Um, hi. I'm Kate, and I'm... new. That sounds dumb.

[And awkward as hell. This feels like her first day of high school all over again, only instead of introducing herself to a tiny class of teenagers she's got to say hello to an entire fleet of people from different worlds. Not a lot makes sense about it, but she's trying her best to roll with the punches. Kate's had a little bit of time to get used to things, to get a good idea what's in store for her here, but it's still left her with some questions.]

I guess you could probably tell. I was just wondering, though, because it seems like these ships have been around for awhile and everyone's so used to all this, and-

[She's rambling. She stops, shakes her head, tries again.]

I just wanted to know how long people have been here, that's all.

[Okay, so all that pudding? That's definitely something Kate is interested in eating. She's even got a spoon she'd found after sorting through drawers, and it's been months since she had pudding, okay.

But is it for her? Can she just take it? If Seth were here he'd have pulled up a chair and put his feet up and told her to get to eating the entire stash, but Kate likes to think she's at least a little nicer than Seth is.

So she's just kind of standing there. Looking at the pudding. Hopefully.]

[Dusty Moon Place]

[Her first stop once she tries heading to the moon is what's very obviously a chapel. She's drawn to it like a moth to a flame and anyone who might head inside after her will find her sitting in the very front row, head tilted down and eyes closed as she prays. She has a lot to say to God, but more to ask, and it's mostly protection. For her family, Seth, even Richie. Her hands are clasped tightly in her lap, but if she hears someone approach she'll look up and give them a smile.]

Oh, hi. I didn't think anyone else was going to come in here.

I'm definitely not used to it. It hasn't been that long for me, but I haven't really been keeping track. That's probably terrible, huh.

[ her tone and facial expressions don't seem to say she thinks it's terrible though ]

I guess it depends on where you came from. I kinda got the impression there are a lot of places worse than here.

There are, as far as I can tell. I don't like the reality show aspect, though.

[Yeah no that part is kind of gross, isn't it? Kate nods, frowning faintly.]

We had all kinds of shows like that where I'm from, but the people in them were always doing it of their own free will. This just feels weird.

[Simon couldn't help but smile a little when he came across the broadcast.]

I just hit 6 months myself. Some have been here even longer.

People only get used to it because they don't expect space to get so old so fast. None of us actually knows what we're doing.

[Or whatever helps people sleep at night. The rest is meant to be joking, but it's hard to tell on his mug sometimes.]

Why so nervous, Kate? You don't got somethin' to hide - right?

Neither did I.

[ He's not a praying man. Even worlds away the chapel is the quietest place around, and whatever God listens here — that's an unkind thought. She's just here to pray and find peace. ]

[Octavia's grinning, clearly joking around with her.]

Yeah? I'm in one back home, but... well, it's complicated. Not exactly doing it of my own free will.

Oh...

[That sound pretty freaking terrible, all things considered. Getting plucked out of one forced reality show only to be plopped into a new one? What kind of cruel joke is that?]

Is it like here? We're kind of forced to go along with it here because we can't exactly leave.

Here is better, actually.

[ she doesn't really seem like she's going to elaborate on that ]

[Hopefully because her awkward was endearing and not for other less polite reasons, Simon.]

Six? They've kept you here six months?

[Oh... okay, it's gonna be like that apparently.]

Did you immediately get used to being here or something?

No, it's okay.

[Look she's even moving over so he can sit down.]

It's not like I've got a monopoly on praying or anything. I'm Kate.

Oh I've been here so long at this point I've lost count. Which ship did you end up on?

[and on her feed appears a smiling face-- just a little too pretty, too perfect, with coloring that isn't quite natural.]

It's a survival tactic.

...Appear to know what you're doing, and someone just might believe you.

[And Kate's not going to pry, but more than that she's really glad she didn't ask about the reality show this girl was from before now. It must have been terrible to cause that kind of unwillingness to talk about it.]

Then I'm glad you're here. What's your name?

[Alarm bells softly ringing in the distance. She hadn't actually wondered before this exact moment if there would be culebras in space, but congratulations, Tek. You're now giving off massive waves of Mexican Dracula.]

You must be at the top of the food chain, then.

Nova. It's kind of a nickname, I guess. I was somewhere else before I was here, and I got it there.

You're Kate?

[Nah, she's just from space.]

Man, that must we weird, huh? I'm on the Wonderduck. Weird name.

[you know... it's probably somehow not the first time. and the fact that his teeth might look sharp on the little screen probably doesn't help either.]

I like to think so. [he grins a little, just emphasize.]

...And, it's almost a year, by the way.

Eleven months. And trust me, sometimes this space stuff confuses the heck out of me, too. We're not as great at is as we look, we've just got more practise.

Yeah. [And maybe she shouldn't ask, but-] Do you remember your name from before?

[At least the Golden sounds pretty normal. Who names these things?]

Would you mind if I came to visit sometimes?

[She feels a little awkward asking, but Octavia's one of the first people she's talked to. Friends at first sight? Maybe!!]

[Wow, yep. Culebra chances have increased. Is there somewhere around here to get some stakes because that would be really nice.]

Have you been here the longest? Someone else said six months.
