[he is definitely the kind of person to pick up on contagious moods, and oh boy is her enthusiasm dangerously so.

he just grins and focuses right in, forgetting his food in the face of something way more interesting.]

Oh man, and it is so weird here. There's so much to get used to. And you're... a cook? That sounds way easier than what I got stuck with.

I'm supposed to be doing comms stuff and it's just... really kind of crazy.

[gleamed]

[ comms stuff...oh, right! that rings a bell, somehow. ]

Sooo...you talk to the other ships? [ or something along those lines? ]

[catamite]

Yeah, kind of.

I mean-- that's what I do, but there are all these rules, and this whole big console thing at the front of the ship, and just... it's kind of scary.

[gleamed]

[ it sounds a little intimidating, to be sure, but also... ]

Could I see it sometime? I-if it's not too much trouble, of course. I just - there's so much new to me here.

[catamite]

Sure! You want to see it now?

I mean, you live here too now, so it's not like it's going anywhere...

[but he's already licking crumbs from his incomplete lunch experiment off his fingers and abandoning it, pushing himself away from the table.]

[gleamed]

Oh, I'd love to see it now!

[ though his incomplete lunch doesn't go unnoticed by her either. well - she has her job to do around here, too! ]

Maybe after you show me, I could make you something to eat?

[catamite]

Oh, you don't have to do that.

[it's an automatic gesture of politeness. he doesn't even leave time to think about it.

and there he goes, scampering on ahead to lead the way back to the bridge to show her around--still in his swimming trunks, with his bare feet patting across the floor.]

Hey, so... how old are you, anyway?

[gleamed]

But I'd be happy to! [ her response is just about as automatic. she's so eager to please, but more than that, she just wants to do whatever she can for her shipmates. she's just so glad to be here.

still, she follows along. they'd get back to lunch later! ]

I just turned eighteen. The day I got here was my birthday, actually! Or, at least it was back home.

[catamite]

Oh, cool! So am I! ...Well, sort of.

[he glances back again as he leads the way down the hall toward the bridge.]

And you seemed, I don't know... younger, I guess.

[gleamed]

[ she smiles sheepishly. ]

Well, that might be because I...haven't spent a lot of time away from home yet! [ yes, let's put it like that. ] But what do you mean, 'sort of'? You're only sort of eighteen? Is it your half-birthday?

[catamite]

Oh wow. And now here you are, all the way out in space.

[a light little laugh that is probably inappropriate for the severity of their situation. oops.]

And I'm, like... actually twenty-five years old or whatever. But, going by the human standard equivalent, they said I'm like eighteen.

[gleamed]

Aha! I didn't realize elves would age differently than humans. [ not that she had any reason to assume otherwise, either - this is all really outside her experience.

REALLY outside her experience of like. knowing things about other people. ]

[hey, it gives him a reason to feel like he's actually got something to say. it works for him.]

Oh, yeah. Our eyes are different, too. Like, how we see things, I guess... And our bodies are just kind of better at being healthy than humans are, or whatever.
