainly more irritated than casual ]

So after waiting a beat for the other girl to offer, Rogue rolls her eyes. Because where she comes from, 'you have a name?' is more challenge than polite inquiry, and she certainly doesn't feel the need to oblige either rudeness or 'whose is bigger' games.]

Good then, we've both got names. Glad we've got that covered. Did ya get the basic welcome speech already? You heard about how long you'll be on the Marsiva an' all that?

[ katniss ain't got no time for pleasantries ]

No.

[Rogue makes a small, thoughtful sound. Mostly, it's to sort her thoughts into priority of importance, partially it's debating whether or not to even continue the conversation. The fleet is full of many helpful people who have more time and patience for rudeness than she does, and she really doesn't think she does the best job in welcoming new people anywhere.]

Seems ta be a seven day cycle for the Marsiva to any of the other ships. That time should be comin' up, so you won't have to be on there for long. Once you're on one of the other ships, ya can get a shuttle ta take you planetside.

What good does that do me?

[ despite her brusqueness, Katniss does seem to be absorbing the information ]

Well... [There is a really long answer to this. Or a much shorter one. Rogue opts for the shorter one. She just turns her communicator around and lets it span what's surrounding her. The beach behind her, obviously. The village in front of her. The aliens who inhabit the place, a few other Drift Fleet personnel, the bazaar in the far corner of her view...

To Rogue, the potential benefits are obvious: natural sunlight, plenty of space, beach... people to talk to, information to attain, useful employment, not protein-paste based food...

She will mostly let the view speak for itself.] I don't know how long we'll be orbitin' this particular planet, but it'd be a shame to miss it. Granted, it won't guarantee us a pathway back ta where we belong, but if I knew anythin' that did that, I'd hardly still be here ta talk with you, now would I.

How long does it normally take before we move on?

[ intrigued, mostly by the natural sunlight ]

Not sure. [She turns the camera back around.] I haven't been here more'n a month yet. But I reckon we're on a bit of a schedule, so I'd be surprised if we'd be here more than a week or two.

...Got it.

[She nods a little.] All right.

[And as far as she can tell, the conversation has been run aground. She'll stick around a bit if there are any questions, but Rogue's not the best at exposition.]

[ Katniss is not afraid of long silences ]

...What is your name?

[...pffff!]

Rogue. It's Rogue. An' you are?

…Nova. I guess. I don't know. It's complicated?

...complicated.

[Not the kind of thing Rogue knew that she would want to get into with a stranger, but if Nova had raised the point, Rogue felt she deserved the respect of the obvious question. If she shut her down, Rogue would be okay with that. If explained, Rogue was actually an excellent listener.]

Complicated, how?

It's going to sound crazy.

[ mostly stalling for time while she figures out how to explain it ]

We've been kidnapped for the entertainment of aliens in an entirely different universe. [Her tone is wry, but it doesn't hide undercurrent of inherent kindness there.

And the kidnapping for aliens thing isn't even the craziest bit, it's just - the easiest common point Rogue can think of.] I can handle crazy.

[ sighs. she's relaxed slightly from before; slightly more open and resigned. ]

Right before I showed up here, I had been kidnapped to help fight an evil Darkness that was going to consume multiple worlds. The process to get me there wiped out most of my memories and I had to play games to regain them. I forgot my name, so my team helped me come up with Nova, and it's kind of stuck.

Anyway, we won. We beat the Darkness and I thought... you know. I was going to get my sister from home and then go with her to my b— my friend's world.

[ there's a small pause and a glance offscreen when she stumbles, but luckily the guy in the room is likely busy with something else and doesn't hear her? ]

[...oh.]

I'm sorry. [Rogue's voice was heavy with understanding.] It's something to have gone through all of that an' then to have to do somethin' like this too. It's not right.

[ she rubs at her ear ]

Whatever. I can't change it, right?

Not that I know of. [She tries for a small smile.] But hey, the knowledge that you've done it once has gotta be a help for doin' it again. You know you can get through it.
