[ A quick response, almost instinctual. ]

There doesn't seem to be anyone here who doesn't have someone they miss.

[rebella]

( She looks up, shaking her head and letting her lips curl up into a small smile. She misses her mother still, but it's not something she feels anyone needs to say sorry for. )

It's all right. Anyway, I feel that pretty normal. Like being homesick for someplace familiar when you're away, you can miss people, too. ... Though not everyone needs to. Is there anyone you miss?

[ She hasn't felt like that in a while-- "I miss my parents." It'd make sense to whoever she said it to, but she doesn't feel attached to those words. It's been centuries, after all. ]

A good friend of mine.

[rebella]

( Her answer makes good sense to Ella. There are others she misses, too, people who are good friends, even separated by distance. Without even her Fairy Book to give her that insight into the people she cares about, or to bolster her mood in general, she feels a bit isolated at times. Crowded on a ship most the time or not, Ella still fights off a certain kind of loneliness. )

It'd be nice having people like that here too, even if this whole thing is confusing. I wouldn't have believed any of this possible before I was dragged into this whole thing.

[ Space is vast, and that only makes the distance more obvious. ]

Nor would I. I'd have wondered if it was a dream if I hadn't woken up so many times.

Sometimes I'm still convinced I'm dreaming. For all it's unlike anything I remember dreaming about before...

( Beautiful in ways. Also completely beyond part of her. The augments and the rest make her functional and knowledgeable, but she can recognize a duality in what feels familiar, and what is still strange. )

The mind is capable of a great deal of imagination, after all.

[rebella]

And imagination can create some truly beautiful realities.

( Like the fine pottery made by the elves, true moving, living works of art. )

[ Or some truly awful ones, she stops herself from saying. ]

That is true. It was someone's imagination that made this possible, too.

[rebella]

I don't think I'm all that fond of this one, myself. The idea of being watched all the time for entertainment is kind of... ( weird? invasive? abrasive? all of the above? ) ... strange?

[amarant]

To say the least.

[ There's a reason she doesn't often leave her room here, she doesn't even like being watched by people around her. ]

It's unsettling.

I wonder if there's any way to not be seen.

( Huh. She resents being told to perform, so she honestly isn't, but the idea as a whole does kind of incite her "let's work against this" stubborn streak. Doing as she's told is not her idea of fun. )

[amarant]

I don't know of any way to tell, unfortunately,

[rebella]

No... I suppose there's no way for any of us to really tell. There's what we hear, but the difference between that and what's real is difficult to say.

[amarant]

I suppose we only have ourselves to trust.

[ Individual. She sure as hell doesn't trust the people here. ]

[rebella]

That can be a little lonely... but time to time, it's true enough. We can rely on ourselves to do what we can, and maybe even more than we realize.

[amarant]

An individual can be capable of a great deal, it's true.

[rebella]

Both of good and harm... even if they don't mean to.

[amarant]

That's very true.

[ They certainly got deep quickly. ]

( Not as planned... Time to lighten the mood. Hopefully? )

On the other hand, I believe that the mischief these birds get into is entirely on purpose, and very harmful for things like the state of my clothing. I've had at least three try to nip right on through. They're more tenacious than goats, and I didn't believe that could be possible!

[amarant]

[ She laughs a bit at that, quiet. ]

I didn't realize that they were anything more than strange-looking. They didn't hurt you, did they?

[rebella]

No, no, I've been faster then they are. One caught me by surprise, but I managed to slip away without earning a tear in my backside. Which is good when I don't have a mending kit anywhere on me.

[amarant]

If you do get caught, I'll lend you some assistance.

Of course...it's better to be careful.

[rebella]

( She grins. )
