Who: Koushirou and you~

[There has been way too much togetherness lately and Koushirou has been doing his best to stay apart from said togetherness, spending most of his time lurking in some corner observing things around him or, more often, reading the available books. That's where he is now, in one of the reading nooks of the living areas, while he sends a message out to the network.]

I presume no one has received any indication of how long we will be here before returning to our ships, if we do so at all?

[He's kind of regretting wanting to get back onto the Marsiva in the first place, even if that had nothing to do with what actually happened. This is so not fun, and it isn't even a good opportunity to investigate anything. He's checked out all the available areas so many times by now, and he's actually getting really bored on top of being tired of being around so many people.]

I was also curious as to whether there is anyone who has remained awake after the countdown has finished.

[Someone here has been lucky enough not to be involved in any of the calibrations ~~yet~~, and so the whole everyone falling asleep thing is the most interesting puzzle he can try to work on right now.]

Koushirou is not exactly the best at keeping aware of his surroundings, especially when focused on something, so he totally doesn't notice Haruka until she speaks. One the other hand, he's fortunately somewhat hard to scare, so at least he doesn't shriek or anything.

Not loudly, anyway.

However, he does flail a bit and whirl around wide-eyed to just stare at her, before eventually echoing her words.]

That's true, but I don't believe that would be very appreciated.

At the very least it's unnatural, and there must be a reason why it occurs.

If anyone has been able to avoid sleeping then they may be able to figure out that reason.

[We can't have sense here and it's okay, Koushirou is prone to thinking and then forgetting to discuss anyway so it all works out. And hm, the alarm clock at first seems kind of silly, but on second thought...]

I wonder if it's possible to awaken someone during the night at all.

Perhaps an alarm can be fashioned somehow from the thing we do have access to.

Using their equipment against them, huh? [ If it's possible to sound doubtful and intrigued simultaneously, Haruka just did. ] Nice trick if you can manage it.

[He nods once.]

I don't think it'd be a problem to build one, as there should be enough parts in the electronic equipment available to us. However, whether the alarm would remain in one piece through the night is in question.

[He's taken apart a few things already--such as the cameras--and they always ended up intact the next day.]

[ Not having the experience with this technology that Koushirou does, Haruka finds it far likelier that the alarm just wouldn't have an effect. This is hardly a normal sleep in the first place.

But that doesn't really seem worth pointing out - no skin off her nose if he tries and fails - so she just pats the chair Koushirou's sitting in. ] I'll leave that to you, then.

especially in circumstances more suspicious than the average suspicious circumstance

We have been given no indication. I imagine it is less a matter of time. We will simply be here until the Atroma have finished whatever purpose they have for us here. As for the countdown, I have not. All I may say is that it does not seem to be the same somnolence magic employed by thaumaturges.

You're probably correct. I wonder what that purpose is; were we just not interesting enough spread out on different ships?

In regards to the issue of everyone falling asleep it may not be magic at all, although that is what I considered first. We all have the implants in common.

Likely, they desire to do something to affect us all, but that something has a range too small to affect the ships. I thought perhaps they intended to have us tempered, but it seems rather peaceful for that. It is my thinking also. It bodes ill for what other effects these augments may have at their disposal.

Range of effect is a good point to consider. That would indeed explain why we were all gathered together.

Yes. Considering what we do know about the augments, they could likely be programmed for many different effects.

[Including malicious ones, or simply unwanted but mostly benign ones like making everyone fall asleep.]

To pull out something so intimately connected to one's brain seems an exceptionally poor idea.

It probably isn't wise, but that doesn't mean it hasn't been attempted.
