[For people who been around for a few months, you may recognize the familiar setting of the Blue Fish clinic and another medical PSA. Allen stands behind his usual table, looking like he's in decent spirits. Timcanpy is in the background, resting on a bowl of cotton balls while wearing a miniature cowboy hat]

Hello Everyone. For those who don't know me, I'm Allen Walker of the SS Blue Fish where I serve as one of the medics along with Dr. Beverly Crusher.

Just a few announcements today. First of all, the bimonthly Blood Drive will be happening this weekend! People who donate their blood will be paid either in money or food. Any one who does donate will also get cookies and juice. If you are interested in donating, please fill out the form attached. [this one!] If you wish to volunteer your time to help, please contact me. Any vampire volunteers will not be allowed near the donated blood.

[Right, moving on then]

Second, it's been reported that since the attack, many ships have been reporting technical issues. While our engineers are working hard to sort out these issues, please be careful of any electrical charges or motion sickness caused by microgravity - er, the floating around. [and he makes a spinning gesture with his hands as if that explains it] And no, we still haven't heard from Atroma. Unsurprisingly.

Third, some of you may also be experiencing problems with your augment, such as headaches or mood swings. We're...working on it. Until it's sorted out, we can offer aspirin for the headaches but...I recommend keeping an eye on your crew in case they try to do anything like enter a spontaneous group marriage. [He frowns a little and looks straight at the camera] Please stop them. They may be cross at you at first, but they'll thank you later.

[And then he goes back to his friendly smile][he puts on his reading glasses, picks up his communicator and starts scrolling through it...and scrolling. And scrolling] ...a high number of reports of fights breaking out in saloons- [He pauses are one report] - good Lord.

[How did that even-? He frowns at it a bit, before putting down the communicator, clearing his throat, and addressing the fleet again ]

Right- anyway. If you don't want to get caught in a fight, I'd recommend simply not going to a saloon at this rate. If you do want to get caught in a fight, please make sure you know how to fight beforehand. Several fleet members offer self-defense training if you don't. And if you get injured, please contact your lab support- [he amends] Unless you are your lab support, then contact another one. Trust me when I say, giving yourself stitches is a terrible idea.

[Not that he's going to say anything else about that]

I've got the feeling that everyone should've known that, but who knows--maybe everyone but me does.

It's alright. It's not extremely common knowledge. The vampire population here is actually much quieter than the last place I was.

[limitstorm]

... you had vampires at home?

Huh?

Oh, no! We didn't- I mean, once I was forced by a village to investigate a vampire attacking their town, but that all turned out to be a misunderstanding.

[What.]

I was in another place between here and my homeworld- Paradisa. That place had a lot of vampires.

[limitstorm]

Oh--right. Other... places. [ ... damn it, every time he remembers that that's a thing, he can't help but be reminded of kaneis. that wound still hurts, but he clears his throat and forces it away. ]

How come? Big bat population? [ weak attempt at humor, but an attempt was made. ]

[That...gets a bit of a laugh out of him before he clears his throat. It was so bad it was good okay]

Ah- no. I don't think so. The castle just seemed to like bringing vampires and demons in.

[limitstorm]

Wait--the castle brought people in? Weren't there people in charge, like the Atroma here?

If there were, we never heard anything from them. From what we understood, the castle was some sort of...sentient being that fed on the emotions of people it brought to live there.

[limitstorm]

Wait--fed on emotions? Did it take them away for a while?

[save_the_souls]

Sometimes...yes.

Most of the time it would cause things to happen that would cause people to have strong emotions...and I suppose feed a little off of those.

[limitstorm]

That's... [ horrible. it makes him a little sick to the stomach, honestly. heartless and nobodies are one thing, but constantly playing with people's emotions? ] sick.

[ shakes his head firmly. ] I guess this isn't much better off, though.

[save_the_souls]

It's...

[There's a pause on his end. Yeah, sick was one way to describe it. And he had no love for Atroma, he knew that, but...]

...What Atroma is doing is wrong. There's no doubt about that.

But...the things they do truly don't compare to what would happen in Paradisa. It's...much safer here, for one thing.

[limitstorm]

Much safer here? With rogue ships attacking us?

[ it's not dismissive, but dreading. it was worse? ]

Yes, even with the rogue ships, it's safer. Injuries from fights were practically commonplace, and...a lot of people died too. All too often by the hand of other residents.

[a slight pause as he swallows]

In fact, one of the castle's favourite games was making a peaceful person lose control. At any time, there was a risk that you have someone you trusted trying to kill you.

[limitstorm]

[ riku gives a lengthy pause of his own and there's something a little distant in his eyes before he sharply shakes it, and his voice is just as razor-like. ]

That's not happening here.

[save_the_souls]

[The objection surprises him a little. Riku's not normally one for definite statements like that. It was more his style, it seemed like. In fact, in comparison- his own voice is the one that didn't sound as sure. ]

...Yeah. Yeah it won't. [If it's true...it's an idea he could get behind]

[limitstorm]

Say it with me: that's not happening here. You have to believe it, Allen.

That's...not happening here.

[He sounds unsure as he says it, like no, he doesn't quite believe it yet. Too many years living under the roof of a place where it was a constant reality]
