Hey, guys.

[Eugene gives a wave to the camera, seated at his usual spot in the galley of the Vanquish. He's been making an array of flavored noodles by the looks of things, the hand-cut and variously-colored lengths of them draped out to dry on makeshift racks spread along the table.]

Serious question time - what do all of you do to not get crazy cabin fever around here? I mean, I'm not even a claustrophobic kind of guy. But this is a little too much sitting in a tin can, and I cannot be the only one wearing out the charm of their sudden knowledge of some random aspect of spacefaring life. You all have got to be cultivating some kinds of hobbies, right?

[He pans out across his work.]

Rustic-style flavored pasta to the best tips for things to do other than stare at the wall or carry out your work assignment. What's going on out there in the fleet at large?

Um. No. I mean Ration bars. But they're not actually ration bars, that's just what I call protein cubes. Because they're like rat bars.

[Surprise melts into chagrin, and he rubs at his face, nodding.]

That makes more sense, okay. Yeah.

[Let's just gloss right over that unblinking acceptance of rats as a viable food source.]

[Notice she didn't say anything against rats, herself. Things got pretty desperate, on the Line. Though she isn't a fan of eating meat that doesn't come out of a vat, given the option.]

Yes! Noodles are the best. Spicy noodles are even better. Just so you know.

I have spicy curry and spicy tex-mex flavors. I do think the curry flavor is pretty competitive when you pan fry it up with rehydrated vegetables and fish strips, but maybe I'm biased.

I don't know what Tex-Mex is. I mean, I know someone named Tex, but I don't know what she tastes like and... um. I know curry though! Curry is great.

Oh, man. Tex-Mex doesn't survive into the future? That's sad.

[It's not like, globally, there isn't enough delicious, cheap food to bring to the stars. But some hit closer to home than others.]

So you've never had a taco? Nachos? Anything like that?

Oh! Tacos, yes. I know those. There's this great place you can get super spicy chicken protein tacos. And another where you can get Martian Thai fish protein tacos!

Oh, man . . . Thai. I might be able to hack that in here.

[And he clunk clunk clunks his way up and over to the kitchenette, leaving the communicator where it is.]

What's Martian Thai taste like?

There's a lot of like... coconut and citrus flavors in it. And it's all vegetarian, not even vat protein. Lots of sprouts, so it's got that green flavor.
