At least there's no elevator music...

[At least two weeks have passed since the Drift Fleet passengers woke up on this strange wing of the Marsiva... Some new passengers have even joined the group instead of being Shuffled off to a fleet ship! The large monitor in the central room remains quiet for now, so how is everyone holding up?

Have you been relaxing? Enjoying the Earth media? If you can even remember them, how have Calibrations been treating you? Has anyone started getting a little stir-crazy?

Don't worry... This ship has no shortage of mysteries, and you'll be seeing a few more soon.]

Will do. [ Haruka remembers she's running on a machine and checks the display. What does any of this even mean, anyway. It's not emitting smoke, so everything's got to be fine, right? ]

... You have a lot of stamina, huh?

[Nightingale's role in the party is basically stationary artillery. She does huge damage, but she isn't as mobile as other classes. She's watching Haruka's nonchalant running with some low-key awe, really, because moving that fast and keeping it up is something she could never do.]

[ Eh, she's got no point of comparison but herself, so whatever. Haruka shrugs in mid-step and looks at the wall in front of her almost dreamily, picturing scenery far preferable to what's actually there. ] I've just always run. That's all.

It must be useful to be able to run like that, huh.

[She's sort of falling back on old habits, and looking at every talent as to how it can be used in battle...]

[ ....Now that they're talking about it, the novelty is wearing off, and Haruka's realizing just how unsatisfying it is to use a treadmill, after all. She knows better than to just step off after a run like that, so she presses a few buttons to get the treadmill to gradually slow down. ] Well, I'm never late.

What's your specialty? [ Everybody has something they're proud of, right? Haruka has a few guesses from prior interactions, but far be it from her to put words in Nightingale's mouth. ]

Offense. Elemental magic, status effects, and coming up with strategies.

You after a demonstration?

Maybe eventually. [ Bringing too many people when she and Michiru try and take out Atroma sounds like a liability waiting to happen. ~~Yes, this makes no sense if you stand back and consider it, but it is her way.~~ ]

Ah. Well, I came here to practice, so you might have to deal with getting it now anyway.

[She makes a motion like she's grabbing something, then pauses, looking disgruntled. She's so mad her staff is gone.]

Then I'll stick around. [ Who'd leave after a lead-in like that?

The treadmill slows to a stop. Haruka stretches, getting ready to hop off. ] Where should I stand?

[ She is big on people not being In The Way. ]

Anywhere you like. You could even stand in the magic, if you want, it won't hurt you unless I target you.

[That said, she's heading over to stand in front of one of the big punching bags, and taking a fairly relaxed stance.]

How thoughtful. [ Haruka will occupy real estate on the wall next to the treadmill then. Arms crossed, legs crossed. She's ready to go.

Cue interested watching expression! ]

[Well, you're in luck.

First, she starts out with raising an arm up, and a pillar of fire erupts out of the ground, consuming the sandbag, and then exploding. Then, she flicks a hand forward, and lightning near-instantly follows, with several rapid hits. Then a sweeping motion to the side as the last bolt fades, causing a hail of ice to impact the bag from all sides, before being consumed in a smaller fiery explosion again.

When the explosions end, the sandbag is just utterly gone.]

[ Diversify, why don't you. Haruka's eyebrows start out raised, but the more Nightingale completely obliterates her target, the more relaxed and amused she gets. They made this person a cook. That's pretty funny.

And entertaining enough to merit some applause. ] I'm surprised you need to practice.

... To the contrary, I have to practice. There's no monsters to level up on, so the only way for me to get stronger is by trying to find differences in the rules of my own world and the rules of this one, and learn how to exploit those.

I'm developing one of those right now.

[ Point taken. ] Have you learned anything else about the rules of this world?

A bit. More like... a starting point, nothing I can use just yet.

Diligent student. [ She's figured out who you remind her of. All you need now is a little computer visor thing. ]

... I was, but how did you know? And what brought that on?

[She has a Scan spell, she doesn't even need that.]

[ You're being methodical, is all. Testing your limits as well as your surroundings.

That, and you wrote a beginners' guide to the fleet. Extra credit points. ] I'm looking forward to seeing the fruits of your studies.

I think my next step is comparing notes with other magic-users and seeing if we can learn each others' systems.

Is there a reason you're trying to make this sound like school? I dropped out for a reason, I don't want to go back.

[ A grin. She detaches herself from the wall. ] I didn't know I was speaking to a rebel.

[ This is the point where she could confess that she, too, has chosen to abandon formal schooling.

....Nah. ]

... A rebel? What?

[There's a lot of words she could use to describe herself, but that wasn't on the list.]

[ Do you prefer "dropout" or "delinquent", then? Things Haruka could ask that would clarify her statement.

She asks none of them. ] Keep up the good work. I'll be curious to see what comes of it.

[ And she won't even call you an honors student again! ]
