and he doesn't really have a reason to, but he quietly flips his video feed on all the same. the best reason he can make in his head about it, is that he's been trying to establish stronger contacts lately, and contacts are valuable.

so, once the camera is on, he opens his hand in a hesitant little greeting.]

[When Cass sees him, her immediate response is a bright smile. She waves back, but she's learned a little from him, from Zhas. Lifting her hands, she signs hello to him.

Not particularly impressive, but it's something.]

[it's so weird to be greeted with a smile. a couple of people have done it lately, and it's still a little jarring every time. especially when he never returns the gesture.

she can see it, though--the subtle lightening of his features, right before the awkward glance away. it's not a smile, but it's close enough as far as he's concerned. the fact that she's going out of her way to return the signs only adds to it.

then he points at her, makes an easy sign of opening his hands like a book, and draws a question mark in the air with one finger.]
