[Castle is looking dubiously at his bowl of celebratory chocolate pudding- at least he thinks that's what it is- as he broadcasts to the network.]

Dear video diary,

Today is the start of my new life as a space reality TV contestant. It can't be much worse than paparazzi and serial killers, right? Right. I have been assigned to the good ship Windrose and hope to be an asset to her crew. Oh, diary, I do miss New York City, but I might as well make the best of things while I'm here.

[Upon exploring his new digs, it didn't take Castle long to find the tiny cleaning droids. He was attempting to line them up, but as they seemed programmed to go and clean on their own, he was having some difficulty.]

Come on, stand still and be a good robot army.

[Or perhaps you'd like to run into him elsewhere? Just name the time and place.]

Oh, so we're allowed to have pets? How kind of our kidnappers, right?

[He nodded.]

Theatre, to be specific- it's been her passion her entire life, though in her old age she tends to teach more than actually act. And sometimes her studio is unavailable for whatever reason, so I'll wake up and find a dozen college kids fighting with prop swords in my living room like it ain't no thing.

[He then frowned at the mention of space bugs.]

So our existence here isn't going to be all peachy-keen, then.

I don't think they could really stop us? Well I mean, they could, but people like cute animals. [She is aware that this is all TV.]

That sounds really fun! Not as fun as real swords, but you have to start somewhere.

I dunno, I think it's been pretty good. Like, we have work so there's something to do, and we're in space! How cool is that?

True. And I'm sure the animal lovers in the audience would just drink up the sight of us bonding with our pets.

[He laughed.]

I have to admit, it IS pretty cool. I've tried to convince my fiancee that we should get married in space, but she'll have none of it. ... of course, it's not like space travel is that easy for us, anyway, but I can dream.

It would be super cute! [Cute is very important. You obviously don't understand how important.]

You have a fiance? Aww, what's she like? You should totally get married in space, that would be awesome.

[Castle lights up in a visible way when he talks about Kate.]

She's a detective- one of the finest cops I know, in fact. I've been following her around for a couple of years. Long story short, I was briefly a suspect in a murder investigation because the killer was basing their crimes off the ones in my books. Once they cleared my name, I found my muse in Kate, and the rest is history.

Oh, cool, so like... Order of Justice stuff? They're all really good guys!

Wait, off of--oh, you're a. Um. Writer... person? Neat! I've never met one of those before. I don't think.

But she's your muse. That's super romantic.

Yeah, I'm an author- I'm actually pretty well-known back home for my mystery novels. Strange to come here and find that nobody's heard of me.

[He grinned.]

She wasn't quite sure how to handle it at first, especially because she'd been a fan of mine herself before I came crashing into her life. Kate's very dedicated to her job, and I think she wanted to be sure she'd still be taken seriously even after it was known she inspired a character. I make a point to not make the character exactly like the person, though.

Oh, nice! Do lots of people buy you drinks in bars? People buy me drinks all the time. Well, I mean they did. Until I wasn't allowed to drink any more. But it's kind of nice, right? You just get to be you and no one has any weird-ass expectations.

Aw, she was a fan? That's really sweet. [Basically chinhandsing here.] And you wrote about her? Aw, but that kind of stuff is so cool.

You going to keep writing here?

Sometimes- I actually wrote most of my first novel in a bar. It was a nice place to just let the ideas flow, and I could sit there for hours without people trying to usher me out. Not so much any more, though. I'm a single dad, so when my daughter was young I tried to party within reason as much as I could.

[He nodded.]

I thought so- and she came to like it, too, once she knew she wasn't going to have the same level of fame. Thankfully, people can separate the character from her inspiration. As for writing here... I probably will. It's not like I'm going to lack for inspiration, right?

Oh, awesome. I never saw anyone write in a bar before, but maybe we just go to different kinds of bars. I mostly hit military and ex-military places. 'S where the best fights are, right? But you have a kid too? Aw! Is she cute? What's her name?

Well, shit send to go down, so I guess? If that's what you mean. [She's not really sure how the writing thing works, like that, if it's the same sort of inspiration as painting.] I've been drawing a lot when there's time, so I think so, yeah.

Not too many fights- the place I liked was called The Old Haunt. It was a little out of the way, tended to be frequented by college students. I ended up buying the place when I had the money, in fact. [He brightened at talking about Alexis.] Her name's Alexis- she's in her second year of college. Bit hard for me to watch her growing up.

[He smiled.]

Well, I can take inspiration from things going on around me- people, too. Everyone does have a story, after all.

Oh, so you own a bar now? That's really cool! You get free drinks, huh?

Aw, so she's all grown up. That's awesome. [Considering average lifespan if not eaten by zombies? That doesn't make Castle old, in her estimation.] Hope you get to hang out with her a lot.

Yeah, that's true. Everyone's got something interesting going on with them. People are great.

I'll go back for a free drink every now and then, but otherwise I'm surprisingly busy. And yeah, Alexis and I are still pretty much attached at the hip. Thankfully she never got to the stage where she was embarrassed to be seen with her old man... except when I tried to scare her dates with fake severed heads, of course.

Aw, that's so cool. It must be awesome having family that close.

Oh gosh, you'd do that? It's so mean! I hope you don't make it too hard for her to get laid.

It's the best feeling in the world. [Castle smirked.] I didn't get to that point- she'd always stop me. Truth be told, she has me wrapped around her little finger. I don't think I could bring myself to go through with it.

I bet! [She wishes she had family like that. It sounds awesome. But...] I live with my partner, back home. That's really fun, too.

[Always e positive!]

Aw. You're a good dad, then. She's lucky to have you.

It's good to have someone there... knowing they're waiting for you to come back. My fiance feels that way about me whenever I'm not helping her on a case. [Castle looked a little wistful at that. It was sinking in that it might be a while before he saw Kate again- or Alexis, for that matter.] I feel like I'm lucky to have my daughter, too. She's a great kid.

Yeah. Maine's always got my six. I just hope he's not freaking out too much about me being gone. But he's a good soldier, he can take care of himself. [She's worried about him, but she can't really do anything about it right now. Other than name her fish Maine.] She sounds really great!

I have a cat. Well, she's Maine's cat, but she's also mine. Her name is Jellybean.
