Has... anyone else been having weird dreams lately, or just me?

Also, what do people do for fun around here? This is the longest I've ever been cooped up in one place. At least if there was something to do...

Anyway, I'm sick of meditating. If anyone wants to come chat or keep me company, I'm sitting in the living area. Does anyone know if they have a dejarik board around here? I'm not much good at it, but it's a good time waster at least.

No-- I get that. And we do take a side, often, especially when there's a miscarriage of justice. But there's a difference between taking a side and purposefully turning another otherwise relatively peaceful planet into a war zone. We have to walk that line.

The Jedi Council, generally. Our governing body, comprised usually of anywhere between twelve and twenty of our most accomplished members. They vote on all such matters-- though any Jedi not on the council can make a case if they want to sway the Council's opinion one way or another.

That's a lot of power for just a few people.

Exactly. That's exactly why we have to remain as unbiased as possible. That's why Jedi training starts young, why we aren't allowed Earthly attachments, or positions of power. Why we spend so much time meditating and communing with the Force. Our judgement and foresight has to be clearer than that of a normal person's.

The more I think about it, the more I feel like the one about attachment is misguided, too. Attachment in and of itself can't possibly be a bad thing. The Jedi of the Old Republic had families, and they weren't all evil Sith Lords.

Well, it's impossible to be truly disconnected when you're in tune with the Force. You can feel the life flowing through everything... the joy, the anger, the pain... you're never truly alone.

But the idea is that if we get too attached to something, to a person or thing or place, that it will cloud our judgement. That we won't be able to let go, or make the right decision, when a critical moment comes. One life is not more important than any other... or so it goes.

If it makes you feel any better, neither is my old master. And he's the strongest Jedi that ever lived in thousands of years.

That's right. He came to the Temple really late. The same year I did, actually. Only I was three, and he was nine. They usually don't take children that old, but they made a special exception for him.

So he didn't grow up with our ways, and he has weird hang ups about feelings. It's kind of cute.
