Since it seems like the Iskaulit is going to be staying with us for a while, I'm kicking around the idea of converting a room or two into a medical clinic of sorts. Since not every ship has a medbay, it'd be useful for people on those ships to have another option, or for people who want a bit more privacy if they need a checkup or to get an injury looked at.

I know our medics are stretched pretty thin, though. Would this idea be feasible? I'm not sure, but I though it was worth bringing up anyway.

The lessons would be a good start. Sometimes, simple stuff can do a lot of good for everyone.

Nor does it cost a lot of money. Once the furniture's been bought, it's mostly replenishing the tea cart - and every ship's got a green tea dispenser.

And people like being able to do something in an emergency. If they can help tend the wounded and let the medics focus on the worst cases, it can be a big morale boost.

True- and there's always sponsors to give you crates of exotic new tea flavors.

It would free us up from the minor cases too.

"Exotic" being the key word. Tea's one of my favorites, but even I can't take pomegranate black currant or whatever's passing for trendy these days.

Exactly. So if nothing else, I'll at least be offering first aid lessons to anyone willing to learn.

:) I'm just reminded of the banana coffee Beverly got. Maybe they'd send coffee-flavored tea.

If I get a crate - and I doubt it, because my ratings can't be that high - I just want something that tastes normal. Not cinnamon chai. Not pomegranate green tea. Plain black is more than okay.

I doubted my ratings were all that great, but I've gotten gifts before. Like a case of watery beer- that was fun. And a swimsuit shaped like a mermaid tail for the beach.

Sounds like sponsor gifts, alright. I haven't gotten anything yet, but it only sounds like a matter of time.

Especially since they see that we're going to be making use of the Iskaulit. They'll want to "help" in any way they can.

Or maybe not, if that'll boost ratings.

Sorry, I'm still not sure why people would want to sponsor us to begin with.

Yeah, I don't really get the appeal of our show either, but apparently whoever's out there likes it.

You'd think they'd have better taste in television...

You'd think so, but then again, people back home liked even trashier reality shows. So I'm not surprised, even if I don't get why we're so interesting.

I figure, they wouldn't keep us if we were boring.

Doesn't make me judge our audience any less. Don't they have math tests to finish???

Yeah, I have to wonder who- or what- our audience is composed of sometimes. Humans? Some species we've never heard of before? Both? I'm not in any area of space I recognize and have yet to meet any species I know of from back home, so it's hard to know for sure.

You've got more experience than me. I've never left Earth before, so our audience is a complete mystery.

Even if they're not from any part of space we'd recognize, they've got better things to do. I'd hope.

I've been to a few other planets in my time, but admittedly, what I know of most other species is piecemeal from the experiences of others. Still, going into the great unknown isn't really my style.

I worked in the lost city of Atlantis, believe it or not- if your world has that legend, anyway. It wasn't exactly lost, it just flew to another galaxy.

Was it any different from the legends?

Well, aside from it being a gigantic island-like city capable of flight, it was also intact- so the U.S. military set up a scientific expedition based there. The story as I heard it held that the city was destroyed in a single night and sank beneath the sea.

The legend was the same for me too. I was more wondering if it had been destroyed and then rebuilt in space - guess that wasn't the case.

Thanks for humoring me there. Doesn't sound totally different from living in these ships, except bigger and probably better-stocked.

I see- no, it was still perfectly intact. It sank beneath the waves to avoid an attack and sat there waiting for some nosy humans to come along and wake it up. I wasn't there to see it rise from the seabed, but I was told it was breathtaking.

I'm just glad you were able to entertain the idea. I half expect people to react with disbelief to my story.

After being on the Fleet for a few months, I can safely say I've heard a lot stranger. You working in the lost city seems pretty normal in comparison.

Makes me wonder sometimes about the universe, and what some worlds have discovered and what's waiting out there in other ones.

True enough. Being here for a few months is enough to make you suspend your disbelief about anything.

Yeah, it really does. My team back home had some experience with alternate universes, and it's interesting what results from just a few things changing. My boyfriend met one of his alternate selves, and they were totally different in personality. He said it was creepy.

Creepy, huh...

[It hits a nerve for him, albeit unintentionally - he's been going through stuff with his friend from back home. Who may or may not resent him for being slightly AU from his canon self.]

I hope not in the bad way. Maybe the strange 'we don't look at things the same because we were raised differently' kind of way?
