It was almost too much to believe.

An unspoiled planet, clear blue skies, water as far as the eye could see. She pans the camera around to catch the expanse of beach with the ocean stretching out to the horizon, the sun glinting off the waves, a few puffy clouds wafting their way past.

"I will never tire of this."

She'll be on the beach, just walking along and taking it all in. Trudging through sand is not unfamiliar with her, but the sound of the waves is intoxicating and foreign.

[Vash nods his head and lets his eyes wander to match her gaze. He has also been unable to look away for very long from the ocean.]

Yes. My planet doesn't have anything even close to this. [He chuckles softly with a smile.] And here I was excited by the lake I saw on a different planet when there was something like this out there.

I'm not crazy about being here, but at least it can show me something new.

That's the best way to think about it! [He always loves it when people look on the positive sign.] With a view like this a kidnapping against my will into space doesn't seem so bad now. Still wish they would have asked first though.

[She eyes him, not disagreeing but generally not being familiar with such perky people.]

Certainly helps that it's a lot nicer than home. Almost wish it would have brought more of my people with me. [Almost. Almost. Not quite. No one needs more kidnapping.]

Yeah, I think I know what you mean. I'd like more of my friends to see this ocean, but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't appreciate being kidnapped to see it.

[She offers him a small thoughtful sound. Too much kidnapping indeed.]

What about your world, what was that like?

[Vash settles back with a sigh. He still has a happy smile on his face; it's just talking about his home has never been his favorite subject.] Not much to say really. My planet is nothing but desert. So it's hot and dry. Except at night when it can get freezing and dry. Pretty boring compared to a lot of places I've heard people talk about.

[So far, it doesn't sound much different than hers.]

Do you get sandstorms?

[Those could definitely be the complete opposite of boring.]

Well, yeah, on occasion. If the wind picks up. Sometimes the wind can get so bad they'll consider it to be a typhoon. You don't want to go out in weather like that, it could get you killed.

But you're the first person to ask me about sandstorms. You live in a desert too?

[Anything to get the conversation on something other than himself.]

Wasteland is more accurate, but yes. Stretches of dunes and scrubland, massive, engulfing sandstorms. Ever seen a red tornado under a black sky?

[Weather she doesn't mind discussing. She might even admit to having driven through one if it gets to that point.]

Can't say that I have actually. Mostly because if things got that bad the normal course of action is to run far, far away.

That's not always an option.

At least, not where I was from.

Really? Transport not good enough to get away from a storm that bad? Or is there no way to predict when it's getting that bad to have enough time to run? [Science is really lacking on Gunsmoke, but at least they have SOME sort of weather forecast for weather.

You could have the fastest, toughest rig and you wouldn't stand a chance of outpacing it. It was always smarter to reinforce your ride for the conditions than trying to avoid them.

[It was the people you wanted to avoid.]

Yeah, I suppose if it's already on top of you battening down the hatches is the best choice. Hm, although besides the sand steamers I don't think my planet has anything that could survive that kind of storm.
