Who: Pepper Potts-Stark and Anyone
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Totally Open to anyone on the First Breath
When: Now
[Among those new crew members is one displaced CEO, although this isn’t exactly Pepper’s first time waking up somewhere unfamiliar. No, the sad truth is that her first though on opening her eyes was that the Malnosso had gone back to their old tricks, that some new experiment or war required their presence. Her first shock doesn’t come until she sits up and reflexively tries to stretch her wings—
Only to discover they aren’t there.
A look over her shoulder confirms it, and only then does she begin to worry. Being in Luceti had so often been a hardship, but at least there Pepper had some idea of what to expect. To discover she’d been taken again, seemingly by some different force and potentially to a different universe all together, doesn’t exactly inspire warm feelings.
She doesn’t have long to mull it over though; so soon after she wakes Pepper is being ushered to some other place—some other ship as it turns out, and with no real explanation she finds herself exploring an entirely new space, looking for both answers and familiar faces, one in particular. Rather than that comfort, however, her tour that brings with it some unexpected (and unwanted) surprises—particularly when she comes to the communications panel on the bridge.
Although the problem isn’t that she’s unfamiliar or confused by the numerous controls, as one might expect. As she looks over each switch and screen, Pepper immediately knows their purpose, blanks in her mind filled in before they’ve even properly formed. A stray thought questions if this might be how Tony’s mind clicks on when he looks at some new piece of tech, which isn’t exactly comforting.
Still, if she can broadcast, then maybe she can find those answers she’s looking for, not to mention the people. If not Tony himself, then someone else from either Luceti or her world or both. If this place is anything like the one she’d come from, then those connections would be vital to enduring whatever they were put through.]
Hello, everyone. I’m not sure if this is how it’s typically done, but my name is Pepper Potts-Stark. I’ve just arrived here, and was hoping someone could provide an explanation as to what’s going on? [A pre-written guide would be nice, but Pepper’s not counting on her luck being that good.]
Also, is there a way to tell who else has been brought here? Or to contact someone directly. [There’s a number of people Pepper certainly wouldn’t mind having around, especially depending on just how much this set of ships has in common with Luceti.] Thank you for your time and your help.
[Short, simple, and out.]

Re: Video
Granted, they hadn’t been husband and wife there, but details.]
May I ask who you are?
no subject
[She mutters the line at a just barely audible level, shakes her head and then answers Pepper's question.]
Wanda Maximoff. I doubt that name sounds familiar. Your husband does not share much of his work with you I take it?
no subject
What’s more curious is Wanda’s assumption that Pepper wouldn’t know her, which is correct, and that she also wouldn’t know Tony’s work, which isn’t.]
Well, it depends on what you specifically mean by his “work,” but given that I’m the CEO of Stark Industries I’ve got a pretty good idea. [Maybe not just what direction it takes in the future, but as of late Tony had been much more focused on his suits, she has to wonder just what Wanda is referring to. Luckily her time in Luceti taught her many things, including just how flexible timelines could be.]
Given that you don’t expect me to recognize you, can I assume you’re from the future?
no subject
You are the CEO of Stark Industries? Well, that makes sense. I imagine Stark's other interests take up too much time to devote to much else.
[Wanda would file this bit of information away for later. Admittedly, she had not known about Pepper's position as the head of Stark Industries. Her time spent with Hydra and Baron Struker had left her somewhat in the dark about things that had happened while she was... well, a test subject.]
You are likely assuming correctly. It depends on what the last date was back home that you remember.
no subject
And while Wanda isn't wrong in her reasoning, Pepper would be reluctant to talk about those interests with someone she trusts. Wanda isn't one of those people.]
December 2013. [Plus an extra year and a half thanks to Luceti, but that's not relevant at the moment.] Shortly after the Mandarin kidnapped and attempted to kill the President of the United States. When are you from?
no subject
The year I am from is 2015.
no subject
What happened? To make you so mistrustful of Tony, I mean. [Something in the future or the past; she already knows that learning about events to come carries a burden, so Pepper instead focuses on what she might be able to do something about.] It’s clear you aren’t a fan.
no subject
Whatever my feelings towards Stark may be now. I do not consider him my enemy. It is true that I do not trust him, but I also have no desire to harm him.
[She lets a brief pause still the air before she throws a stone at it.]
Not at the moment anyways.
no subject
You didn’t answer my question. [Sure, she’d offered some form of reassurance, but Pepper isn’t just going to leave it at that. With no real idea of who this girl is or what she might be capable of, what she could or perhaps even has done to Tony that Pepper has yet to experience, she needs to at least find out why.] So while I am glad to hear that you don’t intend to hurt him, I’d still like to know what caused all this in the first place, to avoid any future issues.
no subject
I distrust Stark for the same reason that I now distrust you. You are in charge of Stark's company. That means you are in charge of a business that prospered off the deaths of innocents, manufacturing your tools of war.
If that is not reason enough for you, than I know of several others that I could provide.
no subject
But that is far from all that Stark Industries is, so she doesn't look away from the feed, nor does Pepper relent in the face of that anger or accusation.] There’s no changing that, and no making up for it. But we also stopped manufacturing weapons years ago. As a company, our efforts are now focused on improving lives through technology: medical advances, crop production, clean and reliable energy. Not to mention the lives Tony’s personally saved as Iron Man.
It isn’t the same company as it was when it was run by Howard Stark or Obadiah Stane, Miss Maximoff. We're very careful to make sure of that.
no subject
You have stopped making your weapons, but have you stopped them from being used? Have you stopped the deaths of innocents, whose lives were taken by one of your Stark missiles?
But you do not care about that, do you? You only care about the good will your little change in manufacturing will bring. Well, it will not bring back those who have died. Your hands can never be washed clean of their blood.
[A brief pause before she decides to add one final nail. One definitive reason why she still harbors some animosity towards Stark and his company.]
My parents' blood.
no subject
Tony has devoted his life to exactly that. Do you know, Miss Maximoff, that the first thing he did when he donned the Iron Man armor was to find out where those illegal weapons had been sold--without his knowledge or consent, I might add--and to destroy them?
[There is only the mission, and even years later, Pepper can still hear those words ringing in her head.
Yet there's more. She might have guessed that it's something far more personal, but to hear her parents were killed? That gives Pepper pause, a moment when she swallows and wonders what she can even say. There are truths, that Pepper herself had been but an assistant for a decade, arranging public appearances and parties rather than any true aspect of the business. But truth or not, it feels like an excuse even before the words form on her tongue.
So after that silence, she lets out a slow breath, her eyes closing for a moment.] I am sorry for your loss. I'm not going to pretend that anything we do can make that right. All I can tell you is that Tony is a far different man, just like Stark Industries is a different company--but you have every right not to believe that.
no subject
You are right. There is nothing you can do. And you are right that I do not believe Stark or his company has completely changed.
But... He is different. The Stark here more so than the one I know, but they are both different.
Stark wishes to do good. To fix his mistakes. It burdens him though. He tries to hold it all on his shoulders, and he fears that if he cannot balance it all...
It is this fear that will drive him to make more mistakes. Lives will be in danger. At some point, he will not be able to fix it all on his own. He will need to rely on his friends... his allies... He is scared of losing them, though he will not admit it out loud.
He will lose them though. If he does not trust them. If he does not believe in them.
If you care about Stark... help him to understand this.
