[ the feed flickers on, the camera shaking as the user clearly fumbles with the device. he's not the most graceful of creatures, isaac lahey. when it does finally center on his face, he looks a little bewildered. ]

Okay, so I've had weird dreams before but --

[ he looks around, walking around the hospital deck as though pacing the room might actually get him somewhere. ] I mean, am I dead? Is this what that great white light looks like? Because if it is, it's pretty disappointing.

[ no, really, he's had a lot of weird experiences with dreams, new places, supernatural things, and this? looks nothing like that at all. ]

I thought it would look at least a little more like Star Trek or... I don't know, more clouds? A lake, maybe. Something more scenic. [ ... priorities. ] Mexican food would be nice.

The alternative would be starving. I'd rather live on crap than die waiting for something better.

I mean, I don't know. Making yourself get used to bad food isn't exactly a good thing. That means the actually good food would start to taste bad when you did have it.

[ maybe. he's still traumatized over having bad food, so sorry. ] But I guess I'll eat it.

Mm... I'd disagree with that, actually. I used to eat pretty mediocre meals for almost two years straight, but one day I had the most amazing stew cooked for me... it was the best thing I'd ever tasted.

[Just thinking of that stew Asuna had cooked is almost enough to make him drool. So good...]

[ it sounds gross, he doesn't like much of anything without substance. ] But if it was good, I guess it was worth it. I mean I'd like to have a burger and fries but I don't think that's gonna happen here.

[ but whatever makes this guy happy. ] Maybe you'll get your stew again. There has to be something better to eat here.

Well... that's pretty unlikely. Neither the key ingredient nor the chef are here right now.

MISERABLE THOUGHTS ASIDE-]

If you get a ship with a cook, you'll be in good hands, though. The food itself isn't anything special, but I've seen people do miracles with the flavouring.

Oh, so there are actual cooks? That's amazing. I wonder if I'll have one on my ship, since we get moved, right?

[ bad enough he was placed on one ship, but. ]

I think anything will be better than food gel.

Keep your fingers for a bigger ship, then. A lot of them are too small to have room for specialists like that. Though there are plenty of people who have different augments but can still cook well...

So I want a bigger ship to have better food. Got it. I guess I don't have much of a choice for the ship, though. [ because god knows it can't be easy. of course not. ]

I've heard you can transfer, but I have no idea what the process of doing that is.

I don't want to move around on spaceships anymore than I already am. Being on a spaceship in general is very weird.

Are we sure we're in space? And it's not just some weird CG and drugs or something?

[Well, he's already done his standard VR tests, so it's certainly not that. Presumably. (Hopefully.)

I've never heard of a drug that could do anything like this. And the scope of this place is way too huge to just be computer generated... I'd say both is pretty unlikely.

I haven't either, but that doesn't mean there isn't one out there. In the universe.

Oh, no, there is. There's several space-genre VRMMOs. I played a couple, a few months back. But even VRMMO can't duplicate the graphics of real life, at least not in my era.

[Maybe this guy comes from some super-advanced world where holodecks are the norm.]
