Um, hi. I'm Kate, and I'm... new. That sounds dumb.

[And awkward as hell. This feels like her first day of high school all over again, only instead of introducing herself to a tiny class of teenagers she's got to say hello to an entire fleet of people from different worlds. Not a lot makes sense about it, but she's trying her best to roll with the punches. Kate's had a little bit of time to get used to things, to get a good idea what's in store for her here, but it's still left her with some questions.]

I guess you could probably tell. I was just wondering, though, because it seems like these ships have been around for awhile and everyone's so used to all this, and-

[She's rambling. She stops, shakes her head, tries again.]

I just wanted to know how long people have been here, that's all.

[Okay, so all that pudding? That's definitely something Kate is interested in eating. She's even got a spoon she'd found after sorting through drawers, and it's been months since she had pudding, okay.

But is it for her? Can she just take it? If Seth were here he'd have pulled up a chair and put his feet up and told her to get to eating the entire stash, but Kate likes to think she's at least a little nicer than Seth is.

So she's just kind of standing there. Looking at the pudding. Hopefully.]

[Dusty Moon Place]

[Her first stop once she tries heading to the moon is what's very obviously a chapel. She's drawn to it like a moth to a flame and anyone who might head inside after her will find her sitting in the very front row, head tilted down and eyes closed as she prays. She has a lot to say to God, but more to ask, and it's mostly protection. For her family, Seth, even Richie. Her hands are clasped tightly in her lap, but if she hears someone approach she'll look up and give them a smile.]

Oh, hi. I didn't think anyone else was going to come in here.

[Alarm bells softly ringing in the distance. She hadn't actually wondered before this exact moment if there would be culebras in space, but congratulations, Tek. You're now giving off massive waves of Mexican Dracula.]

[Anders how do you expect any teenage girl to pay attention to anything you say when there's a cat rubbing on their shoes? Kate bends down to to offer her hand for sniffs, because only barbarians pet first and ask questions later.]

There's definitely too many for me to eat on my own, so I wouldn't mind sharing. I've tried that gel stuff, I bet you're ready for a break from it.

[ katara is smiling a little at the video here. she's trying to be welcoming, but that can be suck a tricky thing to land when you consider how differently people react to being brought here. ]

About... six months, I guess? But I was taken somewhere else before this, too, so maybe that helped me adjust. I'm Katara.

[Like most people, if she had her choice Kate would definitely be back in her own world right now taking care of the people she left behind, but it's clear by now that dwelling on being stuck in space won't get her anywhere.

Finding out so many people have been on this reality show for so long doesn't exactly give her hope, though.]

So- you were taken from your home to another place like this, and then taken from there to here? [wtf] Does that happen a lot?

[Her parents did teach her not to be selfish, after all. And the welcome is so warm Kate can't help smiling, ducking her head and tucking a bit of hair behind her ear as she takes in all that enthusiasm. It's kind of nice, after a month of living with the world's biggest grump.]

Has it been a long time since someone new has shown up, then?

I've been here a few months now, but it feels like it's been a lot longer at this point. I wish I could say you get used to it, but it's still kinda weird.

[A beat before she smiles a little more.]

I'm Elena, by the way. Should have probably opened with that.

[It's honestly more comforting to hear that than to be told that this sort of thing should be something Kate can adjust to immediately, so thank you Elena for being realistic about weirdass circumstances. Kate answers Elena's smile with a grateful one of her own.]

It's nice to meet you. It's kind of nice, knowing there are other teenagers here.

[Mal is approximately zero percent religious. Still, she's sometimes drawn to chapels in the same way that an archaeologist might be drawn to a ruin: she doesn't think there's anything actually happening in there, but it's educational to look at.]

[There's a fervency in Kate that reminds her of Wazzer, which is the only reason she lingers, and when she's spoken to, she tips her chin up and shrugs.]

[Hmm. That's the kind of thing that Seth might do if he was intrigued with something but not wanting to admit it, or not wanting to do anything about it if he did admit it, so it's kind of immediately got Kate a little extra interested in this whole exchange.

Plus it's just nice to see someone else in the chapel.]

[Man, it seems like a new person is showing up every time he leaves the ship now. He almost wants to stay on the ship for a bit because of that, just to make sure to catch everyone in time, but...gathering repair parts on the planet still sort of takes priority, for now, since Megaman's one of the engineers and all.

And so here he is now, fresh from another bout of said part-gathering, a kid in an aggressive amount of blue stepping into the kitchen with a basket full of metal bits and...oh, that sure is confetti everywhere. And that sure is a new face standing over there. He stops short.]

--Oh. You're new too? Hello... [He frowns a bit, blinking and noticing the spoon in her hand at length.] Ah, did you want to eat something?

[He lost God in the War. Lot of men did. He's heard it said that there are no atheists in foxholes, but maybe he was just ahead of the curve. It's been five years since he set foot in a Church that wasn't burnt out or re-purposed as a theatre of surgery. No matter how many times he walked past Saint Patrick's in Brooklyn, he could never quite bring himself to walk inside. one day, maybe.

This Chapel, beautiful as it is, doesn't have the same connotations as the ones he's familiar with. To him, it's a building in a faraway place, and he's looking for a quiet corner of the world.

Instead, he finds her there, and he's already raising a hand as she speaks.]

I'm sorry, miss. I didn't mean to intrude.

[He nods to the bench beside her.]

[Miss, there's something she hasn't heard in forever. She's used to princess, or more recently chica and senorita. Miss is definitely something she'd been used to when she lived in Bethel, but that feels like years ago instead of just a month. It's a little weird, but Kate keeps the smile on her face as she slides over on the pew.]

No, of course not. Are you, uh... you're from the ships too, aren't you?
