[Security augment means, even if she doesn't trust them, Miah should probably practice with those guns that are provided. But there's not exactly a lot of room to practice. So, Miah can be found in the cargo bay, with some of the space junk Marhi has fished up set up as targets for her to practice shooting at.

She's hit the wall a few times and it's making a horrible racket. And in the middle of the night, no less, being naturally nocturnal. Sorry, Huntress.]

[A concerned captain soon stumbles into the room, in a half-awake stupor, rubbing at his eyes as he tries to make sense of the situation and muttering irritably.]

Why? Why... with the guns... and the nighttime?

[Miah pauses her fire.]

Is it nighttime? I apologize.

Yep. [He rubs at an eye lazily.]

If you don't hear anything but snoozing, then it's nighttime.

I mean... Shouldn't you be tired, too?

I am a Keeper of the Moon. We naturally shun the day, and keep to the quiet nights.

But there is neither sun nor moon to mark the passage of time aboard these ships.

Keeper of the Moon. [He presses his hands together as he takes that in.] Okay, that's a new one.

So that explains a lot. You're kind of a night owl. That's... that's perfectly fine! But you have to be aware of us... sleeping and stuff, too.

I did not realize the time. I apologize.

Hey, hey, don't worry about it. You didn't know! And now you do. So you can keep that in mind next time you want to... um... shoot your guns?

It is training. We know not when we may come under attack. So until I may acquire a sword, I must become acquainted with these if I am to fulfill my duty.

Okay, okay. That's fair enough. Training is a good thing! We always have to be prepared. For... things.

We'll just have to... work out a better schedule for this.

I suppose we shall. I will return to this during the day.

[ Someone's been quieter than usual. Not that some of you would notice given the fact she's too shy to say hi to a bunch of adults 99% of the time, but instead of doing much else she's been spending a lot of time in her room writing and drawing things.

Life is a lot harder when you're on a tiny ship and there's only like two other people about your age around. ]

[Well, someone might notice the dip in volume around the ship. And it's definitely time to check in on the daughter, memories or not.

So he barges right into the room while greeting her with a cheery smile.]

How ya doing?

[ It's not really a surprise that Cory's around, but it does kind of manage a start from her drawings when she looks up. And looks momentarily confused. Has it been fifteen minutes, Cory? Have you missed her? ]

Hi, daddy. [ It's said as easily as ever, at least, even if she scrunches up her face. ] Okay, there's not much to do here. On the ship.

[He'll always miss her, especially without anyone else in the family around. The brillo-headed captain's own face scrunches slightly, but in confusion.]

What do you mean? Riley... We're on a spaceship! We are literally flying through space and exploring the cosmos. How could this be so boring? [Of course, the way that he phrases it makes it sound like he might be just as bored.]

Suuure. We're doing that, but we spend more time on the ships then out there. And almost everyone's adults. [ Which is kind of boring, tbh, but that's not the biggest problem. ]We don't have schools or games to do here, so I don't know what else to do. I've done everything.

[He nods along in understanding. It kind of does make sense when she puts it like that. When was the last time they hit up a way station?

But one part of that sentence really speaks to him, and reminds him of something he's been missing. A sinister grin slowly rows across his face.]

So what you're saying is...

[He closes the door sinisterly.]

...You miss school. You miss being in class! Riley, all you had to do was ask.

[In space, no one can hear you scream.]

[ Cory. Cory. No. This is not what she wanted at all. Oh, no, it's suddenly like a horrifying stop. She wanted to be with her friends in class, it was true. But!! ]

Dad.

What are you doing?

[That look is terrible she wants to hide, there's no where to run.]

[He poses with his hands on his hips, trying to evoke the image of a history teacher who is obviously the secret identity of a superhero. He probably comes across more as a dork who is trying too hard, which is probably more par for the course.]

You mean Mr. Dad! Or Mr. Matthews. Or... you know, you could still call me Dad.

But what I'm doing is my job. My real job. It's time that we made up for some lost time, little lady.

I've never called you mister anything in class before.

[ WHY THIS. It's not like she doesn't want to learn, she does, but it's just not the same. It's been months since she was in school last-- well over six months, when she thinks about it. And that's even more terrifying, but she can't say that. There's definitely been lost time. ]

But we don't even have a class. Or textbooks. Or anything.

Not even Mr. 'Hey My Dad's The Best'?

[But he waves his hands to shake away her objections.]

We don't need that stuff. All we need is a teacher, and a student. And, what do you know? We got both of those right here!

[ WOW RUDE. ]

How are you supposed to teach without a textbook? Does history count out in space?

Riley, how many times do I actually use the the textbook? Don't worry, I've got this.

And history always matters, even in space. No matter how far away we are, it still makes up part of who we are. And there's still so much we can learn from it.

We've us it. We've even used it a lot, I bring mine and Maya's to class every day. Do you think I'd do that if we didn't use it?

Yeaaah. But there's a difference in history and your life lessons. Maybe someone will get offended by history out here.

In the beginning of class, at least. And for homework. [But not for the important life lessons!!] But, that's besides the point.

Well, history isn't very pretty in itself. It makes sense that not everyone's going to be down with it. But that's no reason to put it to the side and to cut people off from learning about it.

It's totally the point, dad. It's just our history lessons and always wrapped up in your life lessons which is always about something going on. But I don't think anything's going on up here. [How do you life lesson her life when she's hiding in a room?! The existential crisis.]

What good does U.S. history do us fifty billion miles away from even our Solar System?

[A LEGITIMATE QUESTION. That may or may not be trying to get out of class who knows. Or maybe she's just distressed by the idea.]

[That's enough silence from the tiny (who is, in fact, significantly taller than her) that Miah gets worried.

She's knocking on Lark's door now, sometime at night.]

[ (Are you upset she's taller). It's only after a bit of shuffling she opens the door and looks somewhat confused. Look, she's used to people just barging in. ]

Hiiiii?

[Lark, I regularly stab gods to death. I have zero complex about my height.]

Good evening. Are you well?

I don't think I'm feeling sick, so I think I am.

There is more to wellness than the body.

[ Elize can't stand staying cooped up in her room too long, even though she can keep herself occupied doodling on papers. It gets lonely. There are people who do take the time to play games with her, but even they need some time for themselves.

So, she decides to stretch her legs and check on her shipmates. She has never been inside Riley's room before or spoke with the other girl much. When she approaches the door, she gives it a few small knocks. ]

...hello?

[ It's true they hadn't talked all that much as they should, but she certainly wanted to. It was just weird since she didn't think Elize liked her and she was the kind of child who aggressively wanted to be friends but also didn't want people to hate her so she hid. Which was maybe what she kind of did, even if she worried and wanted to try.

Which is why it's most certainly a surprise when the knock on the door arrives and when she opens it the furrowed brow-- one wrought by the amount of people who actually knocked instead of barging in-- turned into one of surprise. ]

Hi. What's up?

[ Don't worry, Elize just wants to get along with everyone on the ship. Her own shyness may have been putting her off from getting to know Riley better. It's easier for to befriend others when she can cling to her stuffed animal, but he's not here unfortunately.

When the door opens, she looks mildly concerned, hoping she hadn't disrupted anything. In one hand, she's holding a piece of paper by her side. ]

I just wanted to visit, if that's okay.

[ Swings the door open wider. At least her desk has been pushed aside to in front of the window and is covered in pillows and blankets like a makeshift bay window. And there's plenty of tiny bunny drawings and butterflies.

She smiles readily though, easily, like this is what she's been waiting for. Probably because she has. ]

It's always okay. My room's open whenever for whoever.

[ Her lips crack into a small smile. A nervous one, but genuinely happy that she's being welcome. She lifts up her piece of paper in front of her chest, facing the blank side towards Riley. She's kind of embarrassed, tempted to hide her face with her paper. ]

I drew something for your room. Umm... if you want more decorations...

[knock knock, Huntress, Nightingale is here to visit her teammates. Unfortunately, she kind of got lost, so you have her wandering your halls, talking to herself like a crazy person.]

How did I get turned around in something this cramped?

[Is she talking to herself...? Cory's afraid of interuppting her, but she looks like she could use some directions. So he slowly steps towards her with a light smile.]

Hey. Um... Earth to Nightingale?

[She's startled enough she nearly jumps out of her skin, from the looks of it.]

Fuck- What- Sorry? What about Earth?!

Nothing specific. You were just in your own little world, Nightingale, and I wasn't even doing a history lecture.
